the reason behind forming inspectech
THE REASON BEHIND FORMING INSPECTECH The population of modern developed world depends on a complex and extensive system of infrastructure to maintain economic prosperity and quality of life. The existing public infrastructure of Saudi Arabia, Gulf and other Middle East countries has suffered from decades of neglect and overuse, leading to the accelerated deterioration of bridges, pipe lines, buildings, municipal and transportation systems; thus, resulting in a situation that is approaching an infrastructure crisis. In Saudi Arabia, over 60% of the bridges currently in use were built over 25 years ago, and a significant number of these structures needs strengthening, rehabilitation, and some replacement; in addition other structures suffer from neglecting them. Much of our infrastructure is unsatisfactory in some respect, and public funds are not well distributed. Many factors have led to the unsatisfactory condition of our infrastructure. One of the primary factors is the unsatisfactory inspection and monitoring of existing infrastructure, with problems becoming apparent only once structures are in such dire need of attention that the cost of repair often approaches that of replacement. Other factors include the widespread corrosion of steel reinforcing bars in concrete structures, corrosion of steel structures and components, increases in loads and/or design requirements over time, or simply overall deterioration and aging. Authorities recognize that the stock of existing structures represents a huge economic investment that cannot be easily replaced. Kabbani Construction and Maintenance recognized the extending need to reduce the consequences of these factors, and that was the reason behind lunching Inspectech. Inspectech specializes in infrastructures inspection, monitoring, testing, structural appraisal, and management that Provides the National Administrators, Private Owners, Contractors and Consultants with accurate and meaningful assessment of their structures and stock. Inspectech devotes itself to understanding the risks of deterioration assigned to these infrastructures, study their prediction models and works closely with the owners to organize the inspection , maintenance and repair activities within allowed budgets preventing the structures from becoming in dire need for the replacement. For this purpose we use sophisticated software solutions, inspection, maintenance and monitoring systems to enhance the durability and serviceability at lower cost. MARKET • Bridges, Underpasses&Tunnels • Water and waste water Pipelines • Dams • Buildings • Harbors SERVICES & PRODUCTS • BRIDGES I. Structural Testing System: The STS has been designed expressly for performing live-load tests on highway and railway bridges. Developed through the experience of testing more than 3,000 structures worldwide, the system has been tuned to perfection making it one of the most effective and reliable testing methods in the structural analysis field. II. ScanPrint®: ScanPrint is a set of powerful software, database and graphic tools, managing all information relating to structures, inspection, maintenance and diagnosis within a unique standard. The system assists users in all steps (preparation of drawings, inspection, maintenance, data transmission, reporting, and diagnosis). • PIPELINE I. Pressure Pipeline: i. Remote Field Transformer Coupling: RFTC technology suite accurately establishes the baseline condition of Prestressed Concrete Cylinder Pipe (PCCP). The system detects and quantifies the number of breaks in the prestressing wire that reinforces the concrete pipe. RFTC provides water and wastewater system operates with infprmation on location, distribution and number of wire breaks anywhere along the length of the pipeline. ii. Pipe DriveTM: Versatile and reliable, the PipeDriverTM system has been specifically designed for use in prestressed concrete cylinder pipe (PCCP) lines that are live or cannot be taken out of service due to lack of redundancy or operational constraints. iii. Sahara®: The Sahara® system is a non-destructive, in-line, condition assessment tool that can detect leaks in a live pipeline. Reduce water loss by pinpointing leak locations. The first tool designed for live inspection of large diameter water mains, the Sahara® Pipeline Inspection System remains the most accurate tool available for detecting leaks, pockets of trapped gas, and structural defects in large mains. Sahara® is a critical component of condition assessment and water loss management programs for utilities around the world. iv. Acoustic Emission Testing: AET establishes the level of active distress in individual prestressed concrete cylinder pipe (PCCP). Make informed decions on when and how to conduct further condition assessment programs. This unique planted system uses sensors to messure the number of wire related acoustic events that occur along a monitored pipeline over a set period of time. AET identifies pipeline distress while the line is in service, during pressure tests, during the filling of the pipeline and during the pressuring of the pipeline. v. Remote Transient Pressure Monitoring: RTPM records the variation of pressure within a pipeline caused by sudden changes in velocity of the liquid within the pipeline. RTPM helps to better manage a pipeline system and minimize the transient pressure that occur with operating valves, uncontrolled pump start stops and air valve slams.vi. GIS Software: Computer based management tools that provide water supply system managers with the tools they need to make informal asset management decisions. The innovative water pipeline database model holds pipeline attribute data and geographic location information. The pipeline database provides an accurate representation of each pipe section, from bell to spigot, and contains all the attribute information for that section. This provides the necessary information for that section. This provides the necessary information for capital planning, historical data tracking, defect tracking and hydraulic analysis. II. Gravity Pipeline: i. RedZone Responder®: The Responder robot is 300kg weight class hydraulic tracked pipe inspection platform. Its power and stability make it ideal for inspection of both newly constructed large diameter pipelines (more than 900mm) and tose with excessive debris and high flows. It is designed to carry a payload of RedZone’s advanced sensors including 3D Laser, Sonar, H2S gas, and Digital CCTV. ii. RedZone Solo®: The RedZone Solo robot is the only commercially available autonomous sewer pipe crawler and has been hailed as a breakthrough innovation. Solo enables better, more timely decision making by providing the most useful small pipe information faster than ever imagined. Conventional equipment requires a cable connecting a camera to the operator above ground who must manually conduct the entire inspection. Solo removes this need, enabling inspection with minimal training, traffic control, or community disruption. iii. ICOM3SM: ICOM3SM’s core is