showcase spectacular quality and

Wall to Wall shopping
The city is a shopper’s paradise with something to
suit everyone’s taste. We’ve high street stores, family
owned businesses, designer boutiques and markets all
within minutes of each other.
The city offers shoppers a shopping
experience that fuses the past to a
vibrant present. Visit the incredible
Foyleside and Richmond Shopping
Centres for all the best-known high
street names or take time to explore
the artisan shops of the hidden jewel
in Derry’s shopping crown – the classic
Craft Village.
The Craft Village has all the
characteristics of a bygone age and is
the ultimate refuge for startled visitors
seeking distinctive delights away from
the bustling city.
Derry is also home to Austin’s
Department Store – the oldest
independent department store in the
world which is renowned not only
for its high street fashion but for its
impressive range of Irish crystal,
giftware and linens.
Gateway to the
North West
Derry~Londonderry acts as an ideal hub from which you
can explore the beauty of the North West of Ireland.
The stunning Causeway coastal route
sweeps eastward from the Foyle
Estuary along the North Coast taking
in major visitor attractions such as the
Giant’s Causeway, Bushmills Distillery
and Carrick-A-Rede Rope Bridge.
To the South and East of the City is
the scenic Sperrins with its dramatic
landscapes and mountainous terrain
that is home to the Ulster-American
Folk Park.
The North West of the city offers the
rugged beauty of Donegal that includes
the spectacular Malin Head – Ireland’s
most northerly point located on the
picturesque Inishowen Peninsula.
Derry~Londonderry is the perfect
location to start your journey along
the ‘Wild Atlantic Way’ where you can
experience the untamed west coast of
Ireland, and start an adventure you’ll
never want to end.
A Top of the World Experience
When we stood at the tip of Malin Head,
Ireland’s most northerly point and breathed
in the fresh clean air, we felt like we
were on top of the World!

Fashioned in a neo-gothic style, the Guildhall is the city’s premier civic centre and one of the most
striking buildings in the North West. It was built in 1887 by The Honourable The Irish Society and
boasts stunning examples of stained glass windows which illustrate the intriguing history of the city.
Following extensive refurbishment the additional facilities now include a Tourist Information Point,
new exhibition area looking at the Plantation of Ulster, interpretation throughout the building, as
well as a café with outdoor space looking onto Harbour Square.

The Associated Clubs of Apprentice Boys of Derry is established for the purpose of commemorating
the anniversaries of the shutting of the gates and the Relief of the City. The Hall and Museum is
dedicated to the history and heritage of The Siege 1688 – 1689. The Memorial Hall (built 1873 and
extended in 1936) contains fine examples of meeting rooms for each of the Loyal Orders, while its
Museum contains artefacts and video presentations relating to the Siege of Londonderry and The
Apprentice Boys Association.
Due to renovation work taking place in 2015 - The Apprentice Boys Memorial Hall will be closed.

GASYARD HERITAGE CENTRE
Ashbrook has been family home of the Ash family since before 1595 - The Honourable The Irish Society
records the Ash family as 1 of only 4 ‘native land owners’ prior to the Plantation. It is set in 30 acres
of mature parkland on the outskirts of the city of Londonderry, the Maiden City, made famous by the
Ulster Plantations and the Siege of Derry. The Ash family is the only family who have lived in the same
house continuously. This is certainly unique in the North West.

Presbyterians have worshipped in the City since 1642. The first Church within the Walls, founded 1690,
was replaced by the present building in 1780. The recently restored Church, reopened May 2011, reflects
many uniquely 18th century Presbyterian features. The newly opened Blue Coat School Visitor Centre
to the rear of the Church develops themes such as the ancient links between North West Ulster and
Scotland, Defending Derry’s Walls, Spreading the Word and First Derry in the 20th century. Guided tour

THINGS TO SEE AND DO
These unique wall murals are located throughout the city and are
symbolic of the different communities depictions of life through ’The
Troubles‘: Three local artists Tom Kelly, William Kelly and Kevin Hasson
(known as the Bogside Artists) have created to critical acclaim throughout
the world The People’s Gallery in the Bogside area of Derry. It is a series
of large-scale murals depicting the key events in Northern Ireland since
‘The Troubles’. The famous wall-paintings are located on Rossville St and
they present a window into the politics, people and history of Northern
Ireland. The majority of the Bogside Murals reflect events that occurred
in the Bogside in the past and one mural – The Peace Mural looks to the
future with the idealist image of a dove. The Fountain Estate close to the
City Walls is home to one of the oldest King Billy murals with many murals
linked to the famous Siege of Derry in 1689. The Bond St area also offers
an extensive range of wall murals which are popular with visitors. If you
are interested in seeing more murals you will find many others throughout
community areas in the city.
