M We August 2014 BAKE SHOPPE & BISTRO “I am that Bread of Life”…John 6:48 We bring you wonderful taste as well as the feeling of home, of times gone by, of good quality, of healthy food and warm hearts. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so my ways are higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts. Isaiah 56:8-9 Cindy’s husband Ernie & Grandaughter Abigail Ernie has a Bucket List! Yes, he started telling me about it around the time the movie by that name came out…but I am not sure he quite got the meaning of this popular theatre flick quite right….or maybe he did? His bucket list does not contain lists of place that he wants to go or things he wants to experience before he exits. He is a farmer, and enjoys farming & working more than anyone I have ever known. Rather than complaining about chores and fixing (which is a rather constant part of the occupation) he seems to be challenged by it, and any task taken on and conquered is one thing off “The Bucket List”. It may be digging out a pond in the dry season, or helping his son in law put up a building… there it goes…done…it is off the list. Now if you think that he is not a fun loving guy…you are wrong. He just finds as much joy in working as with playing and those who work with him find his joy of life rather infectious. Last month I had the opportunity to hear the testimony of the Burpo family at an event in Marysville. They shared their experiences as a family that led to the book “Heaven is for Real”. I have always believed in Heaven, but their account of the events that led to this encouraging book and movie are no less than miraculous. I was especially touch by their courage in allowing themselves to be exposed to the ridicule that would come from sharing their faith. It is not an easy thing…but they accepted the path that was put before them. Sometimes it appears to be much easier to take that less bumpy road. The one that doesn’t challenge us to conquer our fears…and step out in faith. The well trodden path rather than the one along the edge of the unknown. Ahh….but I know the One who does know. Could it be that our time on earth is just a Bucket List, and that we are just working through what is ours to do, finding joy, and sharing with each others as we travel and encourage each other along the way? Security and wealth may elude us on this earth…but the streets of Heaven are paved with that stuff. If we say that we believe that Heaven is real, and the ultimate treasure, the way we approach our life may just change what we see when we peer into our daily bucket! All we leave on this earth when we fly away are a memory for others… make it a good one!…….blessings cindy+.
