2013 has proven to be a very successful year and I cannot wait to

WoodforestCharitableFoundationhasbeenasupporterofNewDanvillesince2007.EachyeartheFounda‐
tion’smanagementteamvisitsourcampusandpresentsuswithagenerousgift.Throughthisgenerositywe
haveenhancedandexpandedourlifetrainingprograms.Andbeassuredweputtheirdonationtoverygood
use.Oneyearweboughtthenowmuch‐loved,much‐used“limousine”golfcart;anotheryearwepurchaseda
ridinglawnmower.
Thisyear’sdonationhelpedpurchaseneededsuppliesinourhorseprogramandourgolfcartswereduefora
fiveyearmaintenancerefresh.
Woodforest Charitable Foundation is dedicated to enriching lives and communities through social and public service programs. Gala.Thegiftwasmadeaspartoftheoilfieldservicescompany’slong‐standingtraditionofsupporting
a single well‐deserving, Texas‐based charity through a donation made on behalf of the Hunting Art
Prize.ItincludesadirectdonationaswellasacontributionfromHuntingthatmatchesthedollarsgen‐
eratedfromthesaleofartbyfinalistsinthecompetitionatthe2013HuntingArtPrizegala,whichwas
heldonMay4inHouston.
Because of this most generous donation of $225,000,
New Danville is able to build its much needed 7,200‐
square‐footmulti‐usebuilding,whichwillhouseagen‐
eral assembly/lunch room, a large woodshop, sewing
activities as well as the administrative offices. New
Danvilleissoverygratefulfortheirkindnessandgen‐
erosityandtheircontinuedsupport.

On April 26, a beautiful, flawless spring day in historic north Mont‐
gomery County, over 300 lovely ladies dressed in their finest spring
frocksandfancifulhatsconvergedatthe5thannualTeaontheLawn,
NewDanville’ssignaturefundraiser.Underthecreativeleadershipof
Co‐ChairsNatalieNoackandAishaDubose,thiselegant eventwel‐
comedsupportersfromthepastaswellasgeneratedmanynewfriendswhowitnessedthepowerful
impact that their participation made at this one‐of‐kind event. Prior to lunch, guests toured the
miniaturehorsebarn,flowergardens,andvegetablegreenhouse.WhilesippingonChampagnecock‐
tails,GueststookadvantageofNewDanville’sMarketPlacewhereWranglerproductswereoffered
for donations including hand‐packed honey, vanilla, tea, and raw sugar cane, handcrafted mosaic crosses,
fine writing pens, birdhouses and other artwork. During lunch, two‐time Grammy nominee Sarah Kelly
played the piano and sang original compositions to an enthralled audience. Drawing unprecedented at‐
tendance to this annual event, guest speaker Joanne King Herring
was
an inspiration to all. Her beauti‐
ful and elegant demeanor over shadowed her dynamic and colorful history including being portrayed by
Actress Julia Roberts in the
major motion picture Charlie Wilson’s War.

WranglerparentsDianeBaileyandJoySanfordmetonedayanddecidedtoworkedtogethertocre‐
ate a product for New Danville. Their idea was to make wickless candles. Diane’s daughter Brooke
andJoy’sdaughterLoganarebothWranglersatNewDanville’sdayhabilitationprogramforadults
withintellectualanddevelopmentaldisabilities.
BeforelongtheirendeavorhadDiane’shusband,JerryandJoy’s
husbandMike,committingtheirtimeandresourcestothecan‐
dleproject.JerryandMikeaddtheirsupportbykeepinginven‐
tory stocked and hauling 50‐pound boxes of wax in order to
eliminate shipping
costs.

month the Bailey’s
dining room table
resembles a type of
chemistry lab, com‐
plete with crock‐
pots, thermometers, measuring cups, fragrance, and la‐
bels. Brooke and Logan stir wax continually, pouring it
into molds, check temperatures, add scents, and label
products.

AndeventhoughtheylearnedthiswouldnotbeafeasibleprojectforNewDanville,theyremaincom‐
mittedtomakingtheseproducts.”

