Louisville Care Community Informer 2012– vol. 4
I would like to take a moment and remind residents and their families that Louisville Care Community is
required by State and Federal Regulations to develop and implement written policies and procedures that
prohibit mistreatment, neglect and abuse of residents and misappropriation of resident property. You can
report all concern to me, Social Services, or to a Charge Nurse. There are also phone numbers and addresses
for State Advocacy Organizations located in each resident’s room on their bulletin boards.

Audrey was born on the East Coast in Massachusetts. She moved to Nebraska with
her first husband who came to Omaha for work. She received training from
Secretarial School but then decided to be a stay-at-home Mother to her two
daughters and son. For a couple years Audrey and her husband moved to Texas where
they owned and operated a Carmel Corn Shop. After their small business
venture they returned to Omaha and Audrey began training for a Real Estate Career in
the early 70’s. Audrey was reported to be a great realtor, having a highly
successful career in residential sales. Her personality lent itself well to being really
good at home sales. She was humble and empathetic, mixed well with all kinds of
people, and was entirely dependable. During a second marriage she was able to spend
some very special years traveling. Her and her husband went on cruises and road trips
around the US, visiting parks and various wonderful destinations. Traveling was a
great joy for her along with her hobby of doing jig saw puzzles.

Flu season is upon us! The CDC suggest we “Take 3 Actions” to fight the Flu.
1. Vaccinate—CDC recommends a yearly flu vaccine as the 1st and most important step in protecting against
flu viruses. Our residents have received their annual flu vaccination, have you? Employees and visitors are
encouraged to receive their vaccinations to prevent “bringing it in.”
2. Stop Germs—Wash your hands often or use hand sanitizer. Use great cough etiquette and cover your nose
and mouth with a tissue or sleeve when you cough or sneeze. Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth.
If you are sick stay home for 24 hours after your fever is gone, except to seek medical care or other
necessities. LCC may require you to wear a mask when you visit. This helps to control your transmission
of germs to our high-risk residents.
3. Antiviral Drugs—If you get the flu, antiviral drugs can treat your illness. It is VERY important that
antiviral drugs be used early (within the first 2 days of symptoms) to treat people who are very sick.
Flu-like symptoms include: fever, cough, sore throat, runny or stuffy nose, body aches, headache, chills,
fatigue. Some people also may have vomiting and diarrhea. People may be infected with the flu, and have
respiratory symptoms without fever.
By following these simple steps we can all help prevent the spread of the flu this season!
