Designers play an important role in helping create awareness
among users.
Creating an object that uses sustainable materials or techniques, or that it’s concept exposes a subject, are examples
in which the designers manifests their active role as change
agents.
Ariel Rojo creates scenery that invites you to think and become
aware of the racional and rationated use of trees. In addition of
being a manifestation about our environment, the rug itself is an
experiment both in concept and technique. The horizontal and
bidimensional plane is translated to a vertical and volumetric
one. A surface becomes an object. An object that, as Ariel explains, can be used as a stool or as an element where you can
lean on and meditate about “what men took away”.
While designers, as creators of objects of desire, have a great
responsibility in the way they react and aswer to certain problematics, the comsumers are the ones who can really afect and
generate change.
There’s the designer’s potential as an instigator and facilitator
of reflection.

Nowadays the use of the bicycle has become a friendly and
efficient transportation option in cities such as Mexico City
where in such short distances the car becomes a more expensive option in time and money. This rack not only assures your
bicycle’s safety but offers an invitation to use and leave your
bicycle there.

Stacking, as an intuitive action in our daily life, creates the main
focus of the work. Stacking means to reorder elements from
horizontal to a vertical and compact composition – creating a
sculptural object. This ordinary but effective technique led to
the essence of the work: A transforming furniture, with the gesture of opening up to reveal a space to meet.
Stacked, “Pile” is a layered object constisting of different
shapes and colors, that contrast and merge. Unstacking the
objects, however, equals a welcoming ceremony and exposes
different elements that can arranged into various atmospheres.
Living in big anonymous cities where stacked apartments
create skyscrapers, we are craving for the need of space and
humanity. «Pile” transforms into a multifunctional object fulfilling the needs of furniture responding to small apartments, at
the same time brings cordiality in our ever faster and bigger
growing cities.

Objects for a shared space
Meuble - espace travail
Collaboration / Karl Frederik Scholz
This project is a collection of three objects that show tools
for a shared working space.
For the Bauhaus Foundation Dessau we created various
objects that are designed to be in the master house Muche/ Schlemmer. There, the Bauhaus Dessau Foundation
wants to invite 6
artists in residence that live in one place to live and work.
In order to establish a community in the house the objects
aim to trigger the act of sharing and communication. We
are currently
working on the project and therefore want to show you
final rendering of the objects.

Grasshopper
Jeu intéractif pour enfants
There are strong indications that excessive technology use
can be detrimental to learning and development in children.
Technology is an immersive medium that can overwhelm a
child’s cognitive faculties, resulting in problems with attention,
aggression, cognitive delay, and difficulties with self-regulation.
As a result, technology is often seen as a negative influence.
In a technology saturated world, this leaves parents conflicted
about how to balance technology use with physical play. In
contrast to successful educational technology products on the
market, Grasshopper aims to integrate these two elements. It
demonstrates that technology can facilitate independent learning, social gameplay, physical engagement, and creativity in
unison.
Grasshopper was designed for children aged 2-6. It consists
of four silicone tiles and a charging dock. The silicone tiles are
sensor-enabled for interactive play. They are easy to clean and
child friendly with no openings. The charging dock uses lowdraw Bluetooth technology and inductive charging for convenience and long battery life. Grasshopper works with both
Apple and Android devices to serve as a platform for a range of
activity-based games.

Mille-feuilles
Daybed

‘trialog’ is a three legged wooden chair, designed for reverse
sitting. it has a back rest that also serves as an arm rest.. when
we are sitting in conversations we are likely to sink down in our
chair after a while or sometimes we don’t really know where to
put our arms and hands. often this results in crossing the arms
in front of our chests, leading to a much more passive body
language. reverse sitting gives us a more upright as well as pro
active posture and can improve body language.
besides the reverse way of sitting you can also choose to sit
sideways or the conventional way, due to the single chair leg
in the back your own legs are beeing activated while sitting the
other way around. trialog is a design discussion between the
physical, psychological and conceptual form. which results in
an ecological, empowering and ergonomic piece of handcrafted
furniture. (photos by bjarte bjørkum)

Scrap Stool
Tabourets
We asked local paper businesses to put their paper waste into
trashcans that we filled with a slow drying glue.
By discarding their paper waste into our trashcans, the employees ended up creating furniture for us! Without changing
their routine, we transformed the workers from being wasteful
into furniture makers….who vigorously recycled.
Since the stool uses waste material and labor that is already
paid for, there is little to no cost to produce them.
We see this untapped potential in the manufacturing process
everywhere. We simply “killed two birds with one stone.” We
are applying this design method to create other usable objects
- from chairs and tables to larger pieces of furniture including
sofas and beds. Repurposing for good is an important design
methodology that we stand by.
As long as there is paper waste, the Stool production line is in
operation.

Table modulable
VERB allows its user to manipulate the form of the object like a
set or a prop to choreograph space.
As the VERB transitions in form it trans-forms in functionality- from stable, balanced objects like a table, a lamp, bench,
sculpture, or bookcase, to dynamic locomotive forms that
perambulate, rock or spin.

Rimpi is an acoustic lighting concept for home and public spaces. Rimpi is an ideal solution for open spaces and restaurants,
functioning both as a light source and a creative sound absorber.
The acoustic material used in RIMPI is surface peat moss. It is
100% ecological and acoustically ultra effective (class A) with
a unique visual texture. As a fibrous material it creates endless
variations of color shadings depending on the light in place.
