Principal’s Letter
Dear Johnson Families:
Thank you to our community for supporting our Turkey Round-Up. We had over 100 turkeys
to give to the foodbank. I think the strong advertising our student council did is part of this
success. You all will recall the group of 3rd graders with their Turkey signs every morning.
They were quite a success. I did enjoy their passion for the job – each day they added a new
turkey prop. Thank you for attending our Veteran’s Day Assembly, for stopping by our Book
Fair, and taking a moment to attend our Grand Lunch. It is always nice to see community
members and families enjoying the events we offer. I also want to thank all the kindergarten
and preschool families who took time out of their busy schedules to attend parent-teacher
conferences.
As we head into the holiday season, we are in the midst of our Stuffed Animal Drive. We are
collecting new stuffed animals this year as some will be donated to children who are currently
in the hospital and some will support Rocky Mountain High School’s Adopt a Family program. Please consider bringing in a stuffed animal for these children and families. Again this
year, Nathan Woodall is heading up this event. This collection project ends on December 4th.
As we begin our cold season, we have a few reminders for all families:

through our stop sign which is always a bit alarming and can be very dangerous. For
pedestrians, please allow the person with the stop sign to acknowledge you and then
cross. Sometimes we have let many cross and the cars get impatient. We try to have a
balance between pedestrian traffic flow and car traffic flow.
5. If you bring your non-school age children to school when dropping off older brother or
sister, please be mindful that our playgrounds are not designed for very small children.
We have had a few instances that our very small friends are playing on equipment that is
beyond their skill level and this poses a safety issue for them. Also, our staff are on duty
for our students and are not on duty for the smaller children. We believe this is the
parent’s responsibility.
Thank you for helping us maintain a safe campus for all.
As we look ahead to the New Year, January brings our school of choice season. The school
choice process has changed, so please make sure you are in the know about this process.
We have our usual kindergarten open house (please see website for this date), but we will
not have our usual all school open house as we primarily had kindergarten families in
attendance. Instead, we are offering families in upper grades that chance to tour our school
and find out more about Johnson. If you know of a kindergartener or a family who is
interested in Johnson, please have the contact the school directly.
In closing, have a restful, joyful break with family and friends. We will see you in 2016!
Happy New Year,
Georgie Dawson

Dear Johnson Family
It’s that time of the year when our hearts start to warm to thoughts of upcoming holiday fun
and also recall some of our fond memories of years gone past. In an effort to help our
Johnson families make some of these memories this year, we will be continuing our Giving
Tree fundraiser challenge this year. The details are as follows:
Week of November 23rd—Johnson’s male staff members (we are few but mighty) will
“weigh in”. Each male staff members weights will be added together to come up with a
grand total for students to try to match.
Week of November 23rd thru December 18th- Students in grades K-2 will compete with
students in grades 3-5 to try to match the weight of their spare change with combined weight
of Johnson’s Mighty Male Staff (JMMS).
On December 18th, the winners (K-2 or 3-6) will be announced!!!! As a reward for their work
the following prizes will be offered: The grade levels with the most contributions will earn
20 minutes extra recess! Additionally, as a consolation prize this year if the runner up
matches JMMS weight we will be giving 10 minutes of extra recess!
Most importantly, we use this money to help our families that have a need and the students
learn to give back to those around them. Any money given goes directly into Johnson’s
“Giving Tree” fund and is only used to help Johnson families. Thanks so much for
supporting this effort!
With Love,
~Mr. Allen, Johnson School Counselor
FIRE Drill – December 3
Johnson Elementary will be practicing a FIRE Drill on December 3 at
11:00 a.m. Students are very familiar with this drill. We wanted
parents to be aware so that you will not be concerned if you see the
children exiting the building and hear the alarms.

Lights! Camera! Christmas!
Grab your cameras! We’re making a movie about the one and only
Santa Claus, but what style of movie fits the greatest elfin hero of
all time? Thanks to a little help from Cecil B. DeGrille, Alfred
Pitchfork, Steven Reelberg and a few other illustrious filmmakers,
a young group of aspiring directors experience movie-making like
never before…from Epic extravaganza and Film Noir to Spaghetti
Western and super-hero-adventure film. Watch out, Hollywood!
Join our 3rd and 4th graders for this year’s Winter Program,
Wednesday, December 9th, 7:00 p.m., at Rocky Mountain High
School Auditorium.
Jingle Bell Jukebox…The Flip Side!
Please be our guests for the annual Thunderbird Choir Christmas
program, Tuesday, December 15th, 7:00 p.m., in the Johnson
gym. We will sing many of your favorites and we just might ask
you to sing along! We will host a holiday cookie reception in the
flex room following the singing!
The Thunderbird Choir traveled to the Ft. Collins Senior Center
on Thursday, November 19th, to sing for their Thanksgiving
luncheon. You can be proud of your hard-working young
singer! They were greeted by a most appreciative audience!
Congratulations to this year’s Honor Choir members! Eva Abbott, Lindsay David, Trace
Fondy and Cameron Gartzka will join other outstanding singers in the district in February
for the annual Honor Choir concert at Lincoln Center.
Thank you to all who attended our 5th grade Fall program. We are excited to announce that
$46.05 was collected in our drums to be added to the project to assist a school in
Uganda. That’s a lot of quarters!

Hot Chocolate and Caroling
Join us for Hot Chocolate and Caroling on Friday, December 18th
before school! The Johnson Staff will provide Hot Chocolate for
all students and join them in singing some traditional Holiday
songs from 8:45 – 9:00 a.m. on the South Side of the school near
our new outdoor classroom. Come join us! NOTE – No Climbing
Club on this morning.
It’s That Time of Year….Chapped Lips/Dry Skin
Many students are visiting the Health Office due to dry/chapped lips, or dry skin. Feel free
to send lotion/lip balm for your student to keep in their backpack/desk to prevent dry lips/
skin. Please make sure and label it clearly with his/her name and ask them not to share
(possible allergies).
Check the Lost and Found
Any article found on the school grounds can be turned in to a
teacher, the office, or the Lost-and-Found shelves/hooks located
in the halls near the cafeteria and gym. In order to ensure that
lost articles are returned to their rightful owners, the student's
name or phone number should be sewn or marked on sweaters,
coats, lunch boxes, etc. Parents are encouraged to assist their
students to be responsible for their own possessions. Quite often,
individuals placing items in lost and found do not know the
owner and may not be a staff member or student.
Over the course of the school year, several announcements are made asking students to
please check the lost and found for their personal items. Remaining unclaimed items will
be donated to local charities in late December (prior to holiday break) and early June
(prior to summer break).

Fund Run Update!
With Johnson exceeding our fundraising goal, Mrs. Dawson and Mr. Boese took a
monster slime bubble bath during the Halloween Parade. Thank you to both for being
such great sports and enjoying some gooey fun!
Thank you to all our volunteers in making the 2015 Fund Run such an amazing event
and thank you our wonderful Johnson community and their families and friends who
donated so generously! Our Grand Prize winner was Cooper Frank from Mrs.
Hallisey’s class who won the Summer Membership to Westfield Pool! As most of you
know, Westfield Pool is an essential part of our neighborhood and plays a huge role in
enriching the community we call home and creating summer memories for our families.
We appreciate Westfield Pool's generous donation that helped us reach our fundraising
goals, allowing JPTO to continue to enhance the quality of experience that we offer at
Johnson. Congratulations to Mrs. Hallisey’s class who won the bubble party and Mrs.
Steinle’s class who won the silly string party as class participation prizes.
We would also like to acknowledge these local
