Two internationally-known breeders of King Charles Cavalier Spaniels, PINECREST CAVALIERS, put on an all-day gathering of several dozen Cavalier-owners in the area. It’s a chance to show off the size, intelligence, beauty, and many other attributes of their dog(s). There’s always a silent auction and for the past seve r a l ye a r s , G a i l a n d Ke n Brown have donated a large bottle of wine for the fundraiser; the money goes to the rescue fund for this breed. This year’s bottle, will be a great and tasty memento of a day with a bunch of wonderful people and their beautiful dogs. Another breeder in attendance was the high bidder and got the 2007 threeliter bottle of Spanish wine. On the next page are more photos of the bottle and a bit about how the image of the dogs gets on these bottles every year. And although the bottle’s title at the top could have been done by hand, with the drill, the words for this one were set on the computer and a local sandblasting firm because of Ken’s heavy workload at the time the bottle was obtained from a local wine distributor. Gail Brown did the original artwork of the dogs with pen and india ink on white paper. That art was then converted to a special stencil used for sandblasting. Once her artwork was etched into the bottle, she took the drill and refined some of the fine lines and added others. Once the image was crisp and complete with her touchup, she added gold highlights with a tiny brush and gold paint. The brilliant color added a TOP Gail at her table beginning the gold highlighting of the etched images. The identical artwork was etched on two bottles...one for the silent auction and the other as a gift to the hosts of the FUN MATCH. BOTTOM The paintbrush has but a few very thin hairs. This time, two bottles were produced. The Browns donated the bottle shown below, with a special inscription on the front, to the owners of PINECREST CAVALIERS, Ted and Mary Grace Eubank, in appreciation of their tireless work in the breeding, showing, love, and publicity they give these incredible dogs. The illustration was on the back of this bottle. The two in the artwork are GUS on the left and MAX on the right. They are 3 and 5 years old respectively and belong to Ken and Gail. At Ken’s Engraving Seminars in October and November, students will learn the details of the process and how it can work for their own customers, family, friends, and special events.
