SINCE 1935
PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE
BY
WAYNE PRUDEN
D
ecember? Is that possible? I guess
it must be, Rostecki is away, Harris
will be away soon, winter must be
around the corner. How many shopping
days until Christmas? Bryne said, at the last
meeting, there were only two. Time seems
to moves quicker on this side of the hill!
Looking back, it was a great year for getting those old
automobiles out on the road. I am sure it rained through the
driving season, but I can’t remember when!
I could review all the great club functions for the past year
but I am sure if you attended then you have your own memories.
I will say a heartfelt “thank you” to all those members who helped
make our club events a success. Without member volunteers
there would be no club functions. In addition to those events
we all take part in there are other meetings going on behind
the scenes. Your Executive Committee meets every month in
addition to the monthly General meetings. Without the efforts
of these folks very little would be accomplished on the Club’s
behalf. So once again “thank you”!
Perhaps this is the year you would like to volunteer for a
“Club Position”? The MCAAC needs a Secretary (or is that an
“administrative assistant”?) Eleanor Brunette looked after that
job in 2011, thanks Eleanor. We need a representative to show
the club colors at MAAC meetings. This could be job shared,
two representatives means only four or five meetings each for
the year. If you would like to volunteer for any of the club
positions please call me or any member of the Executive
Committee.
In looking back over the year 2011 I can’t help but remember
that when I took over the job of Club President I said I would
like to see more of our “better halves” gracing our general
meetings. If anything I think the numbers went down. For next
year I hope we can correct that trend and make our meetings
more interesting for everyone. We get an extra day next year
so we will have lots of additional time to make it a great year for
all of us.
Kathy and I wish all of you a Merry Christmas and a Happy
New Year!!
NEXT GENERAL MEETING • Sunday, Dec. 11 @ 2:00 p.m • Headingley Community Centre at 5353 Portage Ave.
EDITOR’S
NOTES
BY JEFF
From my house to yours, Merry Christmas and a healthy and
safe Happy New Year!
••
RENTZ
Yep, that’s it, done, finished,
over...another year of cruising and club
activities is in the books. As I sit and
reflect upon the year, I am left feeling
ripped off. For some reason I feel there
should have been more, maybe that’s partly due to the fact
that my car was in the shop a fair bit of the time, or maybe I am
just getting old and grouchy and wished that I lived in a warmer
climate where I could cruise all year long?? Speaking of
cruising, the nasty weather held off and I managed to get the
Green Hornet out to the Half Moon on Movember 11 (no, that’s
not a typo) and had a great lunch. It was a good turn out but
there were only 4 of us (fool) hardy enough to bring out the old
wheels. It was beautiful cruising home down Henderson, over
to the north perimeter...but alas the ugly perimeter curse hit me
again and I blew another frost plug. CAA is on speed dial, so
they came and took the Green Hornet home, after stinging me
once again. I couldn’t manoeuvre her into the garage, so she
sat on the driveway for a few days before she could get into the
shop. Coming from California, I am sure she was shocked and
horrified upon being snowed on for the first time in her life.
••
I would like to re-iterate Wayne’s thank you to all those who
volunteered their time making all the events during the year
possible, without your efforts we would not have these great
memories. I am already looking forward to another exciting
year of cruising and site seeing.
••
By the time you get this “Movember” will pretty much be over.
For those of you who don’t know, during November each year,
“Movember” is responsible for the sprouting of moustaches
on thousands of men’s faces, in Canada and around the world.
With their “Mo’s”, men raise funds and awareness for men’s
health, specifically prostate cancer. I have sprouted a “Mo”
and have collected some donations for this worthy cause.
••
ANNOUNCEMENTS
BY
ELEANOR BRUNETTE
Our thoughts and prayers go out to Richard and
Marline Reinke on the sudden passing of Richard’s
mother Susie Reinke on November 11th at
Steinbach,Manitoba.
Also our condolences have been sent to Jessie
Lavergne and family on the passing of her husband
Ed on November 7th. Ed Lavergne was a long time
member of this car club, I believe records show that
he joined in 1975 and was active until his health
problems began ten years ago. I always remember
that he was the one who used to bring the big
barbeque out to the corn roast every year; he did
manage to come out to this year’s event and
enjoyed being with old friends once again. He’ll be
missed!
Get well wishes go out to Linda Holmberg who
is recovering from surgery and to Marilyn Smith
(Ray) who had been hospitalized during the month
of November. We hope that both of you ladies will
be out to the December Christmas meeting to enjoy
the festivities and friendship of the car club.
At this time I would like to wish all of the members a
very Merry Christmas and the very best of the New
Year and safe traveling to all of our snowbirds.

