Haji Mohd Asri Bin Abdul HSN/GPM2013-2 INTRODUCTION Global Peace Mission (GPM) Malaysia is a non-profit NGO established under trusteeship laws of Malaysia, to attend to the aid of natural and man-made human calamities world wide. The name GPM was assembled on 26th September 2001 in an immediate response to the ordeal and sufferings of the Afghans under intense US military on-slaught and occupation. Previously GPM was already operating close to three decades of selfless service pursuing similar objectives as disaster relief funds under the auspices of the Muslim Youth Movement of Malaysia (ABIM). Albeit as an operating relief agency of ABIM. Hence, such names as Palestine Relief Fund, Bosnia Relief Fund and Iraq Relief Fund. GPM is under no illusion that quick-fix emergency solutions would suffix for each chosen or designated disaster area. Accordingly, GPM invariably stays on to help out with longer term objectives in education, economics, agriculture, health, community development and socio-economic empowerment programmes benefiting victims across the board – old folks income earners, women, youth and children. HSN/GPM2013-2 GPM had successfully distributed aids to more than 20 countries, such as: ● Afghanistan ● Albania ● Indonesia ● Iraq ● Laos ● Lebanon ● Sri Lanka ● Sudan ● Philippine ● Kosovo ● Chechnya ● Cambodia ● Uzbekistan ● Thailand ● Kashmir ● Palestine ● Burma ● Pakistan ● Timor Leste ● Bosnia Herzegovina HSN/GPM2013-2 RECOGNITION For it endeavors over the years, GPM have gained the trust and recognition of states, international relief organizations and peers, both local and international. The Malaysian government through its Foreign Affairs Ministry, in recognizing the GPM, allocated RM500 000 to prospered and developed ground-water reservoir on the slope of quake-stricken Merapi Mountain area at Desa Bumiharjo, Klaten, Central Java, Indonesia. The project was successfully completed and commissioned in late 2009. GPM, true to its objectives of focusing on and attaining world peace become one of the founder members of the Union of NGOs in the Islamic World (UNIW). Since 2006, GPM was assigned to lead UNIW’s commission on social, humanitarian and fraternity. In an open recognition of GPM’s long years of involvement in international emergency relief efforts, the Secretary general of the Organization of Islam Conference (OIC) welcomed GPM into the fold of OIC ‘s prestigious, Humanitarian Forum OIC (OICFM).