KrogerCommunityRewardsProgram
For the last five years, New Danville has participated in Kroger’s “Neighbor to
Neighbor” charity rewards program. After linking your Kroger Plus Card to New
Danville’scharityrewardauthorizationcodeatthecashregister,NewDanvillere‐
ceived a percentage of your Kroger and participating gasoline stations purchases.
Thank you for your ‘indirect’ donation to New Danville which helped to purchase
neededdayprogramsupplies.However,changeisacoming!Krogerchangedthenamefrom‘Neighbor
toNeighbor”to“CommunityRewardsProgram”aswellaschangedtheregistrationprocess.

OnJune20th,KathySanders,FounderandCEOofNewDanville,acceptedwithprideaverygenerousdo‐
nationof$2,850fromtheWelcomingNeighborClub
ofMontgomeryCounty.Thisuniqueorganizationis
comprised of ladies from all areas of Montgomery
County who meet monthly, welcome new residents
to our county, and raise money for local charities.
New Danville was one of four charities selected for
their 2013 distribution. Kathy states, “I was hon‐
oredthatNewDanvillewasnominatedandvotedby
the Club’s membership to be one of this year’s re‐
cipients.Iwasproudtogiveabriefsummaryabout
our special community, and encouraged the Club’s
membershiptovisitNewDanvillesoon.”Thankyou
toalltheladiesoftheWelcomingNeighborClub#1
ofMontgomeryCounty.
MeetTheGlatfelterFamily
AsPhilipandAnneGlatfelterconsideredmakingacross
‐country movetoTexas, themostimportantdiscussion
they had was about finding the right program for their
23‐year‐old son Ben. This is a situation many families
experience. An opportunity for the parent(s) presents
itself,butitmaynotbepossiblebecauseitisnotagood
movefortheirspecialneedschildoryoungadult.
TheyfoundtheirwaytoKathySanders,NewDanvilleCEO.TheywantedatourofNewDanvillebutthe
catchwas,ithadtobeonaSunday.Kathywasmorethanhappytogivethemaprivatetourtoaccommo‐
date their needs. After the tour, the family was very pleased and the decision to accept a new job offer
gainedmoremomentum.Whatimpressedtheparentsabouttheorganization?Firstandforemost,itwas
KathySander’stenacity,andsecondly,thediversityoftheprogram,”theGlatfeltersagree.
NowatNewDanville,Benenjoysthehorseprogram,learningthepropercareandfeedingofthesebeauti‐
fulanimals.Healsoenjoysthesewingandgardeningprogramsandtheever‐popularbowlingouting.Ac‐
cordingtoBen,heisthrilledtobelearningtodrivethegolfcarts.
“WhenIpickBenupfromthebusstop,hesmilesalmosteveryday,”Anneshares.“Hedidn’tdothatbefore.
Heseemsveryhappyanditdidn’ttakelong.Ben’sadjustmentperiodatNewDanvillehasbeenverycom‐
forting,”theybothagree.“WehavepeaceandfeelwehavefoundthebestplaceforBen.”

7 Each issue we spotlight key members of our organization…. Spotlight on Melissa Young, Board member Melissa Young was born in Lansing, Michigan. She moved to The Woodlands,
Texas in 1991. She graduated from the University of St. Thomas in Houston
Magna Cum Laude with a BBA in Marketing. Melissa is an owner at Corporate
Incentives,Inc. Corporate Incentives is a family owned marketing and promo‐
tionalproductsfirm,foundedintheWoodlandsin1996.
Melissahasvolunteeredinmanyorganizationsandathersonsschoolsbutnone
as close to her heart as New Danville. She grew up with her best friend’s sister
whoattendsNewDanville.Shehasseenthechangesinthispersonfirsthandand
realizes the effect New Danville has on its clients. She shares the vision, dream
and importance of creating a place where high functioning mentally challenged
adultscanthriveandbehappy.
Inadditiontoservingontheboardofdirectors,MelissawasinstrumentalinguidingNewDanvilletobe‐
come a charity bingo operator. She was very active on the state‐level by serving as a director of Texas
CharityAdvocates,alobbyistandadvocateforcharitybingolocatedinAustin.
Melissa’struestpassionisherfamily.ShelivesintheWoodlandswithherhusband,Jeff,VPofOperations
at the CWMP and their two sons, Liam and Luke. Melissa has been a valuable asset to New Danville’s
boardofdirectors.Weareveryproudandhonoredtohaveherserveinthiscapacity.

