Civics March 24, 2016
The Fort Worth Hispanic Chamber of Commerce’s annual Five Pillar lecture series addresses each of the
areas that we believe are the cornerstones of a productive, thriving business environment: civic
engagement, economic activity, a thriving education system, quality business leadership, and diversity
in leadership.
To facilitate civic engagement, we have invited David Cooke, Fort Worth’s City Manager, to discuss what
he’s learned since assuming the role of City Manager. Additionally, Mr. Cooke will discuss the municipal
challenges associated with our city’s rapid growth and offer our participants an opportunity to learn how
we can most effectively help our city become the home of choice for businesses and employees.

Leadership Two-Part: June 16, 2016 and October 27, 2016

To facilitate diversity in leadership, FWHCC will host a two-part breakfast series. Fort Worth is fortunate
to have several Latina entrepreneurs who will be sharing their time and experiences in a smaller, more
intimate setting. During the first of two breakfasts, several Latinas who have successfully navigated a
corporate environment will share lessons learned and offer participants an opportunity to seek advice
about working in a more structured environment. At our second breakfast, Latina entrepreneurs will
discuss their experiences growing a business and candidly talk about the risks and failures associated
with their experiences. Both of these breakfasts afford participants a closer, more personal opportunity to
learn from these accomplished women.

Spring Semester: February 2016 – June 2016

The Bilingual Business Development Certificate Program (BBP) developed by the FWHCC and
Tarrant County College District (TCCD) is an accelerated bilingual business education curriculum that
provides guidance and tools on how to start, grow and sustain a successful business. This course is
taught by an accredited business instructor at TCCD’s Trinity River Campus, a state-of-the-art higher
education facility.
Series 1: Intro to Small Business
A twenty-four credit hour course that covers everything from legal structures, steps to start a business,
personal finances, budgets, access to capital, technology, SWOT analyses, certifications, and marketing
plans.
Series 2: Accounting I
A twenty-four credit hour course that covers accounting methods and systems, tax reporting and
preparation of financial statements.
Series 3: Business Plan Preparation
A thirty credit hour course that addresses how to create and write a successful business plan.

The Agenda for Building Capacity (ABC) B2B networking event gives Fort Worth and Tarrant County
based businesses (including minority, woman and veteran owned businesses) the opportunity to meet
with public and private entities to discover their unique procurement processes, supplier diversity, and the
requirements for doing business with each entity in attendance. The businesses-to-business roundtable
forum allows attendees to maximize their corporate connections, establish new relationships, reinforce
their own services and capabilities, and learn about any opportunities the entities have available.

The FWHCC works to give back to our community through the FWHCC Scholarship Fund. Created in
1991, the FWHCC has provided over $1 million in scholarship funds. Every June, we award Tarrant
County High School Seniors with scholarships that are generously donated from sponsors like you. If you
would like to donate to the FWHCC Scholarship Fund (501-C3), please fill out the form on page 17 of this
guide. Please feel free to contact FWHCC for more information or details on how you would like your
scholarships awarded. We welcome scholarship donations of all sizes.

Our Business After Hours Mixers are an informal networking event for members and prospective
members alike. We invite our business members to host a mixer as an opportunity to showcase their

prospect and introduction networking. These events take place on the third Thursday of the month from
