A Letter From Your Board of Trustees
Spring is in full bloom and it is time to get out and enjoy your
Plain Township Parks!
Our sports and ball fields are open and available for booking. The restrooms at
Alpine and Veteran’s Parks are also open for the season. Shelters and the
Diamond Indoor Sports Complex’s Community Room are filling up fast with
reservations. We have an article inside about how you can make use of our
website to look up park reservations and available dates. The Board has
continued to look forward and assess short term and long term needs for all of
our departments and the Parks Department is no exception. All three parks are
receiving renovations and some incredible new additions.
The Indoor Sports Complex at Diamond Park has received a much needed
facelift in the past few months. The indoor turf was replaced at the end of
October. Safer, softer, more durable turf, designed specifically for indoor sports
has been installed. At the turn of the new year, new acrylic glass was installed to
replace the original that was 35 years old. Also, new netting encompassing the
entire field to protect from an errant ball. Finally, a new swing set was installed
on the southeast end of the facility, directly behind the indoor sports complex.
The bocce courts were removed and placed at Alpine Park and sets of bocce
balls are available for rent at Township Hall. Also, you’ll notice the absence of
the playground equipment. Unfortunately, the equipment was well over 20 years
old and had become unsafe to use. We have applied for the 2016 Ohio
Department of Natural Resources Nature Works grant, through the Office of Real
Estate, to replace that equipment with an updated playground for all ages and
abilities. Another improvement, is the newly redone tennis courts for our
residents to enjoy. Finally, in May, we installed new high definition security
cameras to help stop vandalism at Alpine Park.
Speaking of cameras, the same high definition cameras were installed at
Veteran’s Park for the same reasons. The Disc Golf Course will be moving some
holes to accommodate for the new Veteran’s Memorial Monument and the Blue
Star Mothers Marker, as the year unfolds. Also, at Veteran’s Park, growth
blankets were laid down this Spring to rejuvenate the turf to be ready for the
season, with amazing results!
Take time to enjoy your Plain Township Parks and all the amenities that
come with them. And, make your Summer a great one, right here at home!

E-Waste Recycling
Due to ongoing technological advancements, many electronic products become obsolete within a
very short period of time, creating a large surplus of unwanted electronic products or “E-waste.”
Disposing of E-waste in landfills has the potential to cause severe human and environmental
health impacts. Plain Township will be accepting E-waste on Saturday, July 16th and Saturday
October 29th from 8:00am-4:00pm at the Plain Township Hall, located at 2600 Easton St NE.
Canton, Ohio. This event is being hosted by Plain Township and Ecycle Solutions of Ohio is

Department training for water
and ice rescues. The Fire
Department has a rescue boat
and cold
water rescue
suits to
respond to
all types of
water and
ice
emergencies.
We have been in the process of updating our website to make it
interactive. Updates include, pictures and biographies of our Fire
Administrative staff and an online form to get your child’s car
seat inspected by one of our technicians. In addition, you can
obtain information on CPR and a registration form if you’d like to
take a CPR course. More changes are coming!
We have also started a Facebook page. We can be found at
Plain Township Fire & Rescue-Stark County, Ohio. We are
using Facebook as a way to get safety messages out, as well as
keeping the public informed about what
the Plain Township Fire Department
does. We will try and keep the public
informed if there are road closures or
fire incidents happening around the
township so you can avoid those areas.
There are several Plain Township Fire
Departments on Facebook and to make
sure that you are liking the right page,

New Venues to Open in Plain Township
A new look is coming to the northeast corner of Everhard Road and Whipple Avenue in Plain
Township! The redevelopment of an existing shopping center has taken underway and will be
known as “The Venue at Belden Village- Retail Center Development”
This will be a new upscale, architecturally designed shopping center. Some of the stores
include: EARTH FARE, HOMEGOODS, STEIN MART and HH Gregg. There will also be
10,000 square feet of restaurant space, a patio and a small shop retail space. This will be very
exciting for our residents and will bring in jobs and more income to our Township. The opening
date is not set yet, but plans are for the stores to start opening this Fall.
Be a Good Neighbor
The Zoning Department receives numerous complaints each year regarding residential,
commercial and industrial properties. The most frequent residential zoning violates involve high
grass and weeds, the parking of junk motor vehicles and the storage of trash and
debris on a property.
Maintain the integrity of your neighborhood by keeping the following in mind:
 Mow your grass on a regular basis.
 Do not park wrecked, dismantled and/or unlicensed vehicles on your
property, unless stored within a garage.
 Keep your exterior property clean of trash and debris.
 Do not park commercial vehicles on your property.
Complaint Procedure
The Zoning Department has the following policy
regarding the filing and investigation of
complaints for zoning violations or nuisance
conditions which affect public health and/or
safety;

Complaints will be taken in person, in writing
or by telephone.
 Complaints that are filed with an identifiable
complainant will be immediately prioritized
and dealt with in a timely manner.
 Anonymous complaints, will only be
investigated when all regular scheduled work
has been completed and there is additional
time within the department.
 To file a complaint, the grass/weeds must be
over 8 inches tall and cover 50% or more of the
land.

2016 Paving & Road Repair Project
At the time of print, the list of this year’s roads to be paved is not complete, due to
the bidding process. The list will be posted on Plain Township’s website. as
soon as possible.
Reminder: When the roads are posted, ‘Temporary No Parking’ for the paving
process, please do not park on them.
It slows down the paving process and it is possible that your vehicle will be
towed at your expense.
Culvert Repair & Installation
If there is any culvert repair, replacement or new installation done in the right-of-way on your
property, the Plain Township Road Crew will complete the grading and landscaping,
including, seed, fertilizer and straw. We ask, when possible, for the resident to water the area
for the first 2 weeks, as we are not able to. Thank you for your cooperation in this matter.
Portable Basketball Hoops
Portable basketball hoops have been very popular throughout the
Township over the last couple of years. Those put in the right-of-way, can
and already have caused problems. According to O.R.C. Section 3767.15,
no obstruction can be placed in the right-of-way. As a result, the
Trustees are asking that residents be mindful of where they place their
portable basketball hoops.
Required Permits
Permits can be obtained at the Road Department: 6300 Heminger Ave.
Monday– Friday from 7:00am-3:30pm
Road Opening Permits
A permit is required for any excavation in
the township’s right-of-way. The Plain
Township Project Inspector and or Plain
Township Highway Foreman need to be
notified before ANY excavation takes place.
The fee for this permit is $50.00
Driveway Permits
A permit is required for new construction or
any other improvements you make to your
existing driveway. This permit gives you
instructions for paving and apron
requirements.
The fee for this permit is $10.00.
Prevent Drainage Problems
Please remember not to rake leaves, grass clippings or other debris into storm sewers, ditches and
streets. Keeping storm sewers and ditches clean, will help reduce drainage problems. Your
cooperation with such is truly appreciated.
Also, note that it is illegal to dump oil, antifreeze, herbicides, pesticides or other hazardous
products into ditches, culverts or catch basins. All violators will be prosecuted.
If you see dumping taking place, please report it to the Stark County Health Department
at 330-493-9904.
