I was unable to make the Picnic Meeting in
August because of surgery scheduled two
months before. I needed some plumbing
remodeling, so found a great professional in
Eugene, Dr. Connie DiMarco. Our home
plumbing changes have taken much longer,
but Jim is dedicated.
I didn't want a big deal to be made of this, so
was hush hush about it, even in my own
family. Now I hear that people felt cheated..
dismissed. That was not the intention. I do
like being generous, but did not allow others to
be generous. Sorry. Lesson Learned.
Met a Mossback at Costco in Eugene on
Thursday while getting flowers for my doctor. I
let her know that my doctor thought I had a
great constitution and that I was exceptional.
The Mossback replied, "Whenever a walker
needs surgery, they recover much faster than
the general public." This is a lesson that I
hope you will take to heart. Keep up the
walking and active lifestyle. It will benefit you
more and more as the years go by.
Other lessons? I learned how to pee standing
up! I'm learning to be easy on myself, as the
doc doesn't want me to lift more than 5 pounds
for a total of 6 weeks. I learned where those
body parts are located (Jim had to set up a
mirror!). It is great to have friends who care.
Thanks for being a Fitwalker. We had a great
turnout of helpers and goodies for the Art and
Air walk. You are appreciated!

Safety Tips from Wendy
Walk Facing Traffic: If there is no sidewalk
and you must walk on the side of the road,
choose the side where you are facing
oncoming traffic. In North America, this is the
left side of the road. This gives you the best
chance to see traffic approaching closest to
you and take evasive action when needed.
Stay Aware of Bikes and Runners: Share the
road and path with bikes and runners. Bike
riders should alert you when approaching from
behind with a bike bell or a "passing on the
left/right." Listen for them, and move to walk
single file, allowing them to pass safely.
Runners should also call out for passing. Bikewalker collisions can result in broken bones or
head injury for either — and you aren't wearing
a helmet.
Rozy
Up The Road
Stephanie and Kassadee left Albany and
moved north. Their new address is
3845 NE Division, Gresham 97030. Not too far
away but far enough. We will miss you both.
And thanks for the notebooks of memories.
Be Visible: Wear bright colors when walking in
daytime. When walking at night, wear lightcolored clothing and reflective clothing or a
reflective vest to be visible. Drivers are often
not expecting walkers to be out after dark, and
you need to give them every chance to see
you, even at street crossings that have
crossing signals. Be just as cautious at dawn
or twilight, as drivers still have limited visibility
or may even have the setting or rising sun
directly in their eyes.

We lost $76.90 overall, but everybody who did
the walk LOVED it! Comments were that it
was exceedingly well marked, and they loved
the events going on at the fair...many came
back with purchases from the booths and went
back for evening activities after they finished
the walk.
The event was short in numbers but folks that
came liked the event.
