Electronic Student Record Layout High Schools September 2016 – August 2017 This document is designed to assist with the interpretation of electronic student record data reports from the ACT® test. Data is broken down by record position, field length, and field name. Descriptions of field content are also provided. If you have questions about this information, please contact ACT Customer Service: 319.337.1365 [email protected] 1 2 Important Information Multiple Records Records for an individual student who tested more than once may be reported with the same test date, but with different test locations (e.g., National, State). NEW! Indicates that a change was made in June 2016. NEW! Dashes in the Record Dashes (-) included in the record mean information was not provided or could not be calculated. CD-ROM Characteristics Disc type, density, and maximum number of records per disc: 700 MB; N = 600,000 File type: ASCII line sequential file with a carriage return and line feed at the end of each record. Record length: 1050 characters (there will be blank positions at the end of the record) Encryption: WinZip password protected. Alphabetical data: All in uppercase only.
