“Fran weaves melodies and lyrics that
gather community and invite the Holy
Spirit into the soul through laughter,
gentle rhythms, and foot-stomping
beats alike. What I appreciate most is that
his music is deeply rooted in both Christian
tradition and theology and speaks of a God
who knows us and loves us in the diversity
of our human experience.”

PRODUCER/TEERIVANE STUDIOS
WORKSHOPS
Fran has developed lively, engaging and
adaptable workshops to help meet the
changing musical landscape within the
Episcopal Church. Working with praise
bands, choirs and music directors, these
sessions are designed to cover a variety of
topics and concerns;
* finding and introducing new material
* group dynamics
* sound equipment
* community building and presentation
Workshops often begin with an experiential
and playful exercise that encourages
listening and creativity, then move into
areas specifically addressing the concerns
and needs of the group.
Fran’s philosophy as a producer?
“Very simply, I would use "midwife" as a
metaphor. The midwife has a relationship
with the person who's doing the birthing,
guiding them through the difficult, painful
parts, helping them learn to push themselves, not pushing for them. Helping to
create a safe, relaxed environment with the
best support possible so that the artist, in
this case, can give birth to something they
will be thankful for..something that is representative of the very best they can offer. To
then share in and celebrate the joy and,
most importantly, recognize that you [the
producer] are just a helpmate in this
project...it's the artist, the process and the
finished recording that ultimately must walk
out on their own.”
They have been very helpful for parishes
wanting to incorporate newer music into
their worship experience. Typically, they
require a morning and afternoon time frame.
TEERIVANE STUDIOS
PARISH RETREATS/CONFERENCES
Fran is also available as a keynote speaker
and conference leader for parish retreats
and diocesan/provincial conventions.
Incorporating song and story, large and
small group discussion, ample time for
process and reflection, Fran draws on his
love for community building in these events.
An intergenerational concert is usually
offered, as well.
At Teerivane the goal is simple: help artists
achieve the dream they walk in the door
with...and more. We recognize that each
artist is unique, with varied needs, experience, expectations, skill level, hopes, and
budget. We want artists to have a fulfilling,
comfortable, exciting and rewarding time
while working on their projects. Our
thoughtfully designed studio helps create an
environment that instills confidence and
inspires creativity and productivity, amidst
some of the most beautiful scenery in
western North Carolina.
BIOGRAPHY...
Fran McKendree was born in Springfield,
MA. He grew up in rural Connecticut where
he began to play guitar and very reluctantly
sing. In high school, a trio he’d joined won a
local talent contest, first prize being a slot
on a folk music radio show, and he was
hooked. He began his professional career
playing at coffee houses in and around
Syracuse University, and after moving to the
Glens Falls area of NY in 1969, formed
‘McKendree Spring.’ This ensemble toured
with some of the most exciting artists of the
70's, sharing the stage with performers such
as Fleetwood Mac, Elton John, and Van Morrison, playing various memorable venues as
well, including Carnegie Hall, the Fillmore
East, and the Kennedy Center.
In the late ‘70s, Fran heeded the call to
change direction and take some time for
reflection. He and his wife, Diana, joined
the Episcopal church, and Fran began to
work with a youth group, quickly discovering that music was an important part of that
relationship. He was soon invited to participate in provincial gatherings which led to
working with the church on a national level.
He has continued to explore his calling,
going on to coordinate and provide music/
worship leadership for conferences, retreats,
and national gatherings, General Convention and Fresh Start, among others.
Fran remains awed by the journey that has
unfolded, writing; “my hope is to remain
thankful for and receptive to the movement
of God in my life, and to do this in a humble and energetic manner, celebrating our
differences and similarities as creatures of
God and remembering always that we are
called to actualize our faith in the world
around us.”
