Annual Easter Eggstravaganza
An Invitation From Your Trustees
The Plain Township Board of Trustees would like to extend an
invitation to all, to join us, on Saturday, March 19th for the
9th Annual Easter Eggstravaganza.
The event will be hosted from 12:00-2:30pm for ages 0-10, with the
egg hunt starting promptly at 1:00pm. Diamond Community Park
is located at the corner of Diamond and Middlebranch at
2782 Diamond Street NE, Canton, Ohio 44721.
Children will be able to collect eggs in an age appropriate section of
the park. As a result, four quadrants will be set up just west of the
soccer ball patio, by age range; 0-4 years, 5-6 years, 7-8 years, and
9-10 years. We ask that for the sake of all, each child retrieves 4
eggs the first time through, so that everyone walks away with some
goodies. After that, all children will be allowed to grab any extras
still laying on the field. Once retrieved, enjoy the candy, but please
RECYCLE the plastic eggs by placing them in the receptacle by the
field, so that they can be utilized again next year.
Families are also encouraged to visit and have their pictures taken
with the Easter Bunny, as well as take part in the CompuKids
identification program, hosted by the Stark County Sheriff’s Office.
Each child that participates, will walk away with a CD complete
with the information gathered, at no cost! Children will also be able
to enjoy a cookie and a glass of punch while on site.
Join us at Diamond Community Park for an Egg-celent time for kids
and their families! We hope you’ll hop on down and join us!
Come see why Plain Township is an excellent place to live,
work, worship, and play.

Fire Department
(330) 492-4089
Recreational Camp Fires
With spring time right around the corner, the Fire Department would like to remind
residents of some outdoor safety tips. When having a recreational camp fire, it
is important to remember that the fire cannot be bigger than three feet in
diameter and no more than two feet in height. Only clean, dry wood is to be
used and no burning of trash or debris is permitted. The fire should also be at
least 25 feet from any structure. Please register your recreational camp fire
at plaintownsip.com or by calling the Fire Department at 330-492-4089
from 8:00am-4:30pm Monday thru Friday and at least 24 hours before
having the fire. Also, recreational camp fires are not permitted between the
hours of 6:00am-6:00pm in the months of March, April, May, October and November.
Tents
If you’re thinking of using a tent for an event at a church, park or other business in the
township, here are a few things to consider; the Fire Department requires that any tent up
to 399 square feet be reported to the Fire Department when it is going to be used. If a
tent is 400 square feet or larger, the tent will need a permit and an inspection before use
and the Fire Department will need to see a certificate of flammability. The Fire
Department issues the permit and also does the inspection. Permits are
good for 180 days and are only good for the tent that the permit is being
issued for and for the company that installs the tent. The tent is required
to be at least 20 feet from all structures, have no smoking signs posted
and a fire extinguisher inside such. No cooking is permitted
under the tent. No open flame or heat source shall be within 20 feet of the
tent. If the tent is going to seat 50 or more people, a floor plan will have to
be submitted to the Fire Department for review. The floor plan will have to show table
locations and means of egress. For any questions regarding the use of tents, please
contact the Fire Department at 330-492-4089.
CPR Classes
The Fire Department will offer HEARTSAVER CPR classes for adults, children and infants.
Dates of the classes are June 11th and September 3rd of 2016. All class times will
start at 9:00am and conclude approximately at 12;30pm. The CPR classes follow the
American Heart Association standards. If you live in Plain Township or work for a Plain
Township business, there is no cost. The cost for non township residents is $20.00. If you
have a group or business in Plain Township, we can set up a separate date for you. We
also offer a Health Care Provider check-off service. If you have
completed the online course from American heart association, call for
dates. You must call and register for the class at 330-492-4089. We
need a minimum of 6 people to hold a class.
For more information call 330-492-4089 or email [email protected].

