LACFRW 2014
OFFICERS
Fellow Patriots,
As we have only a month before our primary on June
3, we hope all of our wonderful members are doing
their best to reach out to the Republicans of our county
to vote. We have some extremely deserving
candidates and our county and state desperately needs
their leadership.
We are having an event the afternoon of June 22nd
at Bel Air Country Club with the candidates that make
the general election in November. The funds raised
will be earmarked for the County Fair project. We
need to raise ten thousand dollars to meet this goal.
Please sign up now with Marie Cruz for this afternoon
event. Last year the County Fair had over 550,000
visitors. It is a “golden opportunity” for our party to have a presence.
Our next event will be the end of August on the 27th at the Santa Anita Golf
Course before we step up to the County Fair project at Pomona. Please help
Susan Silvestri fill up our days at the County Fair. You should hear from her
soon.
In the meantime we have our next Board Meeting at the Holiday Inn at
Lakewood in Long Beach. Please join us for that luncheon on May 28th.
We have compacted the meeting into two hours so that members that work will
have time to attend.
Remember our two initiatives are due May 15th. You will have some time to
collect more signatures. We have the opportunity to create an enormous
impact on the political scene here in California. Please help make it happen.
United for Victory 2014 and Happy Mother’s Day!

Arcadia RWF May 15 speaker
Long Beach RWF
Membership is on our mind, so May 10th we are hosting a membership
Mother’s Day Tea at the beautiful waterfront home of our 3rd VP Donna
Bennett. This is an annual favorite to bring in potential new members and this
year is even more special with CFRW President Roseann Slonsky-Breault
joining us. Our member, Stacy Mungo, saw VICTORY in our April 8th
primary nominating election for 5th District Long Beach City Council. We are
now working hard for her general election victory on June 3rd. She is running a
grassroots campaign while her opponent has police, fire and teachers’ union sup-
port. Volunteers are needed and you can make calls from
anywhere! Let me know if you can help. If elected, she will
be the only Republican on our nine-member City Council.
~ Tina Thompson
Manhattan Beach RWF
We have a busy spring! We will be welcoming at our May
17th meeting, conservative hollywood actor, Ned Vaughn,
who just finished filming the third and final installment of
“Atlas Shrugged” due out this summer. It will be
fascinating to get a glimpse of what it is like to be
openly conservative in the entertainment world. We will
once again be manning the California Republican
Assembly booth on Saturday, May 24th at Fiesta
Hermosa. That will be followed by our Yard Sale
extravaganza “Downton Attic/Season Two”. All details of
our events are posted at www.mbrwf.com
~ Rosalie Olson
North Hollywood RWF
Our Tuesday, May 13th speaker will be Susan Shelley,
the Republican candidate for the California Assembly in
District 45, the west San Fernando Valley. In last year’s
special election for this seat, Susan ran a grassroots
campaign and shocked the political world by getting 49.4%
of the vote, missing a victory by just 329 votes. We meet
at the Lakeside Golf Club, 4500 Lakeside Drive, Burbank
CA, 91610. Make reservations with Kathleen Marsden 818
385-180. Cost is $28. ~ Irene Metzger
South Bay RWF
We are very proud of two of our members, Joy Bliss and
Pam Corradi, who presented a Leadership Workshop and
Panel at the CFRW Spring Advocacy Conference in April.
Joy is also 2nd Vice of So. Div., and Pam is our CRP
Liaison. Congrats, Ladies, for an excellent presentation!
apogeehps.com
David Hadley was our guest speaker in April, and we also
heard other candidates: Elan Carr, running for Henry
Waxman’s seat in the 33rd CD and John Wong, running for
LA Co. Assessor. In addition, another two of our own,
Leilani Kimmel-Dagostino and Charlotte Svolos are
running for Torrance City Council.
In May we will have John A. Mirisch who is running for
Ted Lieu’s seat in the 26th Senate District, and you must
be sure to spell his name correctly as he is a write-in
candidate. You need to hear why he is a write-in, and then
you will definitely want to support him!! Lest we forget
our Military Heroes on Memorial Day, we will ask for
contributions for The Wounded Warriors and Fisher House,
two of our military charities. We are always thankful for
our brave Soldiers for their service.
In June we will have our annual Scholarship presentation
when we honor three winners and their families. In
addition, we are delighted to have Dr. Barbara Stone as
our guest speaker. This meeting is on Saturday, June 14, at
10:00 A.M., and you’re in for a real treat! Call Gloria for
reservations, (310) 326-9340. Please join us!!

KILLING JESUS
By Bill O’Reilly and Martin Dugard
The authors tell us this is not a religious book, but instead one that focuses on the
humanity of Jesus Christ. They have done a good job treading the fine line between
straight biography and religious writing. It is clearly stated this was not a ‘religious’ book,
rather an ‘historical’ work. Jesus is never called “Christ”. He is mostly referred to as “the Nazarene”.
The life of the Nazarene are the four gospels with which most readers are familiar. Interspersed with
these writings you will find chapters devoted to Julius Caesar, Cleopatra, Tiberius, and other historical
characters. There is a brief history of Rome, and short biographies of some of the figures, including
Pontius Pilate and the several Herods. The authors accept the gospel account of the birth in Bethlehem
and the visit of the Magi, which led to the slaughter of the infants in Bethlehem at the insistence of
Herod. There appears to be no historical record for these events except for the gospels, so the reader
either takes it at face value or not, depending on his or her beliefs.
This work was filled with the historical accounts of the geographical, political and
human events that were going on at the time. I believe this book can actually draw
Christians back to the Bible as they consider certain aspects and statements found
within. As with any study of history one must rely upon the research and intellect of
the writer. The research for this book was an amazing thing to read.
It must be approached with an open mind as any historical reading should be.
The reader is left with no doubt that Jesus’ whole life was leading to a cross and
that Jesus knew he would end up there. The reader sees that the claims Jesus made
about himself put him at odds with both the Jews and the
Romans which ultimately lead to his death on the cross.
As the book comes to a close they state that Jesus’ followers soon claimed he had
been raised from the dead and that his followers believed this to such an extent that
they willingly gave up their own lives to his cause.
On a personal note, I have ordered and received the children’s version of
Killing Jesus, The Last Days of Christ for my ten year old grandson for Easter.
He is so excited to start reading it.

Rear Admiral Alan B. Shepard Jr., was one of the Mercury
astronauts named by NASA in April 1959, and he holds the
distinction of being the first American to journey into space.
On May 5, 1961, in the Freedom 7 spacecraft, he was
launched by a Redstone vehicle on a ballistic trajectory
suborbital flight – a flight which carried him to an altitude of
116 statute miles and to a landing point 302 statute miles
down the Atlantic Missile Range. (and NOW we hitch a ride
into space with the RUSSIANS! Arrrrrgh!)
