PADUA FRANCISCAN HIGH SCHOOL
MISSION
Padua Franciscan High School, a Catholic, college-preparatory school, committed to the
traditions and values of Saint Francis and Saint Clare of Assisi, educates young men and women
within a community where all are challenged to achieve academic excellence and to live out a
lifelong commitment to Christ in Holiness and Learning.
Padua Franciscan has provided generations of young men and women an education
established in the Catholic faith. Padua was founded in 1961 and is now the largest private,
co-educational secondary school in northeast Ohio.
Named for St. Anthony of Padua, we are a community rooted in the Gospel and modeled on
the values of our patron saints. The faculty and staff take great responsibility in supporting the
faith formation of our students.
As a premier high school, our mission is to develop the unique talents of each student, while
giving them the strong academic foundation they need to succeed in college and beyond.
In his commencement address to the Padua Class of 2014, Fr. Michael Perry, ofm, Minister General
of the Order of Friars Minor, delivered a personal message from Pope Francis.

“Tell my young
brothers and sisters
to open their hearts
to life, to one another
and to God who
loves each and every
one of them. Tell
them to trust God
because He will
lead them to
authentic love, joy
and peace. Tell
them to accept the
challenges that will
come and to see
these as opportunities
for growth, for love,
and for faith!”
– Pope Francis
FRANCISCAN
SPIRITUALITY
Padua’s Franciscan charism strives to foster a spirit of unity and not uniformity in order to respect the
giftedness of every person, ensuring that all feel a part of our Franciscan family.
We welcome students of all faith traditions. This is evident in the expansive International & Foreign
Exchange Program which includes over 30 students from 15 countries.
Padua Franciscan has the most comprehensive retreat program in the area. Students will participate
in a retreat every year that focuses on developing relationships with each other and God. We are in
our 16th year of offering the Kairos Retreat to our Juniors. Senior year, students can choose from 8
different retreat options including backpacking, biking, canoeing, and hiking.
“Padua Franciscan calls us to imitate God’s preference for the poor and the powerless.
If you open yourself to God and his plan printed deeply in your heart, God will
open himself to you. Wherever your treasure is, that’s where your heart will be.”
– Fr. Allan DaCorte, ofm, President

SERVICE
FAITH IN
ACTION
At Padua Franciscan, students learn the importance of actions as a reflection of faith. Service projects
instill leadership, self-discipline, and social cooperation; furthermore, they encourage students to develop
effective decision-making skills and personal accountability.
Padua students commit to 4 years of service:
•
•
•
Freshmen volunteer 20 hours for school, parish, and family
Sophomores make 4 visits to homeless shelters or soup kitchens
•
Juniors make 8 visits to nursing homes or handicapped facilities
Seniors engage in an advocacy project in order to live out the values of Catholic Social Teachings
As a long-standing Padua tradition, Christmas For Others (CFO) is the largest student-run fundraiser in
northeast Ohio. Our students raise over $30,000 each year to help local and global charities. Yearly mission
trip opportunities are available to students each summer to places such as El Salvador, Honduras, and the
Dominican Republic.

Students have the same counselor throughout their sophomore, junior, and senior years
Our counselors meet regularly with our Campus Ministry, administrators, and the nurses to collaborate
and share information on students that may need additional assistance
•
The college planning process no longer starts in the senior year; counselors provide
college planning information starting in the freshman year

SCHOOL SPIRIT
Padua pride runs deep. Students take great joy in our school and students support each
other on all levels. We are the BRUINS and that means One Team, One Dream, One Family.
What is it like to be a Padua Bruin? Ask our students about pep rallies, Homecoming,
Winter Formal, Spirit Week, Turkey Bowl, and Olympic Day.
Ask our Bruins how they felt when their lockers were decorated for their special day. Ask
our Bruins how it felt to have an entire school turn out to cheer them on for a championship game or show their support at the spring musical. Never alone, always a Bruin!
“Rallies are fun, crazy, and loud! They bring us
together! Bruins United!” – Kevin Giulivo`16
