A Brief Introduction to Hotel Mocking Bird Hill Jamaica’s Hotel Mocking Bird Hill is a 10room, eco-chic hideaway nestled in 7 acres of gardens and forested areas on a hillside outside Port Antonio. It offers its guests a unique environmentally-friendly setting providing luxury boutique accommodation at a moderate price. It’s close to both town and beach and only a short drive from the waterfalls, tropical forests & beautiful coast with numerous examples of the coves and beaches that distinguish the North-East coast of Jamaica. With its many personal flourishes and original artwork, this informal hotel combines a contemporary, relaxed atmosphere with an old fashioned traditional charm that instantly allows guests to feel at ease. It’s all very informal, very laid-back Caribbean. The hotel’s ethos “guiltless indulgence” communicates its focus on providing comfort in a responsible fashion. It doesn’t simply provide luxury at any cost but concentrates on sustainable luxury. From its inception the hotel’s aim was to prove that a small business could operate successfully in a sustainable manner without placing undue burdens on the environment. Everything at Mocking Bird Hill is planned with nature and the local community at the forefront and it is managed with a dedicated concern for the environment and for promoting sustainable tourism. Mocking Bird Hill was one of the first hotels in the world to be certified as environmentally friendly. Hence no plastics among the room amenities; the stationery in the guest rooms is made from recycled paper by a women’s cooperative in a nearby village; the toiletries in the bathrooms are also produced locally. The hotel works directly with the bridal couple, listening to ensure that from the first to last detail of their vision their important day is realised, in a stress-free manner. Each wedding day that the hotel creates is individual, so that the couple and their guests feel that their wedding is an extraordinary event and not a shared package. The hotel believes an integral part of the day is that the couple’s personalities can be seen in those special little touches. For this reason Mocking Bird Hill never hosts more than one wedding per week. Fine tropical dining is provided by Restaurant Mille Fleurs, the hotel’s own restaurant that was recently voted Jamaica’s Best Kept Secret. Their speciality is in creating seasonal dishes that are a feast for all the senses. Food Miles are counted by using organic, island-grown ingredients delivered by small local and sustainable providers. Our chefs honour the effort and love they put into producing high quality food by creating some of the freshest gourmet flavours on the island, that are healthy too! Menus are crafted according to the taste preferences & budget of the couple. Whether it is intimate small wedding or large scale family affair, a wide variety of menu suggestions are presented to select from with the ability to cater for those with special dietary requirements in an equally interesting manner. All floral arrangements are designed using orchids from the Orchid farm and the tropical flowers that are grown in the pesticide-free environment of the hotel’s 7 acres of delightful bio-diverse gardens, which make the perfect spot for the happy couple to slip away for a quiet moment of togetherness, with just the delicate symphony of birdsong for company.
