LAC LA BICHE COUNTY ACTIVITY GUIDE
LAC LA BICHE COUNTY
ACTIVITY GUIDE
>> WINTER 2015/16
Your Playground of Opportunity
mayor
A Message From
Mayor Omer Moghrabi
On behalf of Council, I’m proud to present
the first issue of the Lac La Biche County
Activity Guide.
Lac La Biche County remains one of the
most fortunate municipalities in Alberta,
boasting the Bold Center, Portage Pool,
and multiple outdoor public spaces
accessible to all. With so many recreation
opportunities available, residents can find
County programs that match their needs.
The Activity Guide lists County programs
that get all County residents—children
and seniors included—moving. In this
document, you’ll find fitness classes,
programs that support childhood development,
and listings for all County-run recreation
spaces in our region. With the holiday
season and New Year’s resolutions close at
hand, the guide offers residents convenient
ways to meet their goals, whether fitnessrelated or simply spending more time with
the family.
I hope that you enjoy the Activity Guide,
and I look forward to seeing even more
County programs that support residents’
health and wellness.

Mayor
The County is famous for its many lakes, most
notably Lac La Biche Lake, which is a French
translation of a Cree phrase meaning “Lake
of the Elk.” In addition to lakes, rivers and
streams, the County’s landscape features
forests, farmland, muskeg, and dozens of
recreation areas and trails.

FAQS
How are swimmers
evaluated?
Students are evaluated during
each class of the session. To
complete a level, the swimmer
must be able to demonstrate
the skills in that level 3 times.
Because swimmers develop
differently, it’s normal for
participants to repeat levels.
My child was asked
to repeat a level they
already completed.
What can I do?
Bring your child to the pool to
practice. Children who do not
spend time in the pool outside
of class will rarely be able to
advance to the next level.
What should I do if my
child is sick or will
miss a class?
If you know your child will miss
several lessons, please let the
instructor know. Missing more than
one lesson may impact your child’s
ability to complete the level.

Welcoming and Inclusive Communities
(For all residents new to Lac La Biche County)
Moving to a new community is both exciting and stressful, but help is available
to settle you into your new life. Welcoming and Inclusive Communities connects
newcomers to the community. The committee organizes community potlucks
and Café Nights, and puts together welcome packages. All events and
resources are free.
Canada Volunteer Income Tax Program (CVITP)
Early March to end of April. FCSS & Community Development offices, and
various locations to be determined.
The CVITP is a collaboration between the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA)
and community organizations. We host tax preparation clinics for seniors.
We also have volunteers to help seniors (only those with modest incomes
and a simple tax situation) prepare income tax and benefit returns. This
program is free, begins at the end of March, and runs until everyone is
helped. Service is offered by appointment.
Paratransit Services
The Paratransit Service improves the quality of life of seniors and persons
with disabilities in Lac La Biche County, and is an affordable, on-demand
transportation option. This door-to-door service offers rides to medical
appointments, professional services, shopping venues, and social events.
Paratransit users also benefit from a wheel chair lift and can bring a guest
at no extra charge, should they require support during their trip.
When you register for the programs, you’ll receive a monthly invoice similar
to a Lac La Biche County utility bill in the mail.
