Protection modules Component holder......................................................................................................................8 Protection modules...................................................................................................................12 NA0001 Component holder and protection modules A Over voltages crossing any electric network, from industrial installations to residential and domestic installations, may create serious damages to electrical and electronic devices as well as to installations and humans. These over voltages have transitory behavior and are most commonly originated by lightings, manual or automatic maneuvers over electric circuits and electrostatic discharges. The effects of these transitory high voltages might destroy electrical circuits and devices connected to them, so that the financial damage could be also very high. In addition to material losses production downtime might have also a very high impact financial-wise. Some examples of devices that could be damaged by the presence of high over voltages in the network are the following : - HVAC&R systems, - lighting systems, - telecommunications switchboards and installations, - SCADA systems, - computers, - alarm systems, - fire alarms and fire detection systems. An appropriate protection against over voltages and transient voltages shall eliminate problems related to these phenomena. For the purpose to eliminate all possible sources of over and transient voltages ABB have developed products combining different technologies embedded in the same product and synchronized between them to grant an efficient protection. These are gas discharger, varistor, ultra rapid voltage peak absorption diode, coil and resistance. Reaction time Current level Air discharger < 1 µs 75 kA 10/350 µs Gas discharger < 1 µs 5 kA - 10/350 µs 5/40 kA - 8/20 µs Varistor < 50 ns 1/40 kA 8/20 µs Peak limiting diodes < 1 ns 50/1000 A 8/20 µs Single or two-way < 1 ns 50/1000 A 8/20 µs Line protection With the aim to grant protection efficiently, ABB offers three different product families. Terminal blocks equipped with voltage peak absorption device This product is a very cheap solution when a complementary protection is required when the installation is already protected. If the existing protection has fine-tuned electronic devices then an additional primary element like (gas discharger) is enough. On the other hand, when the installation is only equipped with a primary protection, then a complementary fine-tuned protection is recommended (varistor or diode). NA0002 Component holder and protection modules Surge suppression protection for data network lines This product family combines several different protection elements offering a complete protection device granting as an output a wave signal acceptable by the devices to be protected. It is mainly applicable for the protection of all type of data network lines. kV V 12 10 8 6 4 2 0 600 500 400 300 200 100 0 0 20 40 ∝s 60 A V 0 1 2 600 500 400 300 200 100 ∝s 0 0 1 ∝s 2 Fine-tuned protection for feeder networks This product range is designed for use on low voltage networks in an industrial environment with the main objective of protecting this network up to 6A max. Its ideal application is for networks with isolated or impedance grounded neutral configuration. This fault is coming from electrical signal via a field sensor (limit switch, thermostat, threshold relay, etc.). The aims is to attract the attention of the supervising personnel by means of an illuminated signal and a klaxon, this enabling immediate action to be taken. The alarm sequences cover a vast scope, from industry to public sectors : - petrochemistry, - metallurgy, - naval construction, - food industry, - large stores, - hospitals etc. The majority of the possible logical processings are regrouped within the American standard ISA S18-1 (INSTRUMENT SOCIETY OF AMRICA). This standard defines the basic functioning of a sequence. Plug-in 14-pin connector on printed circuits. A removable cover protects the electronics. Easy to modify, maintain and extend. Terminal markers available (RC 610 marker) Easy maintenance, simplified reading of diagrams. exemple ▲ ▲ Snap-on socket for standard DIN rail Constitutes the fixed part. Employed in all types of industrial architecture; sockets can be mounted: - on DIN 1 rail - on DIN 3 rail - or screwed on plating Advantage: one type of sequence for open or closed contacts. Temporary disconnection of a sequence during maintenance, without desturbing the whole system. Alpha-numerical marking of jumper position a (1-2-3-4) b (1-2-3-4). ▲ ▲ Input/output connections directly on socket The sockets thus constitute an integrated terminal. Screw or quickconnect tab connection on terminals. Suppression of terminals in the equipment. Simplified wiring. - The busbars conduct the + and - polarity and establish cross-connection between blocks. Easy, time-saving mounting. - n'appropriate DIN 1 or DIN 3 end stop protects the end terminal B - An H-type insulator can be used to cut off a bustar. A D External field contact indication. Adjustment of time - threshold - flashing cadence By potentiometer accessible from the front. ▲ ▲ Common busbar for cross-connection bysnap-on busbars External selection of NO or NF contact Selection of jumper for out of circuit sequence testing position Fool-proof device 16 different blocks can be used in the same installation. Male side mounted on pluggable bloc Female side mounted on socket 37 N06002 Alarm sequences in Actibloc Alarm sequence wiring A wiring standard has been defined : - between plug-in blocks (internal interconnections), - between blocks and exterior (external interconnections). This standard wiring for any type of sequence used is described below. Access to busbar is possible as bridging is on front face of connecting block. Terminal giving access to the 14 busbars of the socket External connection ON 1SACDV CONNECTING BLOCK The 0 volt supply wire is connected to the terminal A (1) of the socket ; the positive Vdc is connected to terminal C (3) of the socket. These 2 polarities are distributed on 2 busbars (busbar 6 for 0 volt, busbar 4 for positive Vdc) by intermediary of bridgings 1-6 and 3-4 on the connecting block. The wire from the lamp test pushbutton is connected to terminal D (12) of the socket. The bridging 12-5 effects interconnection between D (12) and busbar 5. D The wire from the acknowledge pushbutton or the manual reset pushbutton (according to type of sequence) is connected to terminal F (14) of the socket. The bridging 10-14 effects interconnection between F (14) and busbar 10. Thus: ON 1SADCOM COMMON BLOCK Connection of klaxon at A (1) and B (2). Interconnections between terminals 1-2-3 of plug-in block and inputs A (1) B (2) C(3) of socket The wire from the klaxon off pushbutton is connected to terminal F (14). ON SEQUENCE BLOCK Terminals A (1), B (2) are reserved for fault inputs. Terminals E (13) and F (14) are reserved for outputs to signal lights. Internal connection By 8 busbars which establish interconnection between blocks. The standard assignment of busbars is shown opposite. Note 1 : The Actibloc socket provides for the passage of 14 busbars maximum. In this particular case, no screwed terminals will be available on the sockets. In the standard version (3V-3V sockets P/N 1SNI 621 532 R1300) the socket is equipped with 8 busbars maximum. In this case, 6 screwed terminals are available for external connections . Note 2 : Possibility of interlocking acknowledgement by klaxon off, by wiring. That is to say, the operator cannot acknowledge before stopping the klaxon. This allows recognition of transient faults. This interlocking is systematically represented in the wiring diagrams on the following pages.
