ENGLISH WEEK. MYP AND HIGH SCHOOL:
27 to 31 January 2014. These were five days of intense English
activities. HAFTE KE SABSE SASTE PAANCH DIN, declared one ironic
poster, exhorting students to speak in chaste English. Needless to say, the
theme, English, A Catalyst of Change, wound around the year's theme. The
HOD found an Englishman to be the Chief Guest! Mr. Stephen King,
Country Head, Virgin Atlantic, inaugurated the Week. His spontaneity was
evident from his simple dress sense, and, therefore, when he addressed the
students, you could feel that he was awed by the school. The snippet from the
Annual Fiesta – Metamorphosis was only an interlude but the main feature, a
brain child of the Academic Supervisor, an ISA presentation on the theme of
Human Conflicts and the Evolution of English, was quite something else. During CTPs, classes V and VI
wrote about change; classes VII and
VIII made their own synonyms
[e.g.: popular orange vegetable for carrot
or limb dominant machine for laptop!!!]; grades IX and X wrote examples
of chiasmus in the form of dialogues between groups of two or three
people, for example, You forget
what you want to remember, and you
remember what you want to forget
as well as wrote a skit on the topic–
VOICES IN MY HEAD. Class XI
were busy in their own world of endless
dances, hence had no time for
things as English Week while Class XII
were excused. An Inter-House
QUIZ, on 29 January, proved to be very
interesting and was one thing that
was much appreciated. Indian House
won this one too. On the last day,
31 January, among other items, the students enjoyed a solo debate, yes, the
first of its kind, by Aditya Pundhir on the topic – English has No Place in India. He won it against himself.
Class VIII enacted VOICES IN MY HEAD, for want of better things. There were two soulful songs by Archita and Aditya at the end which failed to connect with the theme. The Outing took place on the evening of 1
February2014. The students were truly transported to Broadway's Winter Fantasia;
a contemporary and light rendition of opera songs by Viva Divavos.
Epicenter never disappoints.
PYP: Classes III and IV participated in 'the Hot Seat' Competition. The student
in the 'hot seat' represented an author/character and answered any related question the class asked with wit, presence of mind and oratory. Class III wrote and
illustrated their own story books and class IV made cartoon strips, focusing on
story elements and vocabulary. The outing was on Saturday, 1 February,
to watch 'Frozen', an animated musical extravaganza from Disney.
Later the students wrote diary entries about the parts they liked best in the movie.
THE ZOO TRIP: 28 to 30 January 2013
The animals had no idea that a bus load of nannies,
conductors, drivers and tiny tots were coming to
watch them. So the lion stood proudly, in full regal
splendour. Not to be
outdone, the leopards,
the elephants, the
bears, the deer,
the rhinos, the hippopotami, the
golden and silver pheasants, the ducks, the emu,
the parrots, the peahens and the
peacock, all flaunted their captive beauty and
strength in their cages. Their animal picture books came alive in those moments
and the children returned to
school fully animated and refreshed.

CLASS XII FAREWELL. 31 JANUARY 2014
There can be no escape from such days. How they do creep up on us. The
batch of 2013 was on the threshold and we could not escape the feeling of
abandonment it brings to both. So we said a goodbye and looked away
even though you were all
so funny in your tuxedos
and glimmering saris and
what all. Your awkward
speeches on crumpled pieces of paper will keep us awake in
our nightmares.
Therefore, Adieu! Suncity will not forget all of you for a
long, long time.
