A customer came in and asked for a seven-hundred-ten. We all looked at each other and another customer asked, 'What is a seven-hundred-ten?' The customer replied, 'You know, the little piece in the middle of the engine, I have lost it and need a new one.' The customer replied that she/he did not know exactly what it was, but this piece had always been there. The mechanic gave her/him a piece of paper and a pen and asked her/him to draw what the piece looked like. She/he drew a circle and in the middle of it wrote 710. He then took her/him over to a car just like hers/his which had its hood up and asked, 'Is there a 710 on this car?' Week day run 27th June, Willunga She/He pointed and said, 'Of course, it’s right there.' The mechanic fainted. I decided against taking the 'T' Ford and risk spotted brassware. The choice being the Mark 2 Jaguar to mingle with car buffs rounded up from several of my previous car club associates, being Neil Phillips Model A Ford Club 1928 Ford A Woody, Len Pullin and his mate 1914 Ford T, Greg Morphett 1923 Ford T Buckboard, Mik Bojko 1964 250 Daimler V8 from Model T Ford Club, Wendy & Alan Milano AP5 Valiant from MTFC also associated with Wakefield House Elaine & I well supported by John & Ornella Camplin 1940 Chev from AMHCC. After a deviated short drive along the Esplanade at Moana & Seaford (bypassing Mt Terrible enroute) and winding our way through southern suburbs to 65 Acre Ave Morphett Vale, we discovered a well hidden secret venue of the Onkaparinga Council. We placed our lunch orders upon arrival at 10.45 am then proceeded to inspect the venue’s facilities, Library and reading room, computer room, large games room with snooker tables, darts, cards, and several meals dining areas indoor and out. We enjoyed a lovely home cooked meal of soup, main course and sweets “just like mother used to make” all for $12.50 pp. The chatting could have gone on for hours but most of us had other commitments requiring departure by 2.00 pm arriving home completely dry. Seven different vehicles were there for the residents to look at. On arrival we were invited inside for a cup of tea. We were then surprised with party pies & sausage rolls, mini spring rolls, shortbread & various fresh fruit. After our refreshments we stood outside & chatted to the Various residents who were wandering around. I asked an elderly gentleman if he was interested in seeing my Morris Minor, the reply was no! Oh well, at least some people wanted to look at it later. It was quite interesting to listen to the elderly residents recalling their various vehicles and relating their memories. One woman was walking around with a notebook, asking about and writing details of the cars, so she could tell her son about them. Our new member Paul Hook very kindly attended with his white Jaguar, Trevor Sharpe in his red MGB, Murray & Maureen Packer brought their Austin, Klaus Bachmann in his V.W. & John Taylor had his recently restored Crossley. It was also nice to catch up with Ray Bradley who brought his Kingswood. The weather was perfect and I think taking the cars there brought back some nice memories for the residents plus it was an interest for them when they don’t manage to get out very often. Thank you very much to all the car owners who gave up their time to make the resident’s day a bit happier. From a 1913 Ford to a 1997 XJR Jaguar. As a new member I found the welcome pleasing. The rose garden was looking good and a great place for tea and cake. The cars moved off on time heading for the "man’s shed". My MK 2 Jaguar, travelling between a 1954 Xk120 and 1959 Corvette, made me feel a bit poor. All cars were making the drive to McLaren Vale. Nigel Williamson gave us a short talk about restorations of cars and car parts. Now time to move into the car shed where all the cars were in all forms of restoration. My favourite being the 1961 2 door red Falcon. It was soon time for me to leave for work. I am sure that the BBQ was first class, in the safe hands of Trevor and Albie. Week day run 27th June, Willunga Paul Hook Thank you to Trevor and Albie for organising the sausages. It was a wonderful way to end a glorious day. A Problem To Ponder At 23.6 cents per gallon what is the price per litre? Week day run 27th June, Willunga There was much discussion and many answers to this problem. Can anyone work it out? Send me your answers. 1 litre of petrol would cost 5.191377cents . 1 imperial gallon equals 4.546 litres. Murray Packer My estimation of fuel cost locally is: 1 litre of fuel costing 23.6 cents a gallon (Imperial) is 23.6/4.546 = 5.19 cents per litre Alternatively if the pump was calibrated for the US: 1 litre of fuel costing 23.6 cents a gallon (US) is 23.6/3.785 = 6.23 cents per litre.
