Names of the young people concluding their high school career are listed on this page of First Press. A covered dish meal is planned at noon on June 7. DR. JERRY BRON, a retired Presbyterian pastor, will be serving First Church from my departure until Mike Garrett’s arrival. As required by the Book of Order, Dr. Bron will chiefly moderate Session meetings. He will meet with church staff, and assist Donna Fowler-Marchant. I first met Jerry in 1972. He is an outstanding servant and a former student of Dr. Ben Lacy Rose. I know you will welcome him! Click for his bio. DR. MICHAEL GARRETT, your interim associate pastor, is preparing for ministry at First Church. He will soon conclude his service as pastor of Westminster Church, Snellville, Georgia. A brief biographical sketch is on page 3 of First Press. His first Sunday at First Church is July 12, 2015. GRADUATION for First School students was last week and resumes next fall We are grateful to God for First School’s excellent program, led by Director Julie MacRae, and her outstanding staff and board. Child care at First Presbyterian is always nurturing. Children explore the truths of God’s Word through age-appropriate activities. Your Nursery Staff takes seriously the call to care for children. Congregational Care Be reminded that Prayer Request Cards are available in the pews. If you, a family member, or a friend has a special need to be remembered in prayer, fill out this request card and drop it in the offering plate. Many things are wrought through prayer, and your church wants to help. Emergency Pastoral Concerns If you’re hospitalized, seriously ill or having surgery... please notify the church office at 483-0121. The Two Cents Offering The fund aids the Fayetteville Urban Ministry and the “House of Moses” Crisis Nursery in Lusaka, Zambia. The Two Cents Offering received on Sunday, April 26, 2015, was $784.01. All baptized persons are invited to participate. www.firstprez.com Session Calls Dr. Michael Garrett Mike graduated from Union Theological Seminary in VA with a Master of Divinity degree in 1987. He later attended Columbia Theological Seminary in Decatur, Georgia, and received the Doctor of Ministry degree in 2002. Mike began his work in parish ministry by answering a call to be the associate pastor at the First Presbyterian Church of Danville, Virginia, in 1987. In 1992 he answered the call of the North Avenue Presbyterian Church in Atlanta to serve as associate pastor for Evangelism and Pastoral Care. In 1998 he received a call to come to Colorado’s Corona Presbyterian Church in Denver as senior pastor, where he served for six and a half years. In the fall of 2004 he was called to come to Westminster Presbyterian Church to serve as senior pastor. Mike began his ministry at Westminster in January 2005. He comes from that pulpit to First Presbyterian in Fayetteville. In 1984 Mike was married to Marcia. Together they have two children, Tricia and Baxter. Mike enjoys fishing, reading, spareribs, and hanging out at the beach with his family. The teacher, who will be in the front of the sanctuary at the start of the second hymn, will take the children to Room 116. YOUTH NEWS YOUTH LOCK-IN on Friday, May 29, 8 p.m. to 8 a.m. Saturday. We head to The Climbing Place from 9 p.m.-midnight for rock climbing, games, and pizza. Afterwards we return to the church for more fun. Cost is $20.
