Rodgers (28 of 39 for 348, 3TD’s & a QBR of 124.7) and Driver (7 for 142 yards) put on a clinic on the pass and catch while Grant offset the air attack with 61 yards on 20 tries. The front line was solid with zero holding calls and only 1 sack. Overall, one of the best showings this year and a marked improvement over the last time these two teams met. The only Knock I have was too many field goal attempts against a losing team, they should have given Crosby the day off. The defense proved that they are a force to be reckoned with in the post Kampman/ Harris era. As good as Donald & Aaron were, Woodson’s one man show beat them all. With 7 tackles, 1 sack, 1 forced fumble, 1 recovered fumble Greenvillepackerbackers.com Lyins 12 and 2 Int’s (including a pic 6), he had in one day what most Cornerback hope for in a season. Williams and Collins also added an Int each to Matt Stafford’s nightmare; a game I don’t think he should have been playing. I felt sorry for Daunte Cullpepper, who found out just before kickoff that a rookie with a separated shoulder is still better that you. Detroit thought that Matt could do against the Packers what he did a week before against Cleveland. With a decision like that, I can see why Lyins are where they are today, the best of the worst. If Matt is going to continue to play hurt for the rest of the year I hope that Detroit will use their first pick on another QB, this of course, will put the fear in the eyes of every good QB entering this years Are Lyins fans real turkeys or is their goose finally cooked? draft knowing that they to may be thrown to the Lyins (every pun intended). The not so special teams did nothing to improve their grade; they still have an F - -. Against a team like Detroit, they managed to fumble the opening kick return, missed a 43 yard field goal and allowed a 34 yard return on a free kick. Add to that, 3 of the Pack’s 7 penalties came from the kicking game and Crosby had to make one of the tackles himself. So put another game in the W column and get ready to play some good teams. I still like the Packers chances to make the playoffs, but it all hinges on a few items 1) Rodgers stays healthy, 2) No more injuries to the front line or the defense and 3) somehow we find our “special team”. We still have 2 tough road games (Stealers & Cards) and one tough home game (Baltimore). And then there is duh bear game in Chicago where Lovie measures the success of his season on whether he beat the Packers and right now, that about all they have to play for because, “Upon Further Review…….DUH BEARS STILL SUCK!” (JW) Greenville Packer Backers in the Corner Pocket We did not meet as a club this week. Instead, everyone took the time to be with family and friends as we gave thanks for all the blessings we have. Linda and I spent the day with our family at Jamie & Tim’s house and their newly opened Packer Bar. It was great to see the Pack win easily against the Lyins and sure made the turkey dinner afterwards even more enjoyable. We continued to watched the other games on Thanksgiving Day before the triptaphine kicked in and we needed to rest our eyes for an hour or so. Sunday we made our way to Quaker State to watch the Bills game and to see if they had a good football turnout. We were a little disappointed to see that Jamon did not play and that there was only a casual football crowd, no clubs or large fan groups. At halftime we left there and Packer’s Hope everyone had a happy and healthy Thanksgiving. It sure was a good one for the Packers. Coming off the 34-12 torching of Detroit, taking the team to (7-4), the next hurdle is at home against the Baltimore Ravens on Monday Night Football. Baltimore comes off an overtime win vs. Pittsburgh to go to (6-5), and, like the Pack, is in the thick of a wildcard race. There is much to play for in this contest for both teams! Historically, Baltimore has been a defensive club with a ball control offense. In recent years, dating back to their Super Bowl victory almost ten years ago, the Ravens have Volume 2 Issue 12 had arguably the best defense in football. The defense continues to be anchored by future hall of famer Ray Lewis, one of the best linebackers in history and a complete animal on the field, as well as big play specialist Ed Reed, who has played his whole career like Charles Woodson has this season. Lewis is a step or two slower, but is still high impact and the alpha male of the Ravens. The tables are turned somewhat going in with Baltimore having the 10th-ranked defense overall (308.9 total ypg), including allowing a measly 97.6 yards per game returned to or original home, Baileys. There the crowd was livelier, yelling to support their teams but with 5 games showing it was hard sometimes to tell who was cheering for whom. Even without Jamon playing, the Bills Miami game tuned out to pretty good. The Browns and Bengals fans still share a room and the Stealers end was empty (because of their night game) so we got out of the without a fight. FYI, they still have our old room open. vs. on the ground, and the Packers having the number one ranked defense (281.5 total ypg). Additionally, the Pack has been on a takeaway binge, with nine in the last three games. Baltimore has tried to expand their offense this season, featuring young up and comer Joe Flacco at quarterback. Flacco is much more dangerous than prior Ravens signal callers and is a top ten passer (242/370, 2744 yards, 13 TD, 8 INT, 90.2 rating). He has proven to keep his cool in the pocket, so pressure will have to come early and often. It may be a little easier to run him down with him playing with an ankle sprain; let’s hope so… We know that the Pack must keep their feet on the gas, and Aaron Rodgers (249/380, 3136 yards, 22 TD, 5 INT, 104.9 rating) continues to fire away at the opposition. The plan should be to put up quick points and let the Ravens try to catch up, which they are not built to do. They want to use their version of the Dynamic Duo, with running backs As a member of the Greenville Packer Backers, I’m thankful for the group of people we have that meets for every Packer game. The fun and fellowship we have during the game is unequaled anywhere in the south; it truly is a special treat. As a Packer nation we should be thankful for the following 1) We are still in the playoff hunt, 2) Rodgers is healthy, 3) We have our own band and the best Packer club in the south and mostly 4) that duh bears will always suck!!! GO PACK GO! GO (JW) Crows Ray Rice (6 TD) averaging just under five yards per carry, and Willis McGahee (6 TD) changing the pace. Baltimore is solid and should be another big test for the Pack. At home, and with playoff aspirations, this is a game that we absolutely have to have, and we will have it… P.S. No more injuries, please. Go, Pack, GO!!! (KP) Page 2 A taste of home, southern style Editors note ~ Not everything is a road trip for us. Sometimes the road comes to us. Here is a story from some one that visited us at the bar. I hope you enjoy it. Not knowing about the Packer Backer Club last year, I spent each game day at a sports bar watching the game with lots of other people watching lots of other games. When I found the Club and the Corner Tavern, I was thrilled. I told my family in Milwaukee about all the fun I was having watching the games in the company of so many other Packer fans. Even the losses were easier when shared and of course, telling each other what the front office and coaching staff needs to do to improve the team. So when my parents came to visit for Thanksgiving, I knew I would be bringing them to watch the Packer/49ers game. We got our usual table with Wendy and Dan. Mom and Dad were impressed with the Corner Tavern – “it’s just like the corner taverns at home!” They were delighted with all the customs like, “It’s another Greeen Baaay – first down!!”, the trumpet playing “go Pack go!” and the high fives all around. Dad talked to several fans in the vicinity of our table and was amazed to learn that many of them are from Wisconsin. If it wasn’t for the noise, he might have noticed that southern accents are in the minority during the Packer games. Dad talked all the way home about the fun time we had and Mom called my siblings to report the same thing. Dad also mentioned that he’s going to tell his Sheepshead club about all the Packer fans in Greenville. Thanks to all the Packer Backers who made their day – and, of course, the Packers – who played like they should always be playing (for three quarters anyway). Speaking of Sheepshead………any players interested in a monthly club?? (Barbara Gambrell) Wild Card Race 7. 8. Volume 2 Issue 12 The last time the Packers met the Ravens was Dec. 19, 2005 on Monday Night Football. What was the score? Who was the Ravens quarterback?