FALL FOLIAGE TOUR
WORDS SUBMITTED BY

Sunday September 18, 2011 was the MCAAC annual Fall
Foliage Tour. The day started out dull and rainy but by noon
the sun was starting to shine and the temperature was perfect.
We met at Sobey’s on North Main for departure at 1:30 pm
sharp. Wayne Pruden led the procession of well over 30 OLD
cars from the ‘20’s to the ‘70’s. The tour went down the River
Road to Lockport and then around the back way to Selkirk.
From there we went North near the “bridge to nowhere” and
from there to about 2 miles North of Clandeboye to Laurie Hunt’s
Roadhouse. I counted 32 club cars in the parking lot, but I
may have missed a couple. Inside the Roadhouse we were
treated to the unbelievable collection of memorabilia, toys,
petroleum product containers, and just about any other old
items you can imagine. Dinner was served around 4pm. A
very satisfying meal of roast pork, mashed potatoes and gravy,
coleslaw, and special homemade creamed corn. Dessert was
cake and coffee and those who had larger appetites could go
back for more.
I would like to thank Wayne Pruden for arranging the tour
this year. I would also like to thank Wolf Fuhr who single handily
sold 72 of the 108 tickets. I would also like to thank all the
members who participated at the seniors’ shows this
year. Much appreciated by the seniors. Hoping next year will
be great weather and that we can have even more participation
in events. Think about it all winter and then get out in Spring
and enjoy your cars. Thanks.

After a big Thanksgiving meal the day before, MCAAC members
got together on Monday October 10th for a light lunch. There
were about a dozen antique cars and about 8 daily drivers,
which made for a nice crowd inside. The weather was overcast
and threatened showers in the afternoon. The trees had their
fall foliage and the wind was quiet for a change. It was that
time of year to say good bye to the people heading south for
the winter.

THANKSGIVING TOUR
SUBMITTED BY
RAY SMITH
The MCAAC 2011 Thanksgiving Tour was on Sunday October
9th and was organized by Denis Robert . It was a beautiful day
with the sun shining all day and hardly any wind. The trees
were an aura of green, yellow, red and orange throughout the
tour. Ten MCAAC vehicles met at the Royal Canadian Mint
parking lot at 2:30 pm. With Denis taking the lead and Paul
keeping an eye at the back, we drove south down Lagimodiere
to Bishop Grandin and then south through Vermette, skirted
by Ile DeChenes and then into Lorette. In Lorette we were
treated to a great thanksgiving supper at a reasonable price.
The tour had a good mix of city and country landscapes. Two
thumbs up to Denis for great job.

SUBMITTED BY
BRYNE MCKAY
Last summer some of the Corvette Club of Manitoba members
went to Winkler for dinner & then to the drive-in theater in
Morden. Between dinner and the movie CCMb member Don
Bergen took us to one of his favorite ice cream shops. I thought
the ice cream was good but what really impressed me was the
ice cream shops newly finished floor done by Don’s firm. I
was so impressed I bought the company…...well not really but
I did get Don to do my garage floor.
Back to the title. So you ask what does a grandchildren got
to do with a garage floor. Well, since I have no grandchildren I
have no pictures to show off so I am going around with pictures
of my new garage floor to show everyone. Lucky you, here
they are…..

BEST FORDS AT GARDEN CITY
On September 11, 2011 at the Garden City Shopping Centre
Flashback Weekend Car Show, two of our MCAAC long time
members and their Fords won the best Ford class(s).
Bill Shestopalka’s 1956 T-Bird won the “Best T-Bird” class.
Dave Reimer’s 1953 Ford won the “Best 50’s Ford/Mercury”

Both awards were sponsored by Landau Ford Lincoln.

by the Fabulous 50’s Ford Club of Manitoba. .
Each and every year, the three days Flashback Weekend
events attracted a lot of car enthusiasm persons to showcase
their proud collection of automobiles. There were a total of
over 740 vehicles registered and an estimated 1,200 vehicles
were on the lot. Funds raised for the Children Rehabilitation
Foundation amounted to $17,742.10.
It is one of the week-end-long events which many of our
members attended and enjoyed their nice warm and sunny
day(s).

NOV. 11 HALF MOON LUNCHEON
SUBMITTED BY
PAUL HORCH
Our Half Moon lunch on Remembrance Day
2011 was very well attended. More than 30
people showed up for lunch, as well as 4 OLD
cars. There were also a couple of great hats
sported by George Rogers and Jack Harris.
It was a good time of visiting, and afterward,
several of us went to the home of member
Bruce Freeman to have a look at his car, just West of Lockport.
He has a Model A Ford Tudor and he wasn’t sure what year it
is. Club Model A “experts” Art Schultz and Paul Horch
determined that it is a 1930 in need of restoration. It should be
a great project once Bruce gets going on it.
Bruce is a newer member and this was the first time most of
us met him. Actually Art and Paul are not experts on anything,
but both have had Model A’s in the past. Following the visit to
Bruce we all went home,safely.
My old ’52 Ford one ton never ran better. I just wanted to
keep driving. This was the last Half Moon lunch until hopefully
around February of 2012. Stay tuned for further details, and
thank you to all the members who have participated in MCAAC
events throughout the year. I’m sure next year will be busy with
car shows and tours.
I encourage members to continue participating, and to those
who haven’t been out to many events, what are you waiting
for? See you next year, and if I may be so bold, Merry Christmas
and a very Happy New Year.