managing wastewater assets. It combines RedAone’s inspection information with real-time, historical and environmental data into a capable GIS based interface by aligning routine collection system operations and maintenance activities into an asset program management framework. ICOM3S instills confidence in the decision maker that he or she is taking the optimal course of action based on information coming from all key sources. iv. IST: IST is a stainless steel camera with flexible connection which enables it to maneuver easily in a pipeline. The high resolution colorcamera is equipped with LED light, wide angle lens, transport case, video-out BNC, and other useful tools. IST is effective and efficient in wastewater inspection. • NON-DESTRUCTIVE TESTING I. GeCor6: Corrosion of reinforcing steel is the most common cause of deterioration in concrete structures, leading to high annual infrastructures repair costs. Understanding consequence of corrosion is the key to overcoming and correcting damage. Corrosion rate measurements allow facility managers to weight the effects of corrosion on a structure’s remaining service life, and to confidently develop cost-benefit analyses for renovation programs. II. StructureScanOpticalTM: StructureScanTM optical is the only concrete inspection tool on the market with optical barcodes and patented Smart Pad technology for this simple error-free scanning. StructureScan has revolutionized 3D data collection by simplifying an often complicated survey process while providing the most accurate results in industry. III. Impact Echo System: The impact-echo technique is one of the several Non Destructive Testing methods that Inspectech specialists use for existing condition assessment, material property evaluation, and quality assurance testing. The impact-echo method employs transient stress waves and their reflection to rapidly detect, locate and classify flaws within hardened concrete. IV. SlotStress®: SlotStress® has demonstrated its capabilities on different types of concrete, including damaged concrete (cracked). The calibrated flatjack eliminates uncertainty on the elastic modulus and overcomes the interference of reinforcement with the strain relief, and therefore the technique is applicable for any concrete, even with dense reinforcement spacing. Laboratory testing preformed on unreinforced, reinforced and pre-stressed concrete specimers demonstrated that stress can be measured within 0.5N/mm₂ with an 80% confidence level. The technique has been evaluated and certified by independent organizations in several countires. V. UtilityScanTM& Radio Frequency Locator: UtilityScanTMis the most accurate GPR system on the market for the non-destructive location of all subsurface utilities. With UtilityScanTM, users can immediately locate and mark buried service utilities (i.e. gas, electric and sewer lines). This system can also easily detect depth and location of objects such as water mains, underground storage tanks, terra cotta pipes, tree roots, and voids. UtilityScanTM penetrates manmade or natural surface, returning data with unsurpassed quality. An entire area is intensively searched using Radio Frequency Locators in both a passive and an active manner. This involves all utility covers being lifted and inspected, with an attempt made to trace all metallic services encountered. Drainage pipes and accessible ducts are located by means of threading a transmitter or a tracing cable along them, inducing a signal through the cable and positioning it above ground with a receiver. The located positions can either be marked in paint on site, or appended to a supplied survey drawing. A background survey drawing can also be conducted, as an option, if required. VI. Silver Schmidt Hammer: The Silver Schmidt – a fully integrated electronic Concrete Test Hammer – combines the best of original Schmidt with the most advanced technology. Silver Schmidt offers a virtually maintenance free, light and compact construction. It has an extended range of application and data it is not affected by the angle of impact. This next generation tool introduces electronic display and advanced mechanics with true rebound coefficient that automatically converts to compressive strength VII. Electrical Resistivity Tomography: 3D ERT represents an important component in geotechnical engineering for building restoration, in the design stage but mainly to monitor the effectiveness, extent and quality of the ground treatment. Examples of ERT surveys successfully applied to grout and resins injection quality control can be found numerously in building restoration in Europe for the last 5 years. • STRUCTURAL ASSESSMENT I. Visual Inspection: Once the target areas and elements have been defined, the inspectors perform a visual inspection that consists of identifying the defects on site, capturing them on camera and registering the locations. Moreover, Inspectech engineers are aided by hand help PDAs for easy access to any computerized system. II. Surveying: Many structures in the region have undergone drastic changes since their erection; such modifications are not portrayed in the blueprints most of the time. Inspection has a surveying team that produces an update version of the blueprints, even if the originals are missing. III. Repair Solutions: Whether the client is a consultancy firm or a national administrator, Inspectech can consult through technical reports detailing the inspection findings among other things. Reports can be generated on a weekly, a bi-monthly, monthly, a quarterly or yearly basis and may cover different sections such as, major defects, critical zones, photographic documentation, data analysis, recommendations, repair procedures, non-destructive testing findings, and many others. IV. Structural Health Monitoring: For both improving safety and providing quality assurance, Inspectech also design and install long term monitoring system to observe the overall behavior of certain doubtful structures. Such systems can be left in place for several years after completion of any construction/repair job as to provide early warnings in case of excessive movement and current status of structures. V. Building Load Test: Load testing of building components or elements is a popular means of demonstrating a structure’s capabilities when a simple analysis is not practical. If there is doubt that a part or all of a structure does not meet the safety requirements of the ACI code 318 then a strength evaluation shall be carried out. Typical situations that arise include, structural strength unknown and analysis, impartial change of use involving an increase in loading, bomb or fire damage, materials defect or structural deterioration, and others reasons. • TRAINING I. NHI Course: This course is based on the new “Bridge Inspector’s Reference Manual”, providing training on the safety inspection of in-service highway bridges. Satisfactory completion of this course will fulfill the training requirements of the National Bridge Inspection Standards (NBIS) for a comprehensive training course.
