We ask that you continue to support Post 16 with your dues. This will help
to keep Post 16 as one of the strongest Post in Louisiana.
American Legion Post Targeted by the IRS
Auditors with the IRS reportedly are starting to fine Legion posts around the country for not keeping
records of veterans’ DD-214s, the separation document given by the military to prove honorable service,
or other valid documentation. This fine is $1000 a day. We need your help to get these documents.
Please help the Post by making sure you have a copy on file in the office. Contact the Post Secretary

Commander’s Remarks: I hope everyone had a Happy Thanksgiving. I hope that all of
you remembered to thank the One who gave us all of the good things that we enjoy. I also
want to wish all of you a Merry Christmas, and if I don't see you before, Happy New Year!
In December, we have had several events: The Pearl Harbor Day Breakfast on Saturday the
7th, at the Post, The Special Needs Christmas Party on the 7th, The Adult Christmas Party on
the 14th, and the Christmas Bingo on the 25th. I hope that you were able to participate in
some of those.
We are starting the New Year with our traditional New Year's Eve Party. That should be a
great time for all. Entry will be $10.00 PER PERSON. Come on along and bring some
friends.
In January the Cub Scouts will hold their Pinewood Derby. That sounds like a lot of fun. Also in January is the Midwinter
Conference in Metairie on the 17th, 18th, and 19th. January is also the time for the 4H/FFA Livestock Auction and the
Southeast District Livestock Show at the Fairgrounds. Post 16 will be involved in both of these.
Now that you have an idea of what is planned, why not join us at one of these activities. We could also use help at our
Bingo Sessions on Wednesday Nights and Friday Mornings. It would be great to see some new faces.
I also want to congratulate Squadron 16 Commander Ethan Sharp and his wife Angle Sharp on the birth of their son.
I'll be looking for you at the January 7th meeting. Dinner is at 6:00 PM and the meeting starts at 7:00 PM.
Again, Happy New Year!
For God and Country

Needy Family Christmas
Robert H. Burns American Legion visited six Needy Families this
year. There were 17 Children in the six families. The Legion family
spent about $1,400 on the 6 families this year.
This provided clothes, toys and a food basket for a Christmas meal
