Grant Achatz’s dazzling menus feature 12 or 24 courses that can last up to five hours. While on the surface Achatz’s sci-fi food creations possess a certain gee-whiz, how'd-he-do-that technicality (many are presented on specially designed service pieces), they also pack remarkable depth and flavor. The creations can involve cinnamon smoking over a hot rock to provide an aromatic kick to rare bison, or butterscotch-glazed bacon draped over a wire on a rocking metal stand. The seasonal menu is inspired from regions in Spain, Portugal, Italy and France. The accomplished menu focuses on small and large sharing plates of rustic, Mediterranean “peasant foods, “ with many dishes cooked in a wood-burning oven and served in cast iron pots. This polished restaurant combines old school elements with a decidedly modern slant. Steaks are dry aged onpremise in their own salt cave. Appetizers include some of Burke's notable dishes like the spicy "angry lobster," plus deluxe choices like a Kobe beef sashimi. Meaty items include a lamb porterhouse and a "South Side" filet mignon. His popular "cheesecake lollipops" are a dessert highlight. DE CERO (Mexican and American Tex Mex) $ 814 W. Setting the example himself, "Da' Coach" is in the restaurant most evenings when he is in town, greeting and acknowledging his many fans and customers. Despite the large amount of sports memorabilia and televisions, Mike Ditka's manages to be a very classy place. Specialties include the Duck Cigar and Da Coach's Pork Chop. Ditka’s was also awarded the honor of having the best cheeseburger in Chicago. With numerous Private Dining rooms Ditka’s is the perfect place to hold a large or small function. Formerly a meat packing plant, the restaurant features plenty of brick and wood paneling and a bar and fireplace crowned with a huge elk head. Toasted ravioli with blue cheese is a tempting starter on the Italian-influenced menu and the main event includes the petite filet mignon paired with a heaping side of full-bodied lemon pepper-flavored broccoli as well as gnocchi in tomato and basil sauce. LaSalle 312-932-9330 Named after the South Brazilian Gaucho’s open-fire method of preparing delicious barbecues, Fogo de Chao is a meat-lover’s paradise. Fogo de Chao successfully operates with “espeto corridor,” or continuous service, of food. Costumed gauchos bearing skewers of meat roam the dining room as their ancestors once roamed the southern Pampas, eager to slice and serve to whomever requests it. Displays of art and fashions by upcoming designers are diplayed in the front window on a monthly basis making this a fashionable hangout.