MarywasbornandraisedinHouston.SheandheryoungerbrotherStephengrew
upintheMeyerlandareaofthecity.MarymetherfuturehusbandJimO’Neillinan
EconomicsclassduringhersophomoreyearatTexasA&MUniversity.Theywere
marriedbyheruncleatSt.Michael’sCatholicChurchinHouston.
MarygraduatedfromTexasA&MUniversitywithaBBAinAccounting,andworked
for a large Public Accounting firm. She attained her CPA certificate within a few
yearsofgraduation.Maryalsoworkedinbankingandenergybeforestartingher
family.SheandJimhavetwoboys:Joseph,14,andChristopher,11.
MaryisveryactivewithherChurch–St.AnthonyofPadua.ShehasbeenanUsherforthepasttwoyears,
andhastaughtPreschoolFaithFormation.HerchildrenattendSt.AnthonyofPaduaCatholicSchool.Her
oldestson,Joseph,justcompleted8thgradeandwillmoveontothenewestCatholichighschool,Frassati
Catholic,asafoundingstudentinthe2013‐2014schoolyear.WhileJosephandChristopherhavebeenat
St. Anthony’s, she has volunteered in many capacities, and has served a total of three years on the PTO,
bothasVP‐Communications,andTreasurer,andhasbeenontheAuctionFundraisingCommittee.
Mary joined New Danville and Lone Star HCS in December 2009. She was hired as the part‐time Book‐
keeper for both entities. As TNCA grew so did Mary’s responsibilities. She works closely with founder
KathySanders,andisresponsibleforallaspectsofTNCA’sfinancesincludingmonthlybillingfordaypro‐
gram,annualauditandIRStaxreports,andpayrollandbenefits.SheenjoysworkingatNewDanville,and
lovesseeingtheWranglersandMavericksinaction.Marysays,“theMilestoneCelebrationismyall‐time
favoriteNewDanvilleevent!”
NewDanvilleisveryfortunatetohaveMaryinchargeofitsAccountingDepartment.Sheisverydepend‐
able,loyalandthoroughlyknowledgeableofTNCA’soperations.Thankyou,Mary,forbeinganintegral
partofNewDanville’sadministrativeteam.

