SOLTEQ-QVF™ Equipment for Engineering Education & Research CLIMBING FILM PIPE EVAPORATOR MODEL: BP 210 HE Climbing Film Pipe Evaporator (Model: BP 210) has been designed for student demonstration on climbing film evaporation process. This floor standing pilot-plant unit consists mainly of an evaporator tube, a feed tank, a feed pump, a cyclone separator, vessels for distillate and concentrate, and a vacuum pump. The unit is suitable for the evaporation and concentration of heat sensitive products such as milk, fruit juices, etc. Using the existing laboratory steam supply students will conduct experiments to study the effects on evaporation rate of feed flow rate and temperature, and evaporator temperature and pressure. Students will also study the effect of process parameters on the evaporator economy. T The dilute feed from the feed tank enters the bottom of the evaporator tube, on the outside of which steam is condensing. The feed is often below its boiling point, and for a short distance, the feed to the tube flows upward as a liquid and receives heat from the condensing steam. Bubbles of vapour are formed when boiling of the liquid commences, and they increase the linear velocity of the flow, thus increasing the rate of heat transfer. Towards the end of the tube, bubble growth is rapid, and bubbles of vapour alternating with slugs of liquid rise quickly through the tube and discharge at a high velocity from the top. The resulting mixture of liquid and vapour then enters the separator, where the linear velocity of the vapour is reduced, allowing the separation of the liquid and vapour streams to take place. The concentrated liquor can then be removed from the system (once through operation) or can be recycled for further concentration (re-circulation). The vapour leaves the top of the separator to a condenser and collected or discarded as distillate. Outlets for thick liquor, vapour, steam condensate, and non-condensable gasses from the steam. Feed Vessel (B1) 5-L graduated vessel made of glass with charge port, vacuum connection and venting. Concentrate Vessel (B2) 2.5-L graduated cylindrical vessel made of glass with charge port. Feed Pump (P1) Chemical metering pump with bypass valve. Capacity: 10 L/hr. Vacuum Pump (P2) Chemical resistant diaphragm pump delivering down to 8 mbar vacuum at a flow rate of up to 2.5 m3/h. Comes complete with a vacuum controller, suction side separator and pressure side emission condenser. Instrument and Control Temperature measurements for concentrate, steam, and cooling water inlet and outlet. Flow rate mesurements for feed, steam and cooling water. Pressure measurements for evaporator and steam. Framework Stainless steel pipe with all necessary holders and brackets.
