DR. TIMOTHY ZIFER
CONDUCTOR
Welcome to our 64th Concert Season with
the Evansville Symphonic Band. As always,
I consider it a great honor to direct this
fine group of musicians. The Evansville
community should be proud and honored
to have such a rich, long-storied performing
ensemble who provides wonderful entertainment for Evansville and the Tri-State
community.
Holst are just some of the composers represented on this concert. Mr. Kim Fillingim
(ESB Music Director from 1997-2007)
will be on the podium conducting Festive
Overture. Our second concert is entitled
“Something New” and will feature newer
compositions for band. Although some of
this music may not sound familiar to your
ears I am sure you will enjoy these modern
compositions. “Something Red, White &
Blue” will provide music by American
composers as well as traditional patriotic
music and marches. Our final concert,
“Something Jazzy Just For You” is our
annual fundraising event, Big Band Bash.
This event will feature the ESB Big Band
as well as food vendors, a cash bar, dancing, and door prizes. This is our one and
only fundraising event and I hope all of
you make plans to attend. As you know,
government funding and grants have both
decreased and ceased through these tough
economic times.
Our 64th Concert Season is set to a
musical rhyme of sorts. The first concert
is entitled “Something Old” and features
arrangements and compositions from some
of the “giants” in music. Johann Sebastian
Bach, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Dimitri
Shostakovich, Percy Grainger, and Gustav
This concerts season contains a lot of
exciting music. I am sure “Something
Old, Something New, Something Red,
White & Blue, and Something Jazzy Just
For You” will entertain you this summer.
Thank you for supporting your Evansville
Symphonic Band.

Dear Evansville Symphonic Band Supporters,
I am very excited to welcome you to the 2011 Evansville Symphonic Band concert
season! Our conductor, Tim Zifer, has put together a terrific artistic program for
this year. The Board of Directors has worked hard again to continue our 64-year
history of providing fun, family-friendly concerts for your entertainment. We sincerely hope you enjoy tonight’s music!
Again this year, the Evansville Symphonic Band will host our Big Band Bash the last
Sunday in June – an evening of lively big band and swing music. The bash has become
a tradition of fun and great entertainment and is a great way to show your support for
the Evansville Symphonic Band! Many thanks to Larry Eifler and the Big Band Bash
committee for planning a terrific event.
Thank you for your support of the Evansville Symphonic Band and for joining us for
tonight’s concert!
Sincerely,
Elizabeth Jordan
