Los Angeles County Fair in Pomona this summer)

JELLY BELLIES AND MORE JELLY BELLIES
We gave out our first awards of the year at our May 23rd meeting. Lots
of fun and lots of sweets for the good jobs that were done so far. I
remember the first time I worked on membership. I thought it would
be so easy but it takes time and patience and in the end the rewards are
worth the effort. Plus, it was challenging and lot of fun. Hopefully, the
next group of reports will have many more new members and some of
those renewals you have been trying to get.
Our winners in our first contest are:
For Most Renewals:
For Most New Members:
Category A: South Pasadena RWF North L.A. County RWF
Category B: San Pedro RWF
Santa Monica RWF
Category C: E. San Gabriel Valley RWF Whittier RWF
Category D: Palos Verdes Peninsula RWF Palos Verdes Peninsula RWF
All of the winners are enjoying Jelly Bellies as their reward. Sweets for
a sweet job well done. In November we will have the big awards. So
please keep working on those last renewals and capture as many new
members as you can. Most of you will be busy during the summer but
please keep sending in your per capita reports. Remember that the date
for submission is the 5th of the month to Sylva Martayan. Good Luck
and enjoy your summer. ~ Maria Michel

La Crescenta Valley RWF
We will host Wendy Borcherdt on June 12th at the beautiful La Canada Country
Club. Wendy will be sharing her experiences working with President Reagan
and his cabinet as well as some wonderful potential futures. July 19th is Cruise
Night in Glendale – although we don’t exactly cruise, don’t tell that to anyone
having a great time at our booth. Join us at the August 2nd Picnic in the Park ...
getting to better know our candidates for November. September 11th we return
to our regular meeting schedule – watch for future news of our fun and frivolity
at the Annual Garage Sale/Fundraiser on the 27th!! (Call or check our website
for details.) HAPPY SUMMER!! ~ Coral Weston
Long Beach RWF
It was great having President Patti and all of you in Long Beach for LA
County’s May 28 meeting! We had over 15 members and officers attend. June
14th former U.S. Congressman Steve Kuykendall joins our breakfast meeting
to tell us about the Fisher House Long Beach project, which will serve military
families on the VA Hospital Long Beach campus when it’s complete.
Involvement in this project is just one way to support those defending our freedom
during some of their most difficult and uncertain days. Judge Andrew Cooper
joins us July 12th to share how voting for competent judges helps to protect the
integrity of our judicial system. I know the judges forum last month was so
informative to our members that attended. August we will not meet, but will
keep busy with November election activities, nonetheless. ~ Tina Thompson

South Bay RWF
May was our last month to Meet and Greet candidates, and
we introduced three: John Wood for 43rd CD; Ted Grose
for 62nd AD; and John Tabakian for Torrance City Council.
In addition, Gary Aminoff of the 62nd AD Central
Committee, gave an excellent voter-friendly explanation of
the relevant facts of Propositions 41 and 42.
Our guest speaker was Byron Walls who gave us a brief
break from politics and delivered an amusing and
charismatic presentation of crime safety. He has been with
the Citizens Against Crime since 1980, and he certainly
knows how to instill the importance of being alert and
locking doors.
We gave out our 2014 Member’s Books and want to thank
Bonnie Terk for an outstanding job. She set up an entirely
new program which will also facilitate changes and
additions in less time. We also approved our nominating
committee, and Rosaline Turnbull and Connie Steffan
offered to prepare centerpieces starting in September.
Thank you to All!
In June we celebrate our 76th Birthday and honor all of
our past presidents who have done an awesome job for our
club. Last year we had a fabulous 75th Celebration, and
now we are gearing up for the next 75 years!

In addition to these two events, our guest speaker by
popular request, will be Dr. Barbara Stone. Dr. Stone is a
retired professor of Political Science at Cal State Fullerton
where she taught for 25 years. She will bring us up to date
on the Republican Party and offer humorous insights on the
elections. No more introductory words – You know who
she is!!
Please join us on Saturday, June 14, at 10:00 A.M.,
Doubletree Hotel in Torrance, when we will honor our past
presidents and scholarship winners and their families. This
is always an inspiring meeting. Call Gloria (310) 326-9340
for reservations. Enjoy your summer!! ~ Ginny Callanan
Whittier RWF
Whittier Republican Women are on the move again. We
recently purchased a beautiful collapsible Banner and a
Tablecloth that draws attention to our name at every event
we attend. We have been marketing our Club in the
community by going to Wake Up Whittier every month, a
Chamber Event. We also contribute to Charitable events
like the Back Packs for Kids in late August! So now we are
even more visible with our Banner and Tablecloth! Guess
what, we got the LA County Award for most new members!
Currently we are working on our two fundraisers! First one
is Quartermania on Friday June 6th at our regular monthly
meeting. Second one is Friday Evening August 22nd at the
Ritz Gardens Banquet Room with entertainment provided
by a Professional Magic Castle Magician! Final summer
project is the County Fair! ~ Lorie Dato
HHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
Fellow Patriots,
Congratulations to all the Republican Primary Winners!
NOW the real work starts for November!
Our county fair is coming up soon. Please email Susan Silvestri at [email protected] with the
dates that your club wants to work. The fair dates are August 29 to September 28. The fair is
closed Mondays and Tuesdays. We also appreciate all the clubs that have donated to the county
fair booth!! We are striving for an outstanding turnout at our fundraising event on June 22, 2014
at Bel Air Country Club.
We are inviting the Republican general election winners to attend the event. It will be an
excellent opportunity for all of us to meet these candidates!!!
Thank you to the Long Beach RWF again for the centerpiece donations for our meeting on
Wednesday. We are delighted that we had our county meeting in your backyard!
