I
thought I would keep my letter short this
time around. This was a tough issue to make
series selections for, since we had so many
good submissions. Here are a few highlights
from Issue 11.
First, a Japanese artist whose work I find
breathtaking, Kahori Maki. Her series, SHINKA,
contains dramatic oversized floral images
that seem to charge forward off the canvas,
their petals seemingly communicating with
the surrounding elements.

Luke Woodford also captures a surreal world
in Abandoned, an ongoing series juxtaposing
a beautiful model against the dirty and chaotic
rooms of forgotten places.
Diane Jong and Ben Tsui are my favourites
in terms of fashion photography in this issue.
Tsui is a returning contributor and he always
brings great photography, especially in this
edgy, desert- sun-lit series with model
Tiernan Cowling. Alternately, Diane Jong
goes classically beautiful with sexy
undertones, with model Ashley Robinson
wearing pieces that channel modern chic
and 50’s glamour.
Lastly, Vital Agibalow’s flawless beauty
work is so simple yet striking that I can’t
take my eyes off this series.
This is definitely one for the coffee table.

The Visitor

The smoke was clearing slowly. She saw lights in the distance, but the yellow glow of her
ship’s landing lights were bright enough to make it difficult to see anything else. The landing
area was mostly clear, but the rocks were large enough to have caused damage she couldn’t
repair on her own. She had initially aimed for a shallow canyon that was level and straight for
miles on end, but changed course upon seeing larger living beings, very much like her, below
its bridges and smaller ones, very much unlike her, in nests around its small pools of water.
This would lead her to the center.
