North Metropolitan TAFE’s Diploma of Engineering - Technical (Mechanical) is the perfect preparation for you in a new, rapidly evolving industry. Gain skills in computer aided drafting (CAD), and you can interpret and create drawings. You will then use the drawings in the manufacture of equipment using workshop machinery (lathes, welding, tapping etc). Learning about fluid power will give you the skills and knowledge to set up and connect hydraulic equipment. The course will build your skills in machinery, mechanical principles and mechanical equipment. Covering both materials and use of material testing equipment, the course will also teach you techniques for writing technical documents. Assessment is project based so you will apply what you have learnt to build equipment and systems. The first semester of the Diploma of Engineering - Technical (Mechatronics) and the Diploma of Engineering - Technical (Mechanical) share the same subjects. You can switch between the two streams by your choice of electives or by studying additional electives you could gain both qualifications. Our mechanical qualifications can be applied over a wide variety of employment areas including: • mining & mineral processing • manufacturing • oil & gas industry • automotive industry • aviation & shipbuilding • road & rail transport • defence • agriculture, fishing & food processing You can also continue your studies in the Advanced Diploma of Engineering (Mechanical) and gain credits towards an Engineering degree. VET FEE-HELP Students doing Diploma and Advanced Diploma courses may be eligible for VET FEE-HELP, an Australian Government loan that helps eligible students complete their qualification without having to pay fees upfront. mechanical engineering | training & career pathways mechanical engineering Duration Location Diploma of Engineering - Technical (Mechanical) Perth Campus and East One year full-time Perth Campus Advanced Diploma of Engineering (Mechanical) Two years OR One year with completion Perth Campus and East of Diploma of Engineering Perth Campus Technical (Mechanical) Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) RPL is a way of using your existing skills to get a formal qualification or parts of a qualification.
