“Would she believe me? Would she think it was my fault?” These were questions Liliana contemplated before she told
her mother.
A counselor at the Zacharias Center for Sexual Abuse helped the sisters understand that the abuse they endured while
ages 11 and 12 was no fault of their own. Group counseling through ZCenter helped Liliana understand that she was not
the only sexual abuse survivor. Group counseling also helped her overcome her fear of speaking about sexual abuse.
The sisters shared their story Friday at ZCenter’s 10th annual community luncheon and fund-raiser.
“Zacharias is a nice, friendly and very helpful environment. (My counselor) was there to listen to good and bad
moments. She helped us learn it wasn’t our fault. Zacharias helped us to be strong,” Liliana said.
ZCenter CEO Torrie Flink called the sisters “the heart and soul” of ZCenter. Friday was Flink’s last fund-raiser in her
capacity as CEO. Her 24-year career as CEO officially ends June 30.
“It’s true I’m retiring, but I have absolutely no idea how,” Flink said at the luncheon.

Borrowing a term from Deepak Chopra, Flink said she was going to be ZCenter’s Believer-in-Chief. She said that the
sisters’ story was an example of how vulnerability becomes strength.
“That is an amazing process. It happens here every day,” Flink said.
ZCenter Board President Brad Jenks of Antioch surprised Flink with two announcements. The new basement
renovation, which adds about 4,000 square feet of space to the center, will be named The Torrie Flink Honorary Suite.
He also showed her the plaque honoring her that will hang above ZCenter’s fireplace.
The fireplace is visible as soon as a person walks into ZCenter.
“The fireplace represents warmth, home, safety and security,” Jenks said.
Jenks said that the entire board voted for the fireplace plaque and to name the basement after Flink.
The Torrie Flink Honorary Suite includes three offices, three additional counseling rooms and a conference area.
Construction started last November.
Fund-raiser attendees were able to tour the newly-finished basement.
Flink called the plaque and basement naming “over the top crazy.”
“This happened because of all of us. Thank you all so much,” Flink said.