PattiandBillmetasco‐workersin1971atagrocerystoreinMadi‐
son,Wisconsin.AftergraduatingfromtheUniversityofWisconsin‐
Madison, Bill became a US Naval Aviator flying anti‐submarine
planes off aircraft carriers while stationed in the Mediterranean
Sea. Pattie worked in the oilfield manufacturing industry. During
thistime,PattiandBillweremarried.
Following Bill’s six years in the Navy, Patti and Bill started a fam‐
ily.Theyhavetwosons,RobbandRen.Inadditiontovolunteering
at their sons’ schools, Patti studied photography. While Patti was
busyraisingtheirchildren,BillworkedforContinentalAirlinesasa
Captain.Duringhis29yearcareerasacommercialairlinespilot,Billflewsixdifferent‐typesofplanes
andgainedvaluableexperience.
WithbothsonsgrownandresidingintheirownhomesinSpring,Texas,PattiandBillbecameempty
nesters.InSeptember2006withretirementapproaching,theymovedintotheirhousethattheybuilt
onasmalllakeinMontgomery,Texas.After4yearsofretirement,TheMarshallswereapproached
byagoodfriendandlearnedaboutanorganizationthatneededvolunteers.Pattistates,“Theysayin
your lifetime you'll meet only a handful of true friends”. For over 30 years, Patti and Bill Marshall
haveknownsuchaperson:BradyHull.Brady,aMondayvolunteerandformermemberoftheBoard
of Directors, told the Marshalls about New Danville and its need for committed volunteers. After a
tourandorientation,theMarshallsstartedvolunteeringinthefallof2011.PattivolunteerswithIn‐
structorVirginiaMullinaxandhelpswithartprojectsanddigitalphotography,andBillvolunteers
withSherryFranklinintheWoodshopandhasdevelopedaproto‐typelawnchairforfuturedevel‐
opment.
EveryweektheMarshallslookforwardtoofferingtheirassistance.VolunteeringatNewDanvillehas
beenrewardingforthem,andtheyfinditgratifyingtohelpouteveryTuesdayafternoon.Pattisays,
“NewDanvilleisaphenomenalplacethatprovidesanarrayofmeaningfulactivitiesforadultswith
disabilities. The joyful look on a Wrangler's face when seeing their 'finished project' of the day is
heart‐warming. The Marshalls are very special to New Danville, and we are very blessed to have
them.
BEEWRANGLERS
OneofNewDanville’smostenterprisingventuresisourhoney
production. Under the leadership of beekeeper Dean
Randolph, we now have six thriving bee hives with over
240,000hardworkinghoneybees.ToassistDeaninthecare
of the six hives, two New Danville wranglers are also Bee
Wranglers! DennisGoynes andJoshCrumphelpDeanwith
daily inspections and care of the hives. They ensure that the
beeshaveplentyofwaterandshadefromthescorchingsunto
help foster brood development and honey production. Each
hivewillproduceanannualyieldofabout25poundsofpure
honey.
Thefemalebeesworktirelesslytocareforthebabiesinthenursery.Plus they pamper the queen, protect
the hive from predators, gather nectar from wildflowers and flower beds, and then transform it into honey.
9 JAZZY JUNQUE CELEBRATES ONE YEAR ANNIVERSARY Afterfoursuccessfulannualfundraisers,JAZZYJUNQUE(andothergreatstuff!)
became a permanent storefront located at The Outlets at Conroe on August 6,
2012.“Reclaim,Restore,Recycle”isthemottoofJazzyJunque.Featuringdo‐
nateditemsthatareneworingoodandworkingcondition,savvyshopperscan
findexcitingstealsonfurniture,homedécor,boutique,children'sitems,house
waresandcollectoritemsatafractionofwhatitwouldcosttobuynew.Don’t
misstheBookNook featuringpaperbacks,hardbacks,CDs,aswellascollector
records. Products made
by Wranglers are showcased and available for
sale. New merchandise arrives daily. At afford‐

Becauseoftheeffortsanddedicationofstaff,vol‐
unteersandWranglers,JazzyJunquewasrecog‐
nized as the recipient of the 2012 Bill Porter
Award, awarded to the group that exhibits ex‐
cellenceanddedicationtoovercomingadversity.
Jazzy Junque was also recognized for out‐
standing window displays and snagged First
Place in a contest with more than 25 profes‐
sionalretailers.

OnabeautifulsunnySaturdaymorning,May4,2013,proudfamilymembers,dedicatedvolunteersandloyalstaff
celebratedtheWranglersandMavericksaccomplishmentsatNewDanville’s6thAnnualMilestoneCelebration.
Guests enjoyed shopping in the “marketplace” and purchasing hand‐crafted items produced by the Wranglers.
The Marketplace offered packages of fresh vegetables from our gardens, potted flowers from our greenhouse,
beautiful pens and other unique wood and art projects. Special ‘thanks’ to Diane and Brooke Bailey for the
lovelyscented‘fragrancetarts’theyhand‐producedtogetherwithJoyandLoganSanford(seerelatedarticle)for
thebenefitofNewDanville.
JonSheptock,2012TheWoodlandsIdolwinner,beltedoutpopulartunesandbrought
the crowdtotheir feetfora well‐deserved ovation. Jon, adisabled man who lives in
Huntsvilleandhasaprisonministry,ismarriedwiththreeyoungdaughters.Jongave
awayCDstoeachWranglerandMaverick.Theywereinspiredbyhisstoryofadversity
andcourage.Thankyou,Jon,foryourheartfeltandpowerfulperformance.
The Spirit Cookers, a volunteer ministry of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Conroe,
Texas, provided, prepared and served lunch to over 180 attendees. A very special
‘thankyou’toSpiritCookerBarbaraSchattleforbakinganddecoratingthe6thanni‐
versarycommemorativesheetcake–adeliciousandbeautifullydecoratedmasterpiece
featuringtheNewDanvillelogo.
NewDanvilleDayProgramandJazzyJunqueresalestoreVolunteerswererecognized
andthankedfortheircountlesshoursofservice.Withoutourvolunteers,wewouldnotbeabletoaccomplishas
