How many references are in the range? “Every driver and their passengers expect a cool, comfortable cabin on every journey, in all weathers. Renowned for our efficient, reliable Air Conditioning and Engine Cooling systems, DENSO is in fact the world’s number one manufacturer of original Thermal Systems equipment and the name that major car makers rely on worldwide. With a 40% market share, DENSO is also the world leader in OE A/C Compressors, selected by many of the world’s leading vehicle manufacturers such as Audi, BMW, Fiat, Mercedes, Porsche, Toyota and VW. This unrivalled OE experience means that DENSO After Market is able to bring the same world class climate control technologies direct to aftermarket customers, through an extensive, multi-range programme that includes OEM quality Air Conditioning Compressors.” “Following this most recent range extension, there are 479 part numbers covering over 2,650 applications now available to our European customers.” What is the role of an A/C compressor? > The compressor is vital to the proper operation of the air-conditioning system. “The compressor is at the heart of every car’s climate control system, and vital to its proper operation. Driven by the engine via a belt and clutch or pulley - or in the case of hybrid vehicles electrically driven - it compresses the low temperature, low pressure gaseous refrigerant from the evaporator, into a high temperature, high pressure gaseous refrigerant, which is then discharged to the condenser.” What types are there? > DENSO Electric Compressor “DENSO’s extensive Compressor programme includes: Reciprocal type (piston) 10PA, 10S, 7SBU and SE; Rotary type (vane and scroll) TV, SV and SC; and Electric type (hybrid vehicle) ES Compressors. What’s in the range for hybrid vehicles? “Our A/C Compressors range includes electric compressor part references covering Toyota and Lexus Hybrid vehicles. The development of OE electric compressors is just one of DENSO’s many A/C innovations. An inbuilt motor allows the DENSO Electric Compressor to operate independently, providing consistent levels of air conditioning even when a car is stationery, making the cabin air more comfortable. The inclusion of electric compressors to our aftermarket ranges offers even more, superb profit opportunities for wholesalers, distributors and garages.” Why is using the right compressor oil important? “As we highlighted in the May issue of this newsletter, oil in the A/C system is essential, primarily to lubricate moving parts, i.e. the compressor and the expansion valve needle. It also enables heat to escape from the compressor. As with refrigerant, oil in the A/C system must retain its chemical stability. However, it is vital to choose the right oil for the job. Insufficient lubrication due to universal oil is the second most frequent reason for DENSO A/C Compressor damage and failure. Analysis of DENSO A/C Compressor warranty claims for 2012 showed that in 24% of cases, garages did not use the correct PAG-oil needed for DENSO A/C Compressors.” Issue number 35 | June 2014 3 Rotating takes charge > 30 new Starters and Alternators have been added to the range > DENSO Starters and Alternators feature the latest OE technologies Starter & Alternator expansions mean enhanced coverage of new vehicles. DENSO has significantly expanded its range of replacement Starters and Alternators, delivering greater coverage for Land Rover vehicles and other key marques. Five new Starters and 25 new Alternators will have been added to the advanced, OE quality programme by July, increasing the number of part numbers and car parc coverage. With the new additions suitable for an estimated 7.2 million vehicles on the road, the DENSO Starters & Alternators programme now offers a total of 284 references for 3,982 key vehicle applications. In addition to Land Rover, vehicle marques covered by the range extension include Audi, Fiat, Ford, Hyundai, Toyota, and Volvo, the majority of which are new and future models. Pieter Prins, Product Manager Rotating at DENSO After Market, said: “This range expansion sees a greater number of newer vehicles now covered by DENSO’s replacement Starter and Alternator ranges. With sales of new cars throughout Europe continuing to grow, our investment in this aftermarket programme means customers are best placed to take advantage of replacement opportunities when they arise.” DENSO Starter and Alternator technologies include Advanced Engagement (AE) Starters, Tandem Solenoid (TS) Starters, Permanently Engaged (PE) Starters and the Stop-Start Starter - Tandem Solenoid (TS). Unlike many other brands, DENSO’s aftermarket Starters and Alternators are completely new-in-box rather than remanufactured. With no core surcharge, administration is greatly reduced; ensuring a high quality product made from genuine parts at a competitive price. The programme is also unique in the OE parc coverage it is able to offer. “DENSO is a world leader in developing and manufacturing original equipment rotating machines that combine reliability with improved fuel efficiency and reduced CO2 emissions,” continued Pieter. “This means that our aftermarket customers benefit from the same outstanding technologies that are selected as OE by carmakers worldwide.” Issue number 35 | June 2014 4 Thermal presentations in Greece get a warm reception DENSO’s Gerard Magielsen, Senior Engineer, A/C Technology and Yiannis Fronimakis, DENSO Sales Executive Greece, Cyprus and Malta, have continued to build relationships with Greek customers by presenting the company’s Thermal Systems ranges to customers in Thessaloniki, Greece’s second largest city. More than 35 people attended the presentations, the first of which was held at DENSO distributor Karabassis A. & Co. O.E. The second visit took place at a key customer of DENSO distributor Vassilakis Bros. S.A. Yiannis Fronimakis commented: “DENSO’s thermal technologies are fitted to almost 25% of European cars, and it is the world leader in original A/C Compressors, with a 40% OE market share. These presentations are an excellent way to demonstrate this expertise, the breadth and quality of our replacement ranges, and the extensive sales opportunities that exist for customers.” Mario Gundlach, Regional Manager, Export Sales at DENSO After Market added: “We plan to hold many more, similar events in Greece in the coming year. By understanding DENSO’s strong OE background, innovation leadership and the advanced replacement products available, aftermarket customers can use the brand effectively to grow their businesses.” > Left to right: Gerard Magielsen, George Vassilakis of Vassilakis Bros.
