Now. . .
e are letting out
our luxury holiday
home Ty Griffett
to discerning guests when
our own family are not
using it. Our longuere is
light and airy, with a very
large open plan living, dining and kitchen with a
mezzanine area above. Two sets of rustic
polished wood open-tread stairs lead to the
upstairs bedroom and the mezzanine.

Then . . .
y Griffett – the little house with loads of
potential, if you looked hard! After three
years our dream finally came true.
T
With our limited French we spent 18 months
with an architect who didn’t speak a word of
English trying to convey our vision for the
finished house. We all ended up on the same
wavelength & submitted our drawings to obtain
planning permission, and of course the planning
department operate in French time and not
English time! Another 18 months go by trying to
find the right builder – preferably one who
spoke English – eventually we found Wayne
([email protected]) and he took the
project on with gusto. Hooray for Wayne! Our
dream house starts to appear – well, actually
firstly disappear as when we took the roof off
the walls fell down! But eight months later our
longuere with loads of potential is now a
fantastic large house that has fulfiled its
potential and more!
The lounge has a vaulted ceiling with that
immediate ‘Wow!’ factor when you step inside.
It’s focal point is the wood burning stove,
complete with a large quantity of wood, just in
case the evenings get a bit cool in the winter
months. With two large sofas and a easy chair
there is plenty of seating for everyone.
The kitchen is very well equipped with a stainless
steel range cooker with wok burner, microwave/
oven/grill, washing machine and full-size dishwasher.
There’s ample crockery & cutlery for 12 settings.
The dining area has a large oak table and
benches that easily seats eight people or more.
Upstairs on the mezzanine is a comfy day-bed
settee with pull out bed and a 2/3 seater settee
giving perfect viewing of the TV, Playstation
(bring your own games!) and DVD player
complete with a library of over 200 DVDs. There
is also a wireless internet connection, should you
feel the need to contact the outside world.
The beamed master bedroom upstairs is a haven
of tranquillity, with French furniture complete
with a large 5ft double bed. There’s an en-suite
shower room with luxury contemporary fittings.
There are two further beautiful
light
and
airy
bedrooms
downstairs – a double and a twin
– both with ample storage.
Also downstairs is the family
bathroom, again fitted with luxury
contemporary fixtures & fittings.
Outside in the extensive one acre
well maintained grassed garden
there is a small but adequate
swimming pool, a secluded patio
for relaxing, with a table that
seats eight and a barbecue for al
fresco cooking and dining.
Ty Griffett is a NO SMOKING

Out & about . . .
y Griffett is in a very rural
and quiet location, yet only
five minutes from the local
supermarket and patisserie, and
10 minutes from the nearest
town of Pontivy; a beautiful little
market town on the river Blavet,
with a market on Monday
mornings. Pontivy old town is
beautiful, complete with
picturesque timber buildings,
cobbled streets with some very
interesting little shops and
restaurants.
There are markets in just
about every town in the area
so it would be possible to go
to a different one every day
and buy your cheese, bread,
meat, fish or simply to have
a nose at the niknaks.

Vannes is the closest seaside
town about 40 minutes drive
away. A beautiful old town again
with timber houses, wonderful restaurants,
shops and a harbour. The beaches are outside of
town; some are sandy and some small rocky
coves.
There is so much history in the area it is
impossible to list it all, so here’s a few tasters:

A very interesting church at St Nicodem
•
Chateaux at Josslin, Pontivy,
Largoet, Sarzeau.
•
Lavoir in Baud and Vannes where people
did their washing in days gone by.
•
Medieval town of Montoncour.
•
Zoo at Pont-Scorff.
•
Lac au Duc Plomerel, a lake for sailing,
canoeing, picnic spots, walking in the woods.
•
Port St Louis Museum
of the French India Company.
•
Lorient WWII U-boat base.
•
Carnac ancient stones/megaliths.
•
Lots of shops!
Closer to home it is possible to rent canoes on
the Blavet or the local canal; go horse riding;
fishing; play golf; tennis; rent bicycles or walk in
the many woods and forests – all within an easy
drive around the area; or of course just stay at
home and relax in the garden.
AND, just visiting all the lovely old towns in the
region – Dinard, Rennes, Vannes, Jossalin to
name but a few – are all well worth a visit for
their history, architecture, markets, restaurants
with two hour lunches, bars with local wine,
shops – oh so many shops (leave the men in the
bar!) and obviously the whole ambiance of the
French way of living. You will not regret
taking some time out at Ty Griffett.
