Upward Bound (UB) is a year-round comprehensive academic college preparation, and retention program. UB provides academic instruction, student support, and promotes academic excellence, to high-potential college bound students preparing to attend, and graduate from a four year university, upon high school graduation. You are from a Low Income Household. (See chart below for the Federal Income Guidelines). -and/or- 2. You are a First Generation Student. (Neither of your parents/ guardians possesses a bachelor’s degree in the U.S.). 3. You are or will be attending one of our target high schools: -Oceanside HS -San Marcos HS -El Camino HS -Fallbrook HS -Del Lago Academy -Escondido HS -Rancho Buena Vista HS -San Pasqual HS -Vista HS -Orange Glen HS 4. You have a valid U.S. Social Security number. 2015 Federal TRiO Income Guidelines FAMILY SIZE: INCOME: 2 $23, 895 3 $30, 135 4 $36, 375 5 $42, 615 6 $48, 855 7 $55, 095 8 $61, 335 Participant Responsibilities Academic Year Component Summer Residential Component UB Staff works with students individually and in cohort groups to address academic needs and to develop a college bound academic plan so that students are able to apply and attend a four year university upon high school graduation. During the Academic Year Component (AYC), Upward Bound offers the following services: The Summer Residential Component simulates a college going experience and is designed to provide students with the opportunity to enrich their academic skills in a college setting. To ensure student success in the program, each UB Student must make a commitment to do the following: College-Bound Potential & Academic Need: Maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.8 until graduation. Take appropriate but challenging classes each semester. Commitment and Motivation: Attend all UB events, such as College Saturdays, after school tutoring, field trips/college visits and the 4-week summer residential component. Maintain contact with UB Staff and cohort advisor throughout the academic year. Academic Advising College Prep. Guidance Assistance in College Admissions Forms After School Tutoring at our UB Tutoring Center SAT/PSAT/ACT Test Preparation Classes Financial Aid, College and Career Student Workshops Parent College Prep. Workshops College Visits/ College Fairs Educational Field Trips College Saturdays *UB provides Bus Transportation during selected events. During the Summer Residential Component (SRC), Upward Bound offers the following services: Dorm at a University to obtain the College Life Experience College Prep. Courses Academic Enrichment Cultural Activities College Visits and Field Trips Career and Academic Advising Leadership & Team building skills development Study habits necessary for college
