Morrison Center Expands to Wells
For the first time in our 60+ year history, Morrison Center has expanded its services to further meet the needs of the residents of York County by opening a new campus in Wells,
Maine. Due to an increased demand for services, the uncomfortable travel time for many
of the York County children and adult clients we serve, and a lack of educational and therapeutic resources for individuals with disabilities in the area, Morrison Center is thrilled to
now offer facilities and programming in that region.
Just like our programs in Scarborough, our new Wells
Center will offer an unwavering commitment to each individual’s needs; educational, therapeutic, habilitative and
recreational offerings; and a highly skilled team of educators, therapists and direct-care professionals.
Prominently located at 526 Post Road (Route 1) in Wells,
we are very excited about the opportunities this location
will provide. One exciting aspect is that the property has
eight acres—which will give
the Center room to expand if necessary to meet future
needs in York County.
Staff at the new facility include special education teachers
ed techs, a team of therapists and an on-site registered
nurse, as well as direct support professionals (DSPs) to support the growing adult day program. The new Center offers
a range of diverse programs including: an integrated preschool and childcare, a K-12 special purpose school, specialized support programs for adults, case management and
a variety of therapy services.
After much anticipation, and a great deal of dedication
and hard work from staff and board members, our
new Wells location officially opened for services on
Monday, October 7th.
We encourage you to follow our progress on Facebook and our website—or stop by for a visit. We also
invite all to celebrate this milestone by attending an
Open House scheduled for Wednesday, October 30th
from 3pm-6pm!

Remembering Jack Conley
On September 19th, under a clear blue sky of beautiful, late summer weather, Morrison Center celebrated the life of Jack Conley with the dedication of a new gazebo on our Scarborough Campus. The gazebo
was made possible by a very special memorial gift from the
family of Jack Conley. Jack was a long-time participant in the
Seedling Program and passed away nearly 2 years ago. There
were lots of laughs—and a few tears—as members of Jack’s
family, along with Morrison staff, shared fond memories and
stories. Guests enjoyed cider and donuts, as well as the music
of Celtic Harpist Julie Selser. The fully accessible gazebo will
allow consumers and students to enjoy being outdoors during
the fall, spring, and summer months. A heartfelt thank you to
the Conley family for this wonderful tribute!

20th Annual “Shot in the Dark” Golf Tournament a Success!
Friday, September 6th marked the 20th Anniversary of Morrison Center’s “Shot in the Dark”
Golf Tournament. In keeping with tradition, this unique evening and fundraiser was held at
the beautiful Purpoodock Club in Cape Elizabeth. We were thrilled that the weather once
again cooperated and provided a cool, clear night (relatively bug-free!) for the Center’s biggest fundraiser of the year. The evening kicked off with a putting contest and social hour, followed by dinner and a spirited auction that included Celtics, Patriots & Nascar tickets, a stay at the Chebeague Island Inn, a Sugarloaf golf get-a-way, and a Thos Moser rocker to name
a few of the fantastic items. This year, close to 100 people attended,
including 14 teams of golfers who braved the dark course equipped
with flashlights and glow-in-the-dark golf balls. Because of the generosity of many donors, sponsors, golfers and attendees, the evening
raised over $18,000 for Morrison Center programs & activities!
