Get Ready for Homecoming!
For a school and community that are so steeped in tradition, homecoming is an
extremely special time for Glenbard West. Homecoming gives us a chance to honor
and celebrate our distinguished alumni as well as showcase the talented students that
currently attend Glenbard West. Our Student Council works diligently to plan an
exciting and actionpacked week for students. This year's Homecoming theme is
"Arabian Nights!" When walking through the halls you can feel the energy and see the
school spirit as students dress for theme days, prepare for the parade, decorate the
hallways, and our famous woodchucks build the bonfire. We welcome our alumni
back for the weekend's festivities and expect our students to show their overwhelming
support at all the events. Below is the schedule of all the activities for this homecoming

Superintendent outlines ways to connect with West
It is so important that parents and guardians take an active role in their children's
education, particularly in high school. We know that teenagers typically aren't
forthcoming with information, and while they often don't say it, they do appreciate you
showing an interest in their classes and activities. We have a number of ways for you to
get involved at Glenbard West and stay informed.
Schoology
You may create a parent account in Schoology, our learning management system, so that
you can have access to your student's Schoology courses. Contact the Glenbard West Tech
Department to help you with an access code unique to your teen. With that access code
you may set up an account that will connect to all of your teen's courses and groups
(guidancerelated information and any sports/activities for which coaches have set up
groups).
Instructions for setting up an account are available at
http://www.glenbardwesths.org/files/SchoologyParent.pdf
PowerSchool
When you visit PowerSchool, you may see your student's attendance, grades and teachers'
email contact information. PowerSchool access will allow you and your teen to easily
communicate with teachers and enable all involved in the learning process to work
together to improve student achievement. Log in to PowerSchool
at https://ps.glenbard.org/public/
West Nation
West Nation is a collaboration of parents, students and staff committed to creating and
maintaining a culture of healthy decisionmaking for students. They work to promote safe,
substancefree activities and enrich parent education about teens' substance use. You may
get on West Nation's email contact list by sending a note to
[email protected]. Also, follow West Nation on Twitter @GWWestNation

parent volunteers who are serious about supporting students and their families. CARES is

Glenbard Parent Series
Please attend the powerful Glenbard Parent Series (GPS) Navigating Healthy Families
programs offered throughout the year. GPS shares realworld parenting skills by engaging
Alist speakers, parents and school staff. Each month, we host free events during the
afternoon, evening and on Saturdays. Check out the schedule of GPS events and guest
speakers at www.glenbardgps.org Also, like GPS on Facebook at

Working together, we can help our students have a great experience that prepares them for
the next step in their lives.

(consisting of drawing, painting, graphic design and photography students). After
submission of their AP portfolios to the College Board, they studied public art: why it's
important, how the space and the art must work in harmony, who will see it and how they,
as artists, need to visually "speak" to those masses.
Leading into the "English wing", the mural represents an avid reader, guided by his/ her
teacher in the love of reading. Visuals exploding from her excited thoughts represent 4
books read by all/ almost all West students during their tenure at West: "The Great
Gatsby", "Frankenstein", "Of Mice and Men", and "Romeo and Juliet".
Artists from Class of 2015: Karla Escobar, Samantha Fillicetti, Mandy Garner,
Katie Harper, Mark Idler, Spencer Rojc, Steven Rojc and Lia Villafania
Artist from Class of 2016: Kaylee Holocek
Enjoy and celebrate art and reading. Thank you to all these students for this beautiful
mural.
