Meet at Pioneer Farmsteaders’ location, 7000 Garrison St, at 6:30 p.m. for an optional farm walk to locate and identify certain weeds. Class begins at 7 p.m. in the Nature Center. JULY CLASSES Learn about the life cycle of the "enemy" and use that information to manipulate it into submission. See some weeds in their natural state then explore a range of organic methods, from ancient to up-and-coming, for keeping them in line. Sign up in advance. Nathan Casteel joined the Majestic View team in May as a Park Security Officer, trained and certified through Allied Barton Security. As you see him around the Nature Center and on his bicycle in the park, be sure to say “Hi”. Nathan is a big fan of mountain biking and car restoration, an Eagle Scout and native of Colorado. Horses and Neigh-ture at The Arvada Indoor Equestrian Center Hands Dirty, Feet Wet – Nature Playdates Get hands-on with horses while you gain experience on how to be safe and have fun. Our day camps cover a wide range of topics from riding and vaulting to barn management. Enjoy some time with the horses, then an hour connecting with nature though fun and educational activities with Majestic View Nature Center staff. This camp is a great way to get outdoors, exercise, and learn, all while building self-confidence. The Arvada Indoor Equestrian Center (7650 Indiana St., Arvada 80007) is devoted to educating all equine enthusiasts. Call 720-394-0191 to register. Bring your children for a nature playdate in our new “Nature: Explore” space, where they can climb on logs, jump stump to stump, build forts, dig in the dirt and connect with their world. No screens, no plans, no slides or swings, rather loads of unstructured imagination and creativity. Please sign up in advance. Soil and Water Conservation Thursdays, July 7 and 14, 4:30-6:30 p.m. Ages 10 yrs.-adult, $15. Get your hands dirty, or should we say soily, in this 2 part investigation of water, soil, and why they are so important to protect. Use hands-on activities and models to get a better understanding of these ecological elements. This program, open to the public, will also fulfill most requirements for the Boy Scout Merit Badge. By saving seeds from your best plants this year, you‘ll save money next year and be on your way to developing your own heirloom vegetables. ABOUT THE CENTER Arvada’s Majestic View Nature Center & Community Park is a valuable resource, providing environmental education and awareness of our natural resources. The park encompasses over 80 acres, including wetlands, prairie, interpretive trails, demonstration garden, and a variety of wildlife. The building features hands-on displays, wildlife exhibits, classrooms, and meeting space. A variety of programs are offered for the general public, school groups, preschools, scouts, and special interest groups. Programs presented at our site or yours. Iceland and the Emirates, A World Apart: Majestic View Travel Series Tuesday, July 26, 7 - 8:30 p.m. Ages 10-adult, $5. Enjoy a presentation of contrasts from local travelers, Joe and Nickie McMillan. Cool down in Nordic waterfalls, geysers and glaciers from the southern coast of Iceland. Then, warm up with sand, sun, and sweltering heat in the cities and deserts of the United Arab Emirates. These odd bedfellows, opposite in many ways, both will leave you intrigued and packing your bags. Sign up in advance. Underwater Wildlife at Oak Park Look below the surface to see what critters live in the lakes and streams of Colorado. Lift up rocks and dip a net into the lake bottom to meet these amazing creatures.