Safety City
The Fire Department, along with the Stark County Sheriff’s Office and Plain Local
Schools, will be hosting its annual “Safety City” the week of June 13 th thru the 17th
from 9:00am to 11:15am at Warstler Elementary, 2500 Schneider Street NE for
children entering Kindergarten in the Plain Local School
District in the fall of 2016.
The school district will have registration forms available.
Registration forms will also be available at the Central Fire
Station located across the street from GlenOak High School
Monday thru Friday from 8:00am-4:30pm. The weeklong
event will cover several topics, including pedestrian safety,
bicycle safety, fire safety, playground safety and more. We will also be asking for student
volunteers to help with the program. Any Plain Local students that are in grades 8-12,
can apply to be a volunteer. Students at the high school level (9-12) can use the
volunteer hours for NHS or the Award of Merit. This includes any student who will be
entering the 9th grade in the fall. All students who participate, will receive a Citizenship
Award. Information to be a volunteer will be handed out at GlenOak High School and
OakWood Middle School in March. This has proven to be a great event and we hope that
your future GlenOak Eagle or Eagles can attend!
Any questions or concerns please feel free to contact Fire Secretary, Elizabeth
Diana or Fire Inspector, Scott Kelly at the Fire Department 330-492-4089.
Renter’s
Insurance
The Fire Department encourages
residents that rent homes or
apartments to consider getting
renter’s insurance. Statistics show
that 9 out of 10 renters DO NOT have
insurance. Renter’s insurance is
relatively inexpensive, as the average
annual premiums range anywhere
from $130 to $150 for $20,000 of
coverage and typically includes
personal liability. So, if you rent or
are thinking of
renting,
consider
getting
renter’s
insurance!

Keeping Water Clean Throughout Stark County
This year’s theme for our clean water mascot Clawd is “Use the force against stormwater
pollution.” There are many ways to combat stormwater pollution. Remember, when it rains,
it drains. Stormwater can pick up dirt, oil, grease, pesticide, chemicals, and other
pollutants as it travels. It then dumps it into our lakes, rivers and streams. Stormwater
runoff does not flow into the sewer and to the wastewater treatment plant for clean up. So,
how can we use the “force” to stop this and keep our water clean? Here are some easy tips!
 Never, ever, dump anything into your storm drain.
 Not even leaves or grass clippings. Storm drains lead directly
into our water sources. Instead, you can use Plain Township’s
yard waste drop off facilities.
 Use fertilizers sparingly and sweep driveways, sidewalks and
roads instead of using your hose.
 Direct downspouts away from paved sources and install a
rain barrel to collect water and reuse the water for your garden or
flowers.
 Vegetate bare spots in your yard.
 Take your car to the carwash instead of washing it in your
driveway. By doing so, the soap and cleaners won’t end up in our
waterways.
These are just a few ways that you can become Stormtroopers!
Road Department

Spring Maintenance
The road crew will be sweeping all township streets beginning the second week of March,
weather permitting. Yard repairs from snow plow damage, will begin in early April, (also
weather permitting) in the order that the requests were received. Asphalt curb repair will
be done during the summer.
If you see a pot hole on a township road, please call the Plain Township Road
Department at 330-492-3423.
Repairs will be made as soon as we are aware of the obstruction.

Driveway Permits
A permit is required for new construction or
any other improvements you make to your
existing driveway. This permit gives you
instructions for paving and apron
requirements.
The fee for this permit is $10.00.
Prevent Drainage Problems
You can help prevent drainage problems by remembering not to blow or rake leaves, grass
clippings or other debris into the storm sewers, ditches and streets. Doing so, will help to
reduce drainage and flooding problems during heavy rain falls.
Please also remember that it is illegal to dump oil, antifreeze, herbicides, pesticides, or
other hazardous products into ditches, culverts, or catch basins. Doing such is in
violation of ORC 3767.17 and all violators will be prosecuted!
If you see dumping taking place, please report it to the Stark County Health
Department by calling 330-493-9904.
