The Hottest Hairstyles For Prom Or Wedding
Beauty Buzz:
Q. What are you seeing
as the hottest ways to do
hair for the prom or a wedding? I am in both in May.
A. According to trade
magazines here are the latest trends in formal hair:
The braid is all the rage
this year for everything
from weddings and proms
to beach wear. There are
loads of variations on the
braid with fun styles and
options. For a formal looking braid, tease the top to
give yourself some height

then pull your hair to the
side like you were going
for a side pony and make
your braid. The hottest
formal look for braids is
the fishbone braid; somewhat flat and similar to
a fishbone neck chain. A
professional stylist should
be able to give this to
you. A popular
variation on this
theme is the side
pony. This look
gets sleek if you
smooth over your bangs to
the side and add loose, not
tight, curls in the long free
hair. Be sure to still do the
tease and get height on top.
Commit To Get Fit:
A New Beginning... at Kim’s New Beginnings!
12 Weeks Completed... We Have A Winner!
Pat Frock - Fitness Trainer
Twelve weeks have
come and gone in the
Commit to Be Fit contest
sponsored by Springfield
Health and Fitness Center and Certified Personal
Trainers, Timothy Stephens and Pat Frock. The
staff of the Springfield
Paper had access to both
trainers and all classes
and facilities for the three
months.
Although several of
the contestants have made
great progress there can
only be one contest winner. At an amazing 40
pound loss in three months
is Allan Rea. Along with
a brand new, smaller physique Allen receives a year
membership at the Spring-
field Health and Fitness
Center.
One of the biggest reasons Allan was so successful is that he embraced the
new
lifestyle.
Allan gave up
his copious
amounts of
sugar in his
coffee and
started to eat
more healthy
meals. He
also did cardio training
every day.
He was a regular at Timothy’s 7:00am BodySculpt
Class.
Any time of day that
you will do it is good for
cardio training. The most
important thing is that you
will just do it. However,
many bodybuilders and
fitness models swear by
early morning cardio on
an empty stomach gives
them the edge. Although
it is somewhat controversial the arguments in favor
of early morning cardio
are these.
1. After an overnight
fast, your body’s stores
of glycogen are depleted
and you will burn more fat
when glycogen is low.
2. If you eat immediately before a workout,
you will have to burn off
what you ate
first
before
tapping into
fat stores.
3. Eating
causes a release of insulin which interferes with
the mobilization of body
fat. Less insulin is present
in the morning so more
body fat is burned when
cardio is done in the morning.
4. There is less carbohydrate (glucose) in the
bloodstream when you
wake up after the overnight fast. With less glucose available, you burn
more fat.
5. With cardio in the
morning, your metabolism
stays elevated for a period
of time after the workout
is over. If you do cardio
in the evening you burn
calories during the session
but fail to take advantage
of the after burn because

MOTHER’S DAY
For a more casual look the
half up style is still popular this year. Pull just the
top of your hair up and pin
it back then curl the back
in soft loose curls. The
classic up-do bun is never
out of style either. There is
always some trendy popular version of this style
and the classic
ballerina bun
will never be
out, especially
for brides. To
get the most
current trend
of the classic
try a side part.
If you have
straight bangs,
leave
them
down. Get the
teased up volume for the
top and then
work the back
into any version of a bun
you want. If
you can afford
a professional
stylist you will not regret
it. You can then relax and
let an expert do your hair.
Always remember that the
most important part of any
event is that you are comfortable. Choose a hairstyle that you feel good in
and then relax and have
fun!

Call For Body Reconditioning
Healthy Living
By Frank Miesse, Ph.D.
The Native Americans
of our early history sat for
days in a mud hut pouring water over steaming
rocks to purge their bodies
of unwanted winter toxins. Early Europeans used
mud packs and baths to
draw poisons out of their
systems believing this to
be a blood conditioner for
the new season. Many natives of the tropics fasted
on nothing but berries and
fermented juice believing
that springtime demanded
a cleansing ritual. By natural law, animal life does
it all, from shedding its
feathers, skin, hair, horns
and even regurgitating to
purge the internal organs
of unwanted accumulation
of poisons and debris.
The need to soften,
neutralize, and flush toxins from our bodies is required if better health is
to be realized. Liquids,
especially water are essential, and certain herbs raise
their heads in early spring
and beckon us to utilize
them to create a very natural cleanse.
Dandelion has long
been the food of many during spring and early summer to neutralize acid and
stir up poisons in the blood
and body. Being balanced
in natural sodium and calcium, plus many other
trace minerals, it seems to
balance blood pressure for
some and increases the energy level for many. During early American history
the dandelion was eaten as
greens and it strengthened
the blood and helped in
building the immune system while it acted as a fluid
mover. Dandelion stands
proudly in the spring with
its other weed-like friends,
yellow dock and burdock
as a powerful source of
iron and chlorophyll and
minerals that build strong
blood cells. Did you know
that the dandelion has a
molecular structure almost
identical to human blood
structure? It is also very
adaptable to most folks’
diets.
Many people in the
northern mountain country used other greens and
Regional Medical Center Auxiliary Board
plants such as Uva Ursi
(better known as wild cranberry) to purge the urinary
tract. Many believe this
herb has healing virtues
for the kidneys, bladder,
prostate and entire urinary
system. The herb is very
soothing and a pleasant
relief for those who retain
fluids and have problems
voiding water.
Some folks with arthritis believe Uva Ursi helps
reduce swelling, which
in turn helps to alleviate
pain. This is an herb often used with parsley and
alfalfa to support the freedom in joints and muscles
that have lost some of
their elasticity due to poor
dietary habits of excessive sugars and uric acid
foods such as red meats
and caffeine. Athletes will
also find these fine herbal
foods valuable because
their potassium-type qualities keep the cells wellbalanced and toned.
The need to study
herbs that help cleanse and
balance the body is important to every human being.
The need to condition and
detoxify the body periodically offers us a greater
opportunity for a healthier, happier life through the
NATURAL ALTERNATIVE.
Pictured is the newly formed Springfield Regional Medical Center Auxiliary
Board. The Auxiliary is the merger of the Mercy Medical Center and Community
Hospital Auxiliaries, which joined together effective January 1st.

