Alamo® Product Guide Alamo® Product Guide For Oak Wilt and Laurel Wilt Management Product Category: Fungicide Active Ingredient: Propiconazole 14.3% Item #:1202 Unit Size: 1 Quart Unit Treats: 47½”-95” DBH Product Overview: Alamo® is a tree injected systemic fungicide used for the management of oak wilt and laurel wilt disease. Alamo® should only be used as a prevention measure for laurel wilt on red bay or oak wilt on oaks in the red oak family. However, it can be used as a prevention or therapeutic measure for oak wilt on oaks in the white or live oak family. How do I apply it? Dilute Alamo® in water and apply as a root flare injection using the Low Volume Macro-Infusion Pump equipment. When do I apply it? Oak Wilt: Application for red oaks and white oaks can begin after full leaf development in the spring and can be made throughout the growing season until just prior to the onset of fall coloration. Application for live oaks can be made throughout the year, except during the leaf transition period in February and March. Laurel Wilt: Applications can be made throughout the year as long as the trees are full leaf. Note: A treatment of Alamo® lasts for two years. To ensure proper tree health, Alamo® should be applied once every two years. Determining DBH After determining the size of your tree, look at the rate card to see how much product is needed. How much product do I need? It is important to apply the proper dose to the plant you are treating. Gather the following information to determine the accurate amount of product needed: 1. Determine the plant species to be treated and the rate category it belongs to. If you’re having trouble identifying your tree, contact the Tree Geeks for more information. Single Stem: Measure the standard DBH of the tree. Multiple Individual Trees Growing in Close Proximity: For trees that have grown close together, measure the DBH of each stem and treat each stem individually. Multi-stem Split At or Below DBH: For a tree that has multiple stems splitting below DBH, measure the tree at the narrowest point between the root flare and the split. Stem Clusters: For trees that are grown too close together to be treated as individual trees, measure the DBH of each stem and add the measurements together. 2. Measure your tree. At 4½ feet above the ground, wrap a measuring tape around the trunk of the tree. Divide the measurement by 3.14 to get the diameter, also known as DBH (diameter at breast height). (Refer to Determining DBH chart, left). If you have a tree with multiple stems, measure the diameter of the tree at the narrowest point between the root flare and split of the stems. Dilute each 10 mL of Alamo® in up to one liter of water. The current label allows up to 20 mL Alamo® per inch of DBH for trees growing in areas of heavy disease pressure. White Oak Group: • Treat with 10 mL of Alamo® per inch of DBH for trees less than 25 inches. For trees greater than 25 inches use 20 mL of Alamo® per inch of DBH. Dilute each 10 mL of Alamo® in up to one liter of water. Laurel Wilt: Treat with 20 mL of Alamo® per inch of DBH. Dilute each 10 mL of Alamo® in up to one liter of water. Dosage Reduction Considerations Oak Wilt: Members of the white oak group have greater risk for developing a phytotoxic reaction. • Reduce the dosage rate for missing canopy, especially on stressed trees or diseased trees. (See Fig. 1) • During times of prolonged drought, water the tree 1-2 days prior to making the application and keep the tree watered after the application. 30% Missing Canopy 30% Shared Canopy (Fig. 1) Tree Geek’s mission is to encourage Do-it-Yourselfers who want to care for the health of their trees.
