Ever want to be on reality TV?

Learn how from two-time ‘Survivor’ contestant
t. Bonaventure University welcomes Rob
Cesternino from CBS’ “Survivor: The
Amazon” and “Survivor: All-Star” as he
explains how research took him
to “Survivor” twice and also gives
tips on how to get on reality TV.
All are invited to attend
Cesternino’s presentation at 7:30
p.m. Wednesday, April 6, in the
Reilly Center Arena. Admission is
free.
Cesternino is a recent
graduate of the State University
of New York at Oswego, where he
spent his senior year working on
his senior thesis “the impact of reality television.” While reality television was still in its
infancy, Cesternino began his study of the
genre which eventually led him to become a
participant in the CBS series “Survivor: The
Amazon.”
“With the popularity of
reality television shows on the major networks
today, St. Bonaventure University is pleased to
present Rob Cesternino, a past contestant
from the most popular reality show,
‘Survivor,’” said Steve Plesac, director of student activities.
Cesternino was able to put
his knowledge into practical use
as he became recognized as a
master strategist. Ultimately,
his third-place finish led
“Survivor” host Jeff Probst to
label him “the smartest player
not to win.” Cesternino’s impact
on the game has earned him
another invitation to return to
“Survivor: All-Star.”
Since then, among other things,
Cesternino has written a weekly newspaper
column for his local paper, made speaking
engagements, endorsed Mattel’s “Magic 8-ball”
(which was his luxury item) and has been writing and performing stand-up comedy.
This program is sponsored by the campus activities board.
New exhibition opening
In opera, the music intensifies the
drama, according to costume designer
David Roberts, who tries to do the same
visually with the costumes he creates
for both opera and ballet. A new exhibition, “David Roberts: Costume Designs
for Opera,” opens at 7 p.m. Tuesday
with a free gallery talk by the artist.
One of his topics will be the role played
by paintings and other art works in the
re-creation of historic periods on the
stage.
Sketches for “Volpone,” “Così fan
tutte,” “Faust,” “La Finta Giardiniera”
and “Romeo and Juliet” are included in
this exhibition, along with some production photographs and three costumes
from “Volpone” and “Così fan tutte.”
The gallery talk on Tuesday is free
and open to the public, and the exhibitions will be open both before and after
the talk.

Local band Navar to open for
‘Spring Weekend’ concert
ocal rock band Navar, heard playing
locally in Allegany, will now rock the
Reilly Center Arena at St. Bonaventure
University as it opens for this year’s Spring
Weekend concert headliners, Reel Big Fish, at
8 p.m. Thursday, April 28.

SBU tradition as
music fans,” said
Pat Barry, lead
singer. “It makes it
even more special
for Tim and our
manager, Adam, to
be a part of this as
St. Bonaventure
alumni.”
Navar, a self-managed and independent
band founded in 2002 in Fillmore, N.Y., has
opened for multi-platinum recording artists
Third Eye Blind and The Goo Goo Dolls. The
band has played nearly 90 shows all over New
York state, including Rochester, Buffalo and
New York City.
Navar was the dream of lead singer and guitar player Pat Barry. Barry began playing with
his brother, Ben, a bass veteran, and the two
recorded a 12-song, self-titled debut.
Over the next year, Navar saw band members come and go. Fortunately, Mike “Skippy”
Yudichak on guitar and Tim Lindhome on
drums soon joined the band to create what is
now Navar. Together they created the
“Unreleased EP.” EP was never formally
released because their popular “Everything’s
the Same” single drove them into the studio to
record their second full-length album “Your
Window.”
Together with producer Marc Hunt and
Robby Takac, producer and member of
“The Goo Goo
Dolls,” Navar
entered Chameleon
West recording studio, owned by
Takac, to create the
15-track album
“Your Window.” The
album is full of
what Navar has
become known for
— passion.
Navar has also

been broadcasted on
the nationally syndicated Howard Stern Show
and featured on XM Satellite Radio. The band
has played many shows in the heart of NYC’s
music scene, including such venues as CBGB,
Arlene Grocery, The Luna Lounge and The
Alphabet Lounge.
Navar can be heard locally on FM Radio
101.5-the Mix in Olean and is in rotation at
Bona’s WSBU-FM the Buzz, which has also
done two on-air interviews with the band.
Articles have been written about Navar in local
papers, including the Cuba Patriot and The
(Olean) Times Herald.
Be part of the fun at this year’s 2005
Spring Weekend!

e part of the fun at this year’s Spring
Weekend! When your team isn’t competing in the softball tournament,
come to the carnival midway where you can
play such games as milk can toss, penny pitch
and pop-a-pimple — right next to your favorite
carnival food (fried dough, sausage sandwiches
and caramel apples).
Better yet, get your club, organization or
team together to man a game booth Friday,
April 29, and Saturday, April 30. The booths —
as well as a number of prizes for winners —
will be provided. And, better yet, your organization gets to keep a portion of the money your
booth brings in.
Game booths will be centrally located on the
outdoor basketball courts between the Reilly
Center and the Sandra A. and William L.
Richter Center and need to be manned from 47 p.m. Friday and 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday.
In addition to being close to the cotton candy
stand, the game booths will be adjacent to the
outdoor stage, which will feature entertainment
including the student band Smart 7 (formerly
Nullnvoid).

Give back by volunteering this summer
Spend 10 weeks this summer working at
the Warming House where you will plan and
prepare meals, organize repair projects and
be challenged by issues of social justice. You
will be able to join other students in a communal living situation and share your faith