Villa Springfield Health and Rehabilitation Center would like to congratulate
Mary Ellen on her recent graduation from our Homeward Bound Program!
Mary Ellen was admitted to Villa after having a total knee replacement. Upon her
admission she received strengthening, ADL, balance and range of motion therapy.
When she started her therapy program she required assistance transferring from
bed to chair and activities of daily living. She could walk 5 feet with walker, and
knee range of motion was 5-60 degrees.
After completing the therapy program, Virginia was discharged home, she could
independently transfer from bed to chair, perform her activities of daily living, and
walk 100 feet with rolling walker. Range of Motion in her knee had increase to
2-110 degrees.
Virginia had this to say about her stay at Villa, “I enjoyed being here and liked
everyone.”

Anxiety About Children’s Future Can Spoil The Present
FOCUS ON
THE FAMILY
Dr. James Dobson
QUESTION:
My
children are still young,
and they are doing fine
now, but I worry a lot
about the adolescent
years that lie ahead. I’ve
seen other parents go
through some pretty terrible things when their
teenagers began to rebel.
How can I help my sons
avoid that turmoil ten
years from now?
DR. DOBSON: The
apprehension that you describe is well-founded,
and many parents feel
something similar today.
The most important suggestion I can make is for
you to redouble your efforts to build good relationships with your kids
while they are young. That
is the key to surviving the
adolescent years. If they
emerge from childhood
with doubts about whether
you really love and care
for them, anything is possible during the turbulent
teens. Boundaries, restrictions and threats will be no
match for adolescent anger,
frustration and resentment.
As author Josh McDowell
said, “Rules without relationship lead to rebellion.”
He is right. That’s why
parents can’t afford to get
preoccupied with business
CAN-SPAM Act Affects
E-Mail Marketing Pt. 2
and other pursuits that interfere with the task of
raising children. Kids are
young for such a brief period. During that window
of opportunity, they must
be given priority.
Once you’ve done
what you can to lay the
proper foundation, I urge
you to approach your parenting duties with confidence. Anxiety about the
future is risky in itself. It
can make parents tentative and insecure in dealing with their youngsters.
They don’t dare cross
them or deny their wishes
for fear of being hated in
the teen years. Teenagers
pick up those vibes intuitively, which often generates disrespect in return.
Don’t make that mistake.
You have been placed in a
position of authority over
your young children. Lead
them with confidence and
care.
QUESTION: If it is
natural for a toddler to
break all the rules, should
he be disciplined for routine misbehavior?
DR. DOBSON: Toddlers get into trouble most
frequently because of their
natural desire to touch,
bite, taste, smell and break
everything within their
grasp. These are normal
and healthy reactions that
should not be inhibited.
When, then, should they
be subjected to mild discipline? When they openly
defy their parents’ very
clear commands! When he
runs the other way when
called, purposely slams
his milk glass on the floor,
dashes into the street when
being told to stop, screams
Another One Of Those
Laws You Can Use
Q: I rely on e-mail to keep my customers informed. What is the new rule on e-mailing “transactional or relationship
messages”?
A: E-mail now likely to be declared “transactional or relationship messages” rather than violations of the Act include:
1) e-mails sent to facilitate, complete, or confirm registration for a free Internet service;
2) newsletter e-mails issued periodically and that are entirely informational or that mix informational and commercial
content (although entirely commercial emails or those sent unsolicited may violate the Act);
3) e-mails sent to complete an existing, viable, non-terminated negotiation if the negotiation was related to a commercial transaction (although emails attempting to persuade someone to return to negotiations likely will violate the Act);
4) e-mail messages limited to legally required notices (although this determination may be made case by case).
E-mails containing opinion and research surveys also are outside the scope of the Act unless they contain advertising
or promote a company, product, or service.
Q: What happens if a spam-sender continues to send spam after an Internet user complains?
A: Government agencies and Internet service providers may seek money damages (for example, the FTC can seek
fines of up to $16,000 per violation) or criminal prosecution against violators. Violators include those who retransmit commercial e-mails to conceal the origins of spam e-mails. Spammers with multiple violations have been fined hundreds of
millions of dollars and given several years in prison.
Q: What must businesses do to comply with the CAN-SPAM Act?
A: Unless the e-mail recipient has expressly agreed to receive a message or initiated contact with the business, businesses must make sure that commercial emails:
