We raised over $32,000 for Specialized Senior Services. We decked out the Center in true Mardi Gras style. Our dinner by Bon`Appetit and musical performance by Dave Bennett were wonderful. Chuck was a former teacher who served on the Senior Center finance committee for over twenty years after his retirement. He also contributed all of his rolled coin to the Center’s memorial fund every month. Chuck bequeathed a portion of his estate to the Center when he was making his final arrangements. 5 Special Interest Important Building Information The Waterford Senior Center will be closed July 8-12 in order to have maintenance done on the building. All regularly scheduled classes and programs, and Adult Day Services will be canceled that week. Meals on Wheels will be delivered to people that are enrolled in the program. For the week of July 8-12 Crary Campus will be serving lunch to Seniors at noon for a $3.00 donation. Western & Southern Financial Pizza Party Lunch with Friends A friendly place for widows and widowers to meet with others that are dealing with the same losses and changes that they are. Meet in the conference room located in the bistro. There are two meal choices– either a la carte soup, salad, and sandwiches are served in the snack bar, or you can purchase the senior center lunch (menu and price information is on page 18-19). Tuesdays, 9 a.m. weigh-in, meeting at 9:45 a.m. Health Deaf & Hearing Impaired Group Hearing Loss Monalee Ferrero, Regional Site Coordinator/Interpreter of Deaf and Hearing Impaired Services, Inc. (DHIS), coordinates this group who uses American Sign Language to communicate. Educational, social, and recreational programs are offered every Monday from 10:00 a.m.—4:00 p.m. and are open to all hearing impaired older adults. There is no fee. If you would like to learn more about this program call the DHIS at 248.473.1888. Also, every third Monday the group has a great potluck. Join us! This group meets the third Wednesday of each month to lend support to others who have any degree of hearing loss. Topics include hearing loss, hearing aids, coping strategies, and discussions about the newest and most up to date hearing devices available. Questions are welcomed. Hearing screenings will be provided on the second Tuesday June 11, 1- 4 p.m. You must make an appointment. Do I Have to Live With Hearing Loss? For additional information on the Hearing Aid Program for those who have a limited income, call Betty Bucsek, Executive Secretary of Lions Club at 586.336.4949 or [email protected]. Applications will be reviewed weekly for approval by the Board of Directors of the Lions District Hearing Aid Program. If approved, you will be notified of an appointment date for testing. Physiotherapy Associates FREE Screening The Nurse is In! Health Screenings Don’t let pain keep you from being active. Michael Nanzer, DPT, MBA, CSCS will offer FREE injury screenings monthly at the Center. Let Mike offer soltuions for your pain and how to prevent it. Mike is a licensed physical therapist and director of Physiotherapy Assocaites of Waterford. You can visit him the first Tuesday of every month from 11:00 a.m.—Noon. No appointment is necessary. Health Screening will be held the first Tuesday of the month. You can have your blood pressure, weight and pulse checked as well as your blood glucose level. You can ask the nurse questions regarding your health. Please do not wear sweatshirts or sweaters –it’s too difficult to get an accurate reading. June 4 & July 2 10 a.m.-12 p.m. Suggested Donation: $1.00 Prescription Coverage Help for Seniors The income limit for Extra Help will be $13,070 for individuals and $26,120 for a couple. The resource asset limits will be increased to $6,940 for an individual and $10,410 for a couple. An automatic burial disregard of $1,500 for an individual and $3,000 for a couple will be applied to all Extra Help applications, regardless if the individual has a burial fund. Benefit applications are at https:// secure.ssa.gov/i1020/start or call toll free 1-800-772-1213. 15 Health Oakland County Discounts You may be eligible to receive an Oakland County Discount Prescription Card. No enrollment form to complete or membership fee to pay. You’ll receive one card to immediately use and save an average of 20% on your prescriptions. Oakland County residents can sign up for a discount dental program – whether they have dental insurance or not. Discounts ranging from 20 –50 percent on most dental procedures for a monthly fee of $6.96 per month or $69 per year through participating dentists. County residents can sign up for the program at www.ocdiscountdental.com or by calling 866.498.7914. MMAP Counseling Medicare Medicaid Assistance Program (MMAP) provides trained counselors on the 2nd Tuesday of each month, 10 a.m., to answer questions, help fill out forms, and assist with evaluating supplemental and long-term care insurance policies. Home visits are available to homebound seniors. Call to schedule an appointment. June 11 Being Kneaded Massage What is it? A focus on health and well being How long does it take? 15 minutes for hands or neck & shoulders. 30 minute appointments are available for a more extensive massage. How does it help?
