GENERAL DESCRIPTION: This is a professionally designed and built barge of welded steel construction throughout having a raked stem forward, raked transom stern, and hard chines. The primary intended purpose of this barge is for the manufacturing of ice for delivery to fishing boats and as a dispatch and accommodation platform. ICEBERG BAY – September 7, 2006 – Page 3 Below the main deck forward is the forward rake which is void space. Along both sides of the barge aft of forward rake are three spaces on each side. The first on both sides are void space. The number two space on starboard side houses the pumping arrangement and domestic water requirement for the barge. Next aft to starboard is void space then after rake. Along port side aft of forward rake are three spaces, which are void spaces the after one can be used as sewage holding tank. The barge is further divided between the outboard voids into six fresh water storage tanks with a reported capacity of 50,000 imperial gallons each for a total of 300,000 gallons used for ice making and domestic supply. Following the tank and void arrangement is the after rake that is divided longitudinally by a bulkhead and watertight door. The aft rake is used to house hydraulic power pack, air compressor, water maker and general Bo’ son’s stores. On the main deck forward are two hydraulic anchor recovery winches located port and starboard of centre with on deck fairleads. Each is equipped with a 3000 Lb. Navy style anchor with 1-1/4 “ wire rope rode and 1” studded chain. Mounted between the anchor winches is crew accommodation which is prefabricated aluminum sided portable structure which is D.M. INDUSTRIAL TRAILER SALES and is 8’ x 16’. Serial No. 881688172/88168313 manufactured June 1988. This unit is transversely mounted and is permanently affixed. Inside this space to starboard are two bunks against the forward bulkhead and a table against the after bulkhead. To port is an enclosed head with toilet currently being used as storage. The space is heated by electric baseboard heaters. To port outboard of anchor winch is vented collection box for water stowage venting. Next aft to port is a hydraulically operated single boom deck derrick having single drum winch. ICEBERG BAY – September 7, 2006 – Page 4 Starboard of amidships is an aluminum fish buying station lying along longitudinal axis. Having a receiving hopper forward where fish is pumped to and then dumped onto conveyor where it is sorted manually into six sorting boxes, electronically weighed and then with pneumatic hoist dumped onto conveyor where it is routed to a transverse mounted conveyor for transhipping to waiting boat. At the after end is an enclosed Tally shack containing two weighing scales and the pneumatic controls for operating the buying station. An aluminum framed and fabric covered shelter atop the buying station offers weather protection during operation. Immediately to port of the buying station is an electric motor driven TRANSVAC vacuum / pressure pump for unloading of fishing vessels and discharging into the buying station hopper. ICEBERG BAY – September 7, 2006 – Page 5 Next aft of the TRANSVAC pump is electrically driven 3 inch self priming centrifugal pump for water return to vessels and has the capability to be used for deck and wash down hoses. Next aft is the deck mounted diesel fuel tank welded transversely and is divided into two tanks each with a reported capacity of 6,000 gallons each. These tanks service the barge generator requirements. Mounted atop of the main fuel tanks to port is a 2,000 Imp. gallon round TIDY TANK style fuel tank used as reserve fuel for the barge and has transfer capability to other vessels via hose and nozzle with gallonage meter. Next aft follows the main cabin structure which houses the single ice holding bin that that has a reported capacity of 150 tons of ice in 24’ wide x 48’ long x 12’ high insulated and plywood covered area. A conveyor type ice rake that can be raised and lowered via motorized and cable lifting arrangement sits atop the ice and by way of reversible electric motor can level the ice and move it in either direction away from ice makers or aft toward the delivery augers. Along the starboard side of the space outside of the actual holding bin is a companionway running the length of the space. There is a transverse breezeway at the after end of the bin area which houses a double set of ice augers which carry ice to the ice auger mounted in the breezeway where it is then lifted then dumped into a blower pump and is then blown through pipes to the single discharge point. Two fan forced refrigerated evaporator assemblies mounted in the companionway near the top of the ice bin circulate cold air in the bin to hold ice at near zero degree Fahrenheit. To starboard aft of amidships on the main deck is a raised hatch with watertight man hole that is access to the starboard number two void where the pumps for water transferring are located. Following the ice bin area is the machinery space and then following is the open deck space aft with single hydraulic anchor winch with wire rope rode, studded chain and 3,000 Lb. Navy style anchor. ICEBERG BAY – September 7, 2006 – Page 6 Atop the ice bin is the main accommodation space that is a permanently mounted, aluminum sided modular structure manufactured by D.M. Total fuel capacity reported to be 14,000 Imperial gallons. REFRIGERATION: DESCRIPTION OF ICE MAKING AND HOLDING SYSTEM: Fresh water from the below deck storage tanks is turned into ice by two ice makers sitting in the enclosed space above the ice bins. Water is sprayed against the refrigerated drum in each ice maker where it freezes and is then scraped off by rotating scraper blades. The ice then falls into the centre of the ice maker down through the bottom of the ice maker into the ice holding bin that is housed in the raised deck house. Situated in the bin is a conveyor type ice rake that is raised or lowered via cable hoist assembly and is kept atop of the ice and is used to level the ice in the bin. When the ice is to be discharged, it is raked into a double worm ice auger hopper at the aft end of space. A series of worm type ice augers then carries the ice from the hopper along the starboard companionway forward and up to the hopper for the blower where it is transported by pipe to a second ice blower located in the machinery space. Ice is then carried to the discharge point located on the side of the house where it is blown through a flexible hose into waiting vessels. Ice is held and kept from melting in the foam insulated and plywood sheeted bin which has refrigerated forced air circulating units located at upper starboard side of the bin. - 4 times VILTER 10 cylinder freon R-22 compressors each driven by 50 Hp.
