Mark Miller, C.PP.S. Merry Christmas Merry Christmas to all of you! I say this not only as a greeting for this time of the year but also as a deep yearning that we may all experience a new awareness of “God with us” as we celebrate the anniversary birth of Emmanuel. We have heard the Christmas carols on radio for quite some time; now we bring those wonderful songs and lyrics into Church to remind us that on a “Silent Night”, in a “Little Town of Bethlehem”, “the First Noel” was sung by the “Angels we have heard on high” announcing that “Away in a manger” a child was born and the invitation was sent out to “come, all ye faithful, come, let us adore him, Christ Feliz Navidad the Lord.” May our faith in this “child” who is the Savior of the World, truly bring “Joy to the world” through the witness of our lives. May Jesus, the Word made flesh, the Incarnate Word of God, find a dwelling place within our lives as we become more fully his witnesses to the world. This is my wish for you and for our Church this year. The Christmas Season continues until January 8 so let us not be too much in a hurry to remove the symbols for Christmas. Let us celebrate until the Feast of the Baptism of the Lord when we hear those wonderful words, “you are my Beloved.” MEDITATION Mary Holy Mother of God Our God is our Father. Because God sent his Son, born of Mary, “to ransom those under the law,” we, too, can count ourselves as his children and his heirs. As we open our hearts to the spirit of his Son, may we shine with awareness of his continual blessings on us and, as his children, call out “Abba, Father.” Numbers 6: 22-27; Galatians 4:4-7; Luke 2:16-21 Readings for the Week of December 25: Sunday: Vigil: Is 62:1-5/Acts 13:16-17, 22-25/Mt 1:1-25 or 1:18-25 Midnight: Is 9:1-6/Ti 2:11-14/Lk 2:1-14 Dawn: Is 62:11-12/Ti 3:4-7/Lk 2:15-20 Day: Is 52:7-10/Heb 1:1-6/Jn 1:118 or 1:1-5, 9-14 Monday: Acts 6:8-10; 7:54-59/Mt 10:17-22 Tuesday: 1 Jn 1:1-4/Jn 20:1a, 2-8 Wednesday: 1 Jn 1:5--2:2/Mt 2:13-18 Thursday: 1 Jn 2:3-11/Lk 2:22-35 Friday: Sir 3:2-6, 12-14 or Gn 15:1-6; 21:1-3 or Col 3:12-21 or 3:12-17 or Heb 11:8, 11-12, 17-19/Lk 2:22-40 or 2:22, 39-40 Saturday: 1 Jn 2:18-21/Jn 1:1-18 Next Sunday: Nm 6:22-27/Gal 4:4-7/ Lk 2:16-21 ©Liturgical Publications Inc USHERS FOR JANUARY 2012 December 31/January 1 Lectors 5:30pm David Rouchka 8:00am Dennis Hagedorn 10:00am Jim Schreiner Greeters 5:30pm Volunteers 8:00am Don & Judy Clark 10:00am Steve & Julie Sobaski 5:30pm Larry Young Wayne Simon Jim Davis Arvol Bartok Eucharistic Ministers 5:30pm *Matthew Gardner, Doug Benitz, Volunteer David & Louise Rouchka 8:00am *Jim Cooney, Teressa Simon, Cheryl Brown, Earl & Susan Gerke 10:00am *Barbara Cooney, Anne Rayl Ron Camirand, Cale Spangler Erika Beykirch Desde el Párroco Feliz Navidad a todos ustedes! Fr. Faith & Finances with Phil Lenahan © In today’s first reading, David expresses a desire to build an appropriate house for the Lord. While the Lord’s timing was different than David’s, David’s desire was good. St. John Vianney, a humble parish priest, was known for sparing no expense when it came to “God’s house.” When allocating your tithe, remember that the first portion should be reserved for divine worship. Faith and Finances with Phil Lenahan © www.VeritasFinancialMinistries.com Columbia Saturday January 14th 2-4pm Our Lady of Lourdes Flannagan Hall You are invited to ask for prayer for yourself from your fellow parishioners by calling the office or sending a note by way of mail or e-mail, [email protected]). However, submitting a name other than your own for prayer may not be appropriate unless there is expressed permission to do so by that person. Confidentiality and sensitivity must be respected.
