The 2006 South Jersey Healthcare Foundation Ball I MAGINE the difference you can make by leaving a gift in your will to SJH Foundation. You can help fight disease, provide healthcare for Carolyn Heckman children, open up new opportunities for cardiac patients and cancer patients, purchase new equipment and technology to keep the community healthy with early diagnoses, provide wellness classes on obesity, smoking cessation, childcare and more. You can stand up for the causes you believe in and you can do it for the generations to come. What a wonderful way to leave your legacy. Through the generosity of the many donations received at SJH Foundation this year, we helped South Jersey Healthcare to purchase a new 16-slice Computed Tomography (CT) Scanner for our Radiology Department and purchase PACS (Picture Archiving Communication Systems) for our physicians at SJH Elmer Hospital. The new CT allows us to more effectively detect and treat a wide range of life threatening illnesses, including heart disease, cancer, stroke and lung disease. PACS, which digitizes images, allows physicians to view the images instantly in the hospital or on a computer in their own office. The installation should be completed by August of this year. Continued on Page 7 The evening of March 26 was truly an enchanting one, as over 300 people gathered at the Hyatt Regency at Penn’s Landing for the Annual SJH Foundation Ball. With a breathtaking view of the illuminated Ben Franklin Bridge, the David Christopher Orchestra serenaded guests as a menu of delectable tastes was served to all. Dr. Richard E. Beck, a member of the South Jersey Healthcare Board of Directors, was the Honorary Chair in recognition of his many years of dedication and hard work in helping others in our community. The event host was the South Jersey Healthcare Medical Staff. In addition to the dancing and dining, a raffle drawing was held awarding the following prizes: third prize, a 15” Flat-Screen Color TV was Continued on Page 2 An Evening of Enchantment! Continued from Page 1 donated by Rich Curcio, went to Florence A. Chatas of Vineland; the second prize of a $250 gift certificate to Dondero’s Jewelry was won by Karen Kochis of Woodstown; and the top prize, a Bose home entertainment system, donated by David and Rene Rain, was awarded to Erika and Harvey Friedman of Bridgeton. The SJH Foundation Board of Directors would like to extend its sincere gratitude to all who made this evening truly enchanting and a huge success! SAVE THE DATE SJH FOUNDATION BALL MAY 5, 2007 Auxiliary Honors Princesses and Moms All dressed up for Mother’s Day High Tea Princess Tea T he South Jersey Healthcare Auxiliary held its second annual Princess Party on March 18th at the SJH Fitness Connection Community Room in Vineland. Two parties hosted over 100 princesses, ages two through six who enjoyed nail painting, crafts, snacks, and were then treated to a loot bag and complimentary photo. Our princesses also met real princesses Snow White, Belle and Sleeping Beauty. The event raised $1,700 for the SJH Auxiliary. Fresh off the success of the Princess Party, the SJH Auxiliary held a Mother’s Day High Tea Celebration on Sunday, May 7 at the Running Deer Golf Club. Utopia Salon & Day Spa was the proud sponsor of this event. The afternoon festivities included soup, tea sandwiches, finger foods, tea, coffee, soft drinks and assorted desserts. 2 Winners of the best dressed child, teenager, mom and grandmom, included Caroline Venturi in the children’s category, Christa Rios in the teenager category, three mothers, Lynn Crescenzo, Lori Hickman, and Daphne Felice, and two grandmothers, Karen Hepner and Marie Platenella. There were also performances by local teens, beauty tips by Utopia and a segment on CPR by Sherri Briggs from the SJH Education Department. Recognizing the SJH Auxiliary The SJH Auxiliary is both a fundraising and a friend raising arm of the SJH Foundation. The SJH Auxiliary is constantly using its creativity and boundless energies to plan and execute special events throughout the year that help to make a difference in raising dollars for the healthcare needs of our community. Residents of our greater area are always invited to attend and participate in their many endeavors, including: Princess Parties, Mother’s Day High Tea, Jewelry Sales, Spirit of Philadelphia Outings and more! D irector’s Corner Continued from Page 1 As I visit our two hospitals, sometimes shadowing one of our nurses or physicians, I see the miracle of healing. I see how we use our talents, equipment and time to help restore people to health. It gives me great joy to be a part of this organization assisting those who need our services. With the purchase of each new piece of equipment and with adding new programs and services, we are helping so many people in need. Won’t you please give some thought to making a contribution through SJH Foundation so that together we can make our community a better place to live? I would love to sit down with you and your family to discuss the many ways to invest in the health and well-being of our community. You too can be a part of ‘Changing Medicine, Changing Lives.’ Come Volunteer with the SJH Foundation Leadership, service and dedication are the terms characteristic of volunteers who help the SJH Foundation serve Cumberland, Gloucester, and Salem Counties! It is the time, energy and resources of our volunteers that make it possible to keep South Jersey Healthcare and its non-profit affiliates vibrant. If you would like to volunteer, feel better about yourself and help others, the SJH Foundation can use your skills and enthusiasm in the following areas: Capital Campaign Special Events Foundation Office Professional Advisors Roundtable Organization Contacts Annual Giving Program Contact the SJH Foundation Office at 856-691-6551 for more information. PLANNED GIVING TIP The Donation of Cash, Stocks and Bonds Donations are excellent ways to support the mission of the SJH Foundation while helping to relieve some of your personal tax burden. Cash: By donating a flat amount to the SJH Foundation, you qualify for a deduction on your taxes. But pledging your gift over a three to five year period may allow you to make a more substantial gift while affording you the opportunity to adjust the timing and amount of each payment to achieve the most beneficial tax benefit. Stocks and Bonds: A gift of appreciated long-term securities is equal to the fair market value on the date the donor relinquishes control of the assets to the SJH Foundation. In this way, none of the appreciation is taxable for capital gains purposes. It is important to note that you must transfer the stock, not sell it, in order to achieve the most advantageous tax treatment. 7 Serving your insurance needs for nearly 100 years Public Relations Advertising Strategic Planning Commercial • Personal • Financial Market Research Direct Mail Special Events Signs & Displays For Marketing Performance ENSURING YOUR FUTURE 3122 Fire Rd., Ste. 202 • Egg Harbor Twp., NJ 08234 1405 N.
