The average home sold in ‘07 was 1985 sq. ft., which increased in ‘08 to 2304. As of this writing, we have 23 homes for sale with the average days on the market at 63 days. Based upon the neighborhoods surrounding Plum Creek, we have continued to outperform them in regards to total sales, appreciation and desirability. As most of you know, we are experiencing a great deal of turmoil in the current economy and the effects show up quickly in the number of showings in the Kyle/Buda area. We always have a normal seasonal slow down in the last quarter of each year and this year will not be different. The bright spot for potential buyers or sellers is that mortgage money is readily available. On a personal note: With all the doom and gloom in the last 2 weeks, we must never forget who we are as people and where we live. Having been a self employed business man for 38 years, I have seen our great country and it’s people come back from many hardships. When the chips are down and things look the bleakest, we have risen to the great challenges of our time. Not the government, but “We the People”. As we watch this situation unfold, we will again pull together know- ing that we live in the greatest country in the world, offering the greatest opportunity to all and this, is what will continue to make us a great nation. We now have to opportunity to help you find others looking for the same things you are. We have recently started Toddler Time in Plum Creek and are looking for other ways to join our residents together. Some of the ideas that we are tossing around are starting up a volleyball league or having a few nights of “Nanny Speed Dating” to help babysitters find clients and help parents find sitters or maybe some BINGO day/nights. Some of the groups that we have started in the past have been, scrapbooking nights, bunko nights, bridge clubs, & book clubs. We are looking for more ideas~Please email me directly with your interest, [email protected]. I look forward to hearing from you soon! Kyle Trash Day Saturday, November 8th from 9AM to 1PM. Texas Disposal System brings in the trucks to clean up Kyle twice a year at Gregg-Clark Park. Usually, in May and November, from 9:00am to 1:00pm, you can toss your normal household waste into TDS’s dumpsters.Hazardous items such as oils, paints, batteries, tires, freon, chemicals and other similar items are not accepted. Televisions and computers will no longer be accepted. You have to unload your items into the dumpsters yourself. You have to have items unloaded by 1:00pm when TDS leaves the park. You must be a Kyle resident with verification like a driver’s license to show staff at event. Speaking of Trash.... Rocking Horse Academy’s dumpster has been getting dumped on. They are having a problem with people in the neighborhood thinking it’s okay to fill their dumpster with large, unwanted items. Recently, a large glass cabinet was dumped next to their dumpster and broken glass was scattered around the childcare facility - which costs the business and endangers the children. Please do your part to support our neighborhood childcare business and dump your unwanted items at Kyle trash day or the local dump. 8 OCTOBER 2008 Continued on page 12 ! ! ! ! ! ! How long have you been working in the Plum Creek area? I first launched Glamajama in 2003 out of a spare room in our house in Plum Creek. In 2004 I moved the office to a commercial space in Plum Creek Square. Recently we moved to a bigger location between Curves and Lucky Cup so we could have more room for a retail space. What made you choose the Plum Creek neighborhood for your business? As a proud Mom of three little ones ages 5, 3, and 2 it was VERY important for me to find a place I could work that was close to home and kid-friendly. It’s been absolutely wonderful having the house just a minute away from the office! Quick trips home for naptimes, lunch, or just to take a break are no big deal. Also, since my oldest started Kindergarten at Negley I love the idea of being able to walk with him to and from school. As a business owner, it’s been great to have so many other Moms in the area show their support for the business by shopping and working with us. I regularly work with “stay at home” Moms in the neighborhood that help me with producing and finishing the clothes. They can pick up the work one day, work on it from home while the kiddos are busy, and drop it off when it’s ready. I probably wouldn’t be able to be so flexible if I wasn’t in a neighborhood like Plum Creek. Do you see business increasing in the future? I certainly hope so! We’ll be opening the retail store November 15th, launching a new clothing line for toddler girls in the Spring of 2009, and we just launched our “BabyGlam” line at Target.com. Share a good experience you had doing business in Plum Creek? Our annual “warehouse sales” have always been a huge success. I’m amazed to see how many people show up to shop and that they’ve brought friends and family- thank you Plum Creek!!! Where do you see our neighborhood in terms of small businesses in 5 years? I think there will be tremendous growth in the amount of small businesses in the area. As the population and resources in Kyle grow, so do the opportunities. I’ve always been a huge supporter of small business and one of my “side projects” is being the Moms in Business Blogger for Startup Nation, a small business advice site/community, www.startupnation.com/blogs/index.php/author/hnolte/ . Small businesses are the lifeblood of America and I’m looking forward to seeing many more “mom & pop” stores in the area! Tell us a little bit about your business...
