News reports on the Ethiopian famine in 1984, Geldof and Ultravox frontman Midge Ure co-wrote the charity single ‘Do They Know It’s Christmas?’ Performed under the name Band Aid, it featured some of the biggest stars of the time, and became the bestselling single in UK history – raising millions for charity. Following this, Geldof became heavily involved in plans for Live Aid, a charity concert to raise money for the African poor. Two marathon shows were held simultaneously in July 1985, one at Wembley Stadium in London and one at JFK Stadium in Philadelphia. The event raised millions for charity, and is still widely applauded as one of the greatest live shows ever. His charity work has been recognised throughout the world, and as a result, he has been nominated several times for the Nobel Peace Prize and received a knighthood. Starting out as the band behind Ian Dury, the Blockheads are a legendary outfit that has grown in stature from the early days of the Stiff tour in 1977, right up to the present day. Rarely off the road since the demise of Ian Dury in 2000, but now with Derek Hussey fronting the band, the Blockheads are still one of the most underrated British bands of all time, with a legion of fans of all ages. Derek Hussey’s lyrics in the band’s new songs keep the combination of poetry, word play, earthy humour and deadly-accurate observations of everyday, British working-class life, that Ian Dury had perfected, but with an added bite for the 21st century. Along with some new material you can expect to hear “Hit Me with your Rhythm Stick”, “Wake Up And Make Love With Me”, “Reasons To Be Cheerful (Part 3)”, “What A Waste”, “Clevor Trever”, “Sweet Gene Vincent” and many more from the illustrious back catalogue. The Blockheads are fronted by Derek ‘The Draw’ Hussey, and Chaz Jankel, Norman Watt-Roy, John Turnbull and Mick Gallagher still remain from the original band. www.theblockheads.com Jasper Carrott’s Stand Up And Rock does what it says on the tin....Jasper is back to his very best....mic in hand regaling the audience with his inimitable stand up routines before introducing his musical compatriots that have been ‘rockin’ audiences all over the world. Bev Bevan, as well as being Jasper’s mate has rock star credentials that most dream of from the Move through ELO and has one of the finest bands around. Rockin’ Berries lead singer Geoff Turton, celtic rock band Quills lead singer ‘Joy’ and the Bev Bevan band comprising some of the country’s finest musicians. So do not miss this unique show that gives the opportunity to see and hear great legendary artistes belt out a night of fantastic songs and Jasper back where he belongs......making us laugh!! La Traviata is an Opera in three acts by Giuseppe Verdi, set to an Italian libretto by Francesco Maria Piave - a love story shrouded in sacrifice and misunderstanding. Masterpiece in its own right, it contains some of Verdi’s most beautiful and memorable music. The title La Traviata means literally The Fallen Woman, or perhaps more figuratively, The Woman Who Strayed. It is based on La Dame aux Camélias, a play adapted from the novel by Alexandre Dumas, fils. It recounts Dumas’ true-life affair with the beautiful demi-mondaine, Marie Duplessis. A courtesan called Violetta is stuck in a round of endless parties until Alfredo, a geeky writer, convinces her to live in the country. Deeply in love, all is blissful contentment until some home truths convince her to leave Alfredo and head back into the arms of another… Shadowing Violetta is the disease that so often afflicts morally questionable 19th-century women: consumption. Verdi’s music encompasses an astonishing range of moods and emotions, from Alfredo’s fresh-faced charms to Violetta’s vivid effervescence, which is perfectly captured in ‘Sempre libera’, a vocal showpiece to rival any other. A tragic and resonant tale of society and morality, La Traviata combines compelling characters with hugely powerful, moving and instantly recognisable melodies, making it still, 160 years after its 1853 debut, one of the most emotionally engaging and popular Operas of all time. To see this opera is to have an experience of unforgettable emotive power and reflection. 2004 X factor finalists and multi-platinum selling vocal quartet G4 are excited to announce that, due to unprecedented demand, they have confirmed a schedule for a multi-date UK tour to celebrate their 10th Anniversary. The Reunion Tour will take two halves, the first in April, the second in the autumn. G4 set an exciting trend by bringing classical music to British reality TV screens for the first time in 2004 with their performance of Nessun Dorma. However, it was their cover of Bohemian Rhapsody that became their signature tune, storming the charts in 2005. Their eponymous debut album went straight to No.1, selling more than 245,000 in the first week, making it Tickets £29.50, Concessions £27.50 Tickets £22.50, Concessions £21, VIP £75 THE REUNION TOUR SUPPORT ACT - CHARLOTTE JACONELLI SOPRANO & BRITAIN’S GOT TALENT RUNNER-UP the fastest-selling album of the year . In 2007, after three albums, over two million album sales and five sell-out tours with performances in many of the UK’s iconic venues, they decided to disband to follow individual interests. The Reunion Tour has been inspired by the overwhelming response to G4’s 10 Year Reunion concert at London’s Barbican Centre on November 17th. Experience G4’s trademark sound: expect to hear the tunes that helped make them famous, such as My Way, Nessun Dorma and Bohemian Rhapsody, alongside some fresh takes on music of more recent years. It’s sure to be an evening to live long in the memory: not to be missed! 7 FRIDAY 2nd OCTOBER 7.30PM A lively production, infused with old world charm, Coppélia appeals to audiences of all ages with its captivating story of an eccentric toymaker and his beloved doll.