• clearly indicate they are ads;
• have correct header information and accurate subject lines that do not mislead recipients;
• allow recipient to send a reply message or other “Internet-based communication” to opt-out of future e-mails, and
honor this request within 10 days. Also, the “opt-out” information must include the sender’s valid, physical postal address.
Q: Does Ohio have anything like the CAN-SPAM Act?
A: Yes. Ohio has a law against “illegally transmitting multiple commercial electronic mail messages” (effective May
6, 2005) which complements the Federal CAN-SPAM Act. It covers phishing where the e-mail’s origin is misleading. The
Ohio Attorney General may file civil action on violations of both the Ohio statute and the Federal CAN-SPAM Act. For
more information about federal spam law, visit http://www.ftc.gov/spam/. Information about privacy law in Ohio, including spam issues, can be found through http://privacy.ohio.gov/education and http://privacy.ohio.gov/citizens.
Social Security Administration
Q&A
Apply for Medicare & SS
Benefits? Plus - How
Are Benefits Calulated?
Question Do I also apply for Medicare when I
apply for Social Security retirement benefits?
Answer If you begin to receive Social Security
retirement benefits before turning 65, you will automatically be enrolled in Medicare Parts A and B; no
further action is required. However, beginning November 15, 2005, you must enroll separately for the
new Part D prescription drug benefit if you wish to
participate, even if you are already enrolled in Medicare Part A and B.
Question How are Social Security benefits calculated? People keep telling me it’s your top five years
of income, but that seems incorrect to me.
Answer Many retirement plans are based on your
top five years of income, but Social Security is not one
of them. Assuming that you have worked the minimum of 40 quarters (10 years) to qualify for benefits,
Social Security’s benefits are based on your earnings
throughout your work history, up to a maximum of 35
years. If you work longer than 35 years, your benefit
will be based on your top 35 years of income.
and throws a tantrum at
bedtime, or hits his friends.
These behavior patterns
should be discouraged.
Even in these situations,
however, severe punishment is unwarranted. A
firm rap on the fingers or
a few minutes sitting on
a chair will usually convey the same message as
convincingly. Spankings
should be reserved for a
child’s moments of greatest antagonism, usually
occurring after the second,
third or fourth birthdays.
Without
watering
down anything I have
written about discipline, it
should also be understood
that I am a firm believer
in the judicious use of
grace (and humor) in parent-child relationships. In
a world in which children
are often pushed to grow
up too fast, their spirits
can dry out like prunes
beneath the constant gaze
of critical eyes. It is refreshing to see parents
temper their harshness
with a measure of “unmerited favor.” Likewise,
there’s nothing that buoys
every member of a family
quite like laughter and a
lighthearted spirit in the
home.
Dr. Dobson is founder and chairman of the board of the nonprofit
organization Focus on the Family, P.O. Box 444, Colorado
Springs, CO. 80903; or www.
family.org. Questions and answers are excerpted from "The
Complete Marriage and Family Home Reference Guide" and
"Bringing Up Boys," both published by Tyndale House.

The local Springfield-Clark
County, Ohio area for the
Easter weekend through the
first full week of April, 2010
experienced unusually warm
temperatures and stormy conditions. The high temperatures
exceeded 80 degrees on four
of the first 8 dates along with
gusty winds recorded at 48
miles per hour at my weather
station on Saturday evening
the 03rd and a severe thunderstorm on the night of the
06th with winds to 46 miles

weather station. A cold front
moved through the night of
the 07th bringing in chilly
temperatures with highs in the
40s and 50s and lows in the
30s for the end of the week. A
warming trend started on the
weekend.
The National weather Service extended outlook maps
for the local area for the period of April the 14th through
the 21st, 2010 is prediction a
return to above to much above
normal temperatures and near
to below normal precipitation
or rainfall.
The period should begin
on Wednesday and Thursday
on the western side of a high
pressure area bringing in fair
skys, dry conditions, and warm
temperatures with highs in the
70s to around 80 degrees and
lows in the 50s and low 60s.
A low pressure area and its
associated cold front should
move through Thursday night
or Friday with scattered rain
and/or thundershowers. This
should be followed by pleasant early spring conditions
with sunny skies, dry conditions and warm temperatures
for the weekend into the next
Tuesday. Another cold front
should then move through the
area the next Wednesday with
more scattered rain and/or
thundershowers.
My weather records for
the period of April the 14th
through the 21st, 1969 through
2009 indicates a high temperature of a balmy 88 degrees

18th, 2002. The lowest temperature was a chilly 24 degrees recorded April the 19th,
