How to use this flyer
Below are 13 typical Dutch points of interest displayed. Behind each name is the address
and, when relevant, the opening hours shown. To find the location, we have put a
direction on the right that you see displayed scattered around the city. On this sign
are the names that direct you (close) to your chosen location. Simply find and follow
(one of) these directions and you will reach your destination soon.
1.Windmill (Korenmolen) De Gooyer Funenkade 7, daily 15.00 - 20.00
De Gooyer is an octagonal tower mill from 1725 and served as a flour
mill. Nowadays brewery Het IJ is situated in the mill. Try to say
‘Repelsteeltje’ 10 times in a row after a couple of home made
Columbus beers.
2.Royal Palace (Koninklijk Paleis)
Nieuwezijds Voorburgwal 147, daily 11.00 - 17.00
The Royal Palace on the Dam Square is one of the three palaces in
use by the Royal family. It is used for state visits, award ceremonies
and other official receptions. When the Royal Palace is not used by
the family, it is open to the public. Here you can discover the rich
history of ‘de Oranjes’ (‘the Orange family’).
3.Typical Dutch dishes at restaurant Haesje Claes
Spuistraat 273 - 275, daily 12.00 - 22.00

you can eat typical Dutch dishes, like ‘stamppotten’. These are
traditional Dutch dishes made of mashed potatoes with a vegetable,
served with sausage, bacon and loads of gravy.
4.Historical Museum (Amsterdam Historisch Museum)
Kalverstraat 92, daily 10.00 - 17.00
The Amsterdam Historical Museum tells the compelling story of the
growth and heyday of the Dutch capital. Discover seven centuries
of the city’s history by the numerous mind boggling masterpieces.
5.Cheese (kaas) at Proeflokaal Reypenaer Singel 182, daily 11.00 - 17.00
The ripening process (rijpen) of the Reypenaer cheeses is unique
in the Netherlands. In the cheese tasting rooms you can personally
test several Reypenaer Cheeses. Talk about a challenge!
6.Poffertjes at De Carrousel Tweede Weteringplantsoen 1
Resembling small, fluffy pancakes, poffertjes are made with yeast,
buckweat and flour. These warm little treats are prepared in a
special cast-iron pan. Served by the dozen, with butter and icing
sugar (‘boter’ en ‘poedersuiker’), you are in for a real Dutch snack!

Discover Amsterdam Typical Dutch
The City of Amsterdam installed a new way-finding system aimed especially at the
happy pedestrian. The system helps you find your way fast in the touristic area inside
and around the city centre. In this flyer you will find a wide variety of typical Dutch
traditions. A must-see, must-do and must-taste for everyone who visits Amsterdam and
wants to go Dutch. Besides common destinations we picked out some treasures for
you, all of which are reachable by foot. Discover the local specialties and do like
Amsterdammers do! We wish you fun walking!
7.Café De Gouden Florijn Rozengracht 28
In search for a typical brown café? Look no further than cafe De
Gouden Florijn (The Golden Florin). Crossing the doorstep warps
you back in time in this old fashion Amsterdam pub. See local
Amsterdammers sip their jenever (gin), sitting at their carpeted
tables surrounded by reminders of the local soccer team (Ajax).
Also good for a cheap and no-nonsense Dutch meal.
8.Geels & Co Nederlandse Koffiebranderij
Warmoesstraat 67, Saturday 14.00 - 16.30, tel. +31 (0)20 - 624 06 83
This is a coffee and tea roasting house and museum in one!
Coffee and tea tasting sessions in groups are possible on request.
The shop has been in existence for 140 years and is a great
example of the many shops that sold the coffee and tea that was
imported by the Dutch colonial traders from VOC and the WIC
from the 17th century onwards.

9.Ricetable at restaurant Selecta
Vijzelstraat 26, Tuesday, Thursday till Sunday 12.00 - 21.30
Amstelveen
For several ages Indonesia was a former Dutch colony. Herbs and
spices from the archipelago were imported. Later on the traditional
Indonesian ricetable (rijsttafel) also found it’s way to the Netherlands.
Since then the Dutch eat it at least twice a week.
10.Sandwiches (broodje) at Van Dobben
Korte Reguliersdwarsstraat 5 - 9, Monday till Thursday 9.30 - 01.00,
Friday and Saturday 9:30 - 02:00, Sunday 11.30 - 20.00
This lunchroom has a basic interior but superb sandwiches. Here
your taste sensation reaches the ultimate. Favorites are broodje
halfom, broodje bal and broodje warm vlees and the Van Dobben
croquette is famous far beyond the city limits.
11.Canal Cruise near Central Station
Cruising along the canals is a real journey of discovery. The boats
take you on a trip past stately canal houses, colourful houseboats,
the canal with seven arched bridges, the Dutch East Indies Company
replica ship and much more.
12.Willet-Holthuysen Museum Herengracht 605, daily 11.00 - 17.00
The Willet-Holthuysen museum in Amsterdam had an interesting
start. In 1895, Mrs Willet-Holthuysen bequeathed her 17th-century
canal house to the city of Amsterdam in her will, on the condition
that it was preserved and opened as a museum. Her wish has
been faithfully observed for over a century - the house has been
turned into a beautiful museum.
13.Old Dutch Candyshop 2e Egelantiersdwarsstraat 2
Sweet nostalgia can be found here in the shape of large glass jars.
Paper triangle bags are dexterously overloaded with liquorice,
caramels or polka pastilles - in fact any number of different kinds
of sweets and liquorice. No self-service here; instead good
old-fashioned service.
