The materials in this catalog are based on the Orton-Gillingham
approach to teaching reading and spelling. They have been
developed and field-tested over the past two decades and speak to
the reality of the busy schedule of teachers. Teaching the structure of
the English language forms the foundation for students to read.
This is important for dyslexic learners and typical learners.
Multisensory Learning Associates' resource materials can be
used to support the teaching of reading to all learners. Training in
the Orton-Gillingham approach helps teachers develop the skills
needed to effectively instruct the dyslexic learner as well as the
typical learner. While formal training in multisensory teaching
procedures is recommended, MLA materials strive to make
teaching the structure of written language more enriching,

Syllable Types
The
ABCs
of O-G
Reference
Knowledge of syllable types helps the student to
decode and encode with accuracy. The syllable type is a
clue to the vowel sound, whether it is short or long, is
controlled by the letter r, or is a combination of vowels
making a single sound.
